If you like your Port try the below website (it is not one of those Wine Club Style websites!). Shipping is around 14 Euro (I'm N.Ireland) up to 6 bottles. Prices start at 5.45 Euro for a 750ml bottle. https://www.portugalvineyards.com/en/

However its always been £8. and has been the last 3 years as I buy before every xmas. So the whole £16 is a bit of a scam

It's a lovely port but £8 seems to be the normal price for this most of the time. Goes up to the £16 long enough for them to quote a half price saving .....

5 Dec 161#40
Maybe I am missing something but this does'nt seem worth anywhere near £16 for 50cl - seems well overpriced - it does not mention a specific vintage. I woud have thought that this is only worth around £6 anyway.
Instead I would go for something like Graham's late bottled vintage Port 2011 (75cl) for £9.00 @ Asda

OK, you have convinced me. I will buy some next time I am in M & S!

5 Dec 162#38
I agree with this as there's no way a bottle of "special reserve" Port is worth £16 a bottle, and even at £8 it still on the dear side. LBV is currently available at less than this in the Supermarkets as you have pointed out,and is a much better buy, both in taste and in value.

4 Dec 16#9
OK perhaps I need some advice. I usually only buy lbv port is this of a similar vintage?
cecilmcroberts to tighty
4 Dec 16#11
It's like anything taste is subjective. Personally I've had 3-4 Euro bottles in Portugal that tasted nicer than most of the stuff we buy here and the M&S one but that's my palate yours and everyone's else off course will be different.

4 Dec 161#13
Never mind the "vintage" name, port of this price range is either ruby or LBV or a better ruby. This M&S one is a better ruby (ball park about same price is a LBV). So see my note above and you can get a better deal than this.

5 Dec 16#37
I am a casual drinker, there are these categories, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_wine I think this M&S one is similar to LBV in character and taste (more importantly pricing) though I have never tried it as there are so many better deals in LBVs and premium ruby (which this Special Reserve M&S is) in the supermarkets now. This M&S one is unique in the sense that it is 50 cl (rather than 75cl) at £6 a bottle for 12 bottles (equivalent to £9 for 75cl) , and has a decanter looking bottle, means you are better off £/L drinking the others on promotion now,see my post #8.

Yeah it's because it's their special decanter port...it's very popular tho....sell tonnes of it when it's half price  roll on Xmas!

OK, thanks. I don't really buy port that often, but £16 sounds a lot for half a litre.

5 Dec 16#34
It's too dry for a port in my opinion. I know it looks like a good price but I think the price is a bit deceptive because of the size of bottle.
You'd be better off buying a bottle of Cockburn's Special Reserve. Even in Waitrose it works out cheaper than this stuff.

It's very nice and smooth. But "1/2 price" is a joke. It's been that price for week, they only stock it the rest of the year so it can be 'half price' for Christmas. £8 is an alright price for it.
Normally if I order at the weekend they arrive by the following Friday or Saturday with DPD (might be quicker for mainland as I'm N.Ireland).

I had done some sums, not bought any from portugalvineyards as yet as I found it easier to make use of Sainsbury's and Tesco's 25% off for 6 bottles since they sent me vouchers off like Tesco sent me £8 for £40 spend and Sainsburys £2 for £20 spend.

Many thanks, had a quick look. Really impressed with the selection they have. Definitely going to order some, would be nice if they get here before Christmas. What are the delivery times like from your experience with ordering?

Bought 6 of these as Xmas gifts and with the 25% off 6 or more it worked out as £6 per bottle.
They did also have larger port bottles there for £9 each which with the 25% off would have worked out at £6.75 a bottle.
That is probably a better deal for better port at a better price per ml but as it was a gift these bottles looked better.
Anyway £6 a bottle of decent port is a good deal even if they are never £16.

I saw this today, but couldn't ascertain whether it's suitable for vegans, as that's who I would be thinking of buying it for, a vegan friend. It is suitable for vegetarians >
Nope its not. Here's some snippets regarding Ports for Vegans.
Regarding your question about the Port wines suitable for a Vegan diet we are pleased to introduce you to a portfolio of wines suitable for consumption by Vegans and Vegetarians, whose price quality ratio is very satisfactory and that You will surely appreciate.
"You can try and appreciate:
* Vintage Ports from all our brands: Graham’s, Dow’s, Cockburn’s, Warre’s, Smith Woodhouse and Quinta do Vesúvio
* Single Quinta Vintage Ports
** Graham’s - Quinta dos Malvedos
** Dow’s - Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira and Quinta do Bomfim
** Warre’s - Quinta da Cavadinha
** Cockburn’s - Quinta dos Canais
** Smith Woodhouse - Madalena
* Crusted Ports – Graham’s and Dow’s
* Warre’s and Smith Woodhouse – Bottled Matured LBV Port (Late Bottled Vintage Port)"
We do make some Port for vegans and some that are for vegetarians. Much of the Marks and Spencer is for vegetarian in that they use egg albumem rather than pig gelatin. At the moment the M&S port range only has vintage, Late Bottled vintage and Pink for vegans.
For Taylor, Fonseca and Croft all our LBV's, vintages, 30 and 40 year old tawnies are suitable for vegans. The Croft Pink is not vegan but vegetarian.

Tried a bottle of this a couple of weeks ago and, I have to say, not impressed. It's an average, run-of-the-mill port. Not a patch on the Taylor's First Estate Reserve that I'm working my way through now (£8 at Asda)

Ohh certainly it is but I do enjoy having the access to the far bigger range and stuff you simply cannot buy here. It's really never worth buying unless you are getting 6 bottles at once. But always do look forward to trying the new stuff and some of the bottles they do in nice presentation cases are good value to what you would pay here and sometimes nice for giving present of something you can't buy here or simply for memories of those night on holidays when you had something in Portugal! Some of the wine is excellent off course also just nice for something completely different. I would order mixed from Port to wine maybe once every 3-4 months just for something different, though always my Christmas order for presents for people. Have tried other similar sites but not managed to find anyone cheaper than that one so far. It was actually an off sales in Portugal that recommended the website to myself (well a member of staff who said "shhh don't use our delivery service to home use this site it's far cheaper" lol)

Which is comparable to Tesco's 10 year tawny, got this yesterday with 25% off for a mixed 6-bottles, so £8 which as you said is a way better than this M&S and cheaper too as 10 year tawny is 75cl.

It's very good and I was tempted the other week.
It's only 50cl (as above) and I'd rather have a litre of whisky for £15 (value wise), plus plenty of Tesco and Waitrose coupons going around (£6 off £30, £4 off £30 etc, etc), which reduces the cost.
But, if I get a bottle for Xmas, I won't be disappointed.
