Can I clarify - can you use the wheel without the pedals ie control the throttle/brake on the wheel itself? I ask because considering it for someone who's paraplegic so can't use the pedals

Got the PS3 compatible version back in the day for gt5 and gt6. Good wheel and near identical to this but Logitech won't make it PS4 compatible. No more Logitech for me if they don't add support for their premium products.

If it's a G27 it's 6 years old and the G25 is 10 years old. How long should companies support tech? It's also not Logitechs fault that Sony require a chip in the device.

Bargain price. I never thought the price would reduce inline with what it was when they had it for £99 a while back but it's technically even cheaper now with the gearstick being worth around £40 so the wheel only really comes in at about £90. Cheers OP. Now to wait for a cheap playseat!
ecsrobin to jiraiya
10 Dec 16 #11
I got the wheel when it was £99 and the stick is often £25 (both from currys) so I paid £124 for my setup. I doubt they will ever be this cheap again though so the current price is a steal.

I've been looking into Playseats as opposed to stands. Not sure if that's what you'd be interested in. But anyway, the best deal I could find on a Playseat was with Argos at the moment for roughly £225 providing Topcashback pays up, plus you'd get a £10 voucher spending over £100. Link Here

By the time the graphics have been downgraded significantly so the underpowered PS4 can handle PSVR, any amount of added realism might make the difference.

Hate when these come up! 3 weeks ago the currys deal was £129 for wheel and pedals and £159 for wheel pedals and shifter, I decided £129 was enough to spend...

Now for the same price I paid you get the shifter anyway lol! Not that my deal was bad but still sat here feeling bitter about it :-(

I've had both the G29 and the G920 (used on PC) and I prefer the G29 as it has the dial and change lights (lights don't work in all games tho)

Now ordered another G29 + gearstick because I was missing the gearstick and never know when I need another wheel as I have couple of gaming PC's (Handy when a mate comes over for some LAN racing

I do think the G920 is a better looking wheel tho. the grey details arn't so bright/blam as the blue.

Why cant they do one that works with ps4 and xbox one! I really an tempted so i can try driveclub VR with it. Plus GT 7 on the way. But also then could use for Forza, there not cheap accessories, but really. They expect us to buy both, im sure its simple enough for them to get them to work on both consoles.

10 Dec 16 #67
They can't "just make it compatible", it's a licensing issue. They'd have to pay a license for every old PS3 version that had been sold on the off chance it might be used in a PS4. It's economically not viable.

That chip was one big lie from Logitech, how on earth all old fanatec wheels work on ps4? That is just Logitech being lazy and greedy.

I had DFGT wheel and had to sell it because Logitech dropped support for it, I will never buy any of their products again

Awwwwww boohoo. Logitech will be crying!

Their products are second to none. Pay a lot, get a quality product, pay little, get a product you expect at that price.

All of my peripherals are logitech and none have broken - ever.

I've also had the DFGT and currently have the G27 and G29. All have never broken.

Your experience speaks for no-one.

BestHotDeals
10 Dec 16 2 #89
The best one is most certainly the G29, simply because nearly all Xbox exclusives are now coming to PC, so with the G29, you'll be able to play all PS4 exclusive racing games, alongside both PC and Xbox One games with just one wheel.

Haircut_100
10 Dec 16 #93
Well the excuse is used that PS3 era peripherals are unable to work with the PS4 because if this supposed 'security chip', but how is it then that everyone can use their old PS3 era guitar and drum controllers on the PS4 Rock Band without issue? They don't have a security chip but yet they plug in and play just fine. I suspect that the real reason Logitech PS3 wheels are unable to be used with the PS4 is that Sony signed a big fat deal with the competing company Thrustmaster for them to produce the official PS4 compatible wheels, and if Sony just allowed everyone to carry on using their wheels then no-one would go out and buy a shiny new Thrustmaster one. You know, protecting their own interests and all that...

Amazing price for this. Got one on the black friday deal. A force feedback wheel makes such a difference. So much fun!
If you want it for PC get a g29 as it has an extra dial and buttons. Also the G29 seems to be way more popular if you need a fix down the road)

It absolutely is Sony's doing. They prevent compatibility. This is not new behaviour for them. Adding support for the wheel is a simple driver.
The G27 is still supported on PC. I think the G25 still is as well.

I've got this wheel and play it on the xbox one. It's not as good as the G27, it's too plastic feeling but works fantastically.
I've only played F1 2015 and 2016 so far with it and it's faultless. peddles need modification if you don't have a fixed seat. This is a 5 minute jobbie and improves it so much.

Yes you can, you can use the paddles for accelerate and brake and the gearstick for gears, I used my G25 like this when my pedals packed up, it's tricky but doable and you can use auto gears so you don't really have to use the stick.

If you are spending over £100 on a steering wheel generally speaking you are looking for an immersive experience. To get this most immersive and realistic experience you need to have the gear stick, as a lot of cars have a manual gearbox with a gearstick. The pedals for the wheel also have a clutch, that's the one on the left if you don't know, and most cars that have this, excluding some race cars, have a gear stick to go along side this. Meaning that the manufacturer of the wheel is obviously seeing this has a suitable addition to the wheel! When it comes to the 'space' argument that you Will surely come back with, if you have space to mount this wheel, you have the the extra 6 or so inches along side this for the gearstick. Hope this clarifies my argument.

The problem with making the driving experience too realistic is the 2d screen becomes the weak point. These games are just as exhilarating with a basic wheel, unless you're going for a near seamless 40"+ 3 x screen set-up, even then I'll wait for VR before taking this too seriously.

Dirt rally is a game you need to play on a wheel.
T2000Bill
10 Dec 16 #167
The gearstick is fine for H shift cars but pretty useless for any others, most cars are sequential so better with the paddles, Logitech in their infinite wisdom decided to remove the switch for sequential after the G25, the shifter is fine for classics but not really needed in my opinion, there is a mod that you can do on them to make it sequential though but it requires being taken apart.

I have Thrustmaster with the TH8RS and use it sequential, only about 10 percent of cars use a H shifter so I never use the H plate.

Don't forget to try out LFS on the PC.

https://www.lfs.net/static/pics/newspic4c.jpg

Live for Speed is a serious racing simulator. No arcade modes, no steering aids - YOU have to do the driving.

The forces affecting the car's motion are simulated individually at each wheel. We recommend the use of a steering wheel, because although you can use the keyboard and/or mouse, a wheel and pedals provide a lot more accuracy. The force feedback sent to the steering wheel is calculated directly from the forces, with no canned effects. This allows you to feel what is happening at the contact patch between your tyres and the road, helping you to get closer to the limit without exceeding it too much!

When you have a lot of speed and you approach a corner, you must brake well in advance or you will end up somewhere you don't want to be! You need to find the best way through any sequence of bends by going through them many times. There's always more to learn.

Thanks for the post. My G25 has been sitting there unused for a few years now since the PS4 came out... The amount of great racing games now almost demand a replacement. Project Cars is a great game even with a controller but literally just bought Assetto Corsa in the US PSN sale and it's already clear you need a wheel to get the most from it.

Then after that there's F1 2016, DIRT Rally and the new Gran Turismo coming out next year so a great time to get a wheel.

10 Dec 16 1 #178
It is annoying but on the flip side Logitech have made a good quality product that is far cheaper than the decent alternatives like the Fanatec, Thrustmaster etc.

Testament to the great value they offer is that I've just seen a G25 go for £92 on Ebay. So about £60 (£130-£70) for an upgrade after Ebay fees is very reasonable.

Good price, so voted hot. However, these are pretty rubbish wheels as Logitech only created them because the G25/G27 weren't compatible with current gen consoles. They are essentially same wheels in sheep's clothing. I would recommed going for the Thrustmaster T150 for PS4 of Thrustmaster TMX for Xbox One that utilise some of the tech in their top range T300 and T500 wheels and are genuinely a step forward in wheel controller development. You can also upgrade the pedals to more professional Thrustmast T3PA in future for £70 odd too. Cheaper and way better wheels. That's not just my opinion either. Look up reviews on YouTube from the like of Inside Sim Racing.

Another Christmas present sorted

I was looking at the thrust master TX or 300, and while I admit they are superior feedback with the brushless there just seems to be too many issues with reliability AND support which was stopping me hitting the buy button on one (thinking about the pain if something goes wrong and having my lad whinging at me) and at £300+ to get a three pedal setup plus no gearstick - no brainer really

Thanks and heat added

A long shot, but does anyone know if this would work on a Mac running Parallels (so effectively a Windows machine)? Did I ever say that the clutch wouldn't work without a gearstick, if you can find a quote from me stating that I'll take everything I said back! And as for the people that 'hate' me, you were the one that made this personal, not me! And by the way if you are basing my age on that photograph I can tell you that it was taken about 10 years ago. Furthermore I think you are the one saying that you are the best at racing sims, as you have apparently spent 30 years playing them, what racing sims they are I don't know, as far as I am aware there weren't any racing sims hat long ago? Anyhow this will be the last time I respond to you, as I honestly have lost interest in this now.

And if I'm the one with a brain that has never been used how come on the 2nd to last line of your last response you should have written you instead of 'your', bit hypercritical you think, and in the first paragraph you should have used I'm or I am instead of 'Im'.
bigdeal66
11 Dec 16 #212
Listen you buffoon, you have nothing to say that's of any interest or beneficial on this post or indeed looking at the whole website looking at your profile, give it a rest .

Here is a screen shot, hope it helps,I mentioned the clutch can be used/works on pcars without the gearstick and it does,if you dint know what it does it disconnects drive from the engine to the transmission which is handy for standing starts.hope that helps,it certainly does not help you calling people morons for not using one.

Forza Motorsport isn't great these days imo. It feels off compare to the examples I'm about to give. Although the Forza Horizon series does seem to be excellent. So I'd recommend one but not the other.

Project Cars - To me the successor to Gran Turismo. Loads of tracks, massive grids (up to 43 cars), great sounds and a decent amount of cars. I say decent because for racing cars it's amazing but road cars are certainly lacking although it does have some of the important ones like the P1 and McLaren F1.

Assetto Corsa - Just bought this recently and although it's not as good as Project Cars in terms of tracks and cars what it does have is bloody good. In terms of tracks it's a bit lacking but the small amount of cars it has are mainly gems. It's got the big three P1, La Ferrari, Porsche 918 and cars that make a car fan like myself almost drool. Lotus 98T, Lotus 25, Ferrari 312T, Porsche 917/30 etc etc...

After that although I haven't got them yet there's F1 2016 and DIRT rally both from British developers Codemasters which both look worth a try.

I looked at these myself, to use a PS3 wheel on PS4. It makes the wheel emulate a joypad, so there is less precision in steering, and the force feedback is faked from the joypad vibration input. I decided it was useless, and bought a new wheel instead.

I didn't have the option to buy it for home delivery. Could only reserve and collect.
I reserved successfully - and got the confirmation email. But for some reason, I mistakenly assumed that I would receive a further confirmation when it was ready for pickup.

Fast forward to 2 days later - haven't received anything and actually read the email this time. Turns out the reservation was available for pickup immediately - and expired after the first day! :disappointed:

This is poor practice for Currys - they should put on their emails - end of the next day, or even putting down the date it expires - well and truly peeved now :disappointed:

Currys should not use the word next working day when they mean next day (which has two different definitions) - I wonder how many people who had the correct understanding and purchased anyway - it is a form of dishonest enticement by not making it perfectly clear - they should be putting the date on your confirmation email of when the offer expires - Argos do and we all know what their IT systems are like

I have same poor experience as well. I reserved the order on Saturday evening and then phoned the consumer services on Sunday to ask if it is possible to collect the item on Monday, or I was happy to pay for the item immediately. I was advised that I had to pay in the store and could collect the order on Monday with the offer price. I went to the store on Monday but was told my reservation had expired!

Really bad impression for Currys now…

13 Dec 16 1 #247
I have actually gone through the reserve process again to see what comes up and the wording shown is (this was at 10pm last night)

Your items will be ready on Tuesday 13th December 2016 from 09:00 until the end of the next working day

Is it me as that is saying you have 2 days to collect anyway as a minimum? The same wording would have appeared doing the reservation on Saturday night, and with that wording a reservation made on a Friday night should still be available for collection on Monday as well.

I have logged a case with the help desk (whatever use that will be) and if anybody wants the reference to quote ping us a message and I will pass it on - I am also sending a letter (recorded) and will copy it to the CEO's office

I didn't say it above but I was able to negotiate a £20 discount so still purchased so I am down £60 on this and not £80 but it is also proof that I did go to store and purchase said item

The need to get this misunderstanding sorted out for their own benefit really - as I said, I am closing the business account now with PCW as at this time I don't really want them to benefit from my custom D: and other people/customers will also feel similarly.

Basically I ordered one online was OOS, so went to store and bought it and cancelled the online order. They then didn't refund my online order and delivered it so now have 2.

Gonna return it into a store Saturday unless someone wants to take me up on it

I ordered the Omega, it looks way sturdier. 5% off with code I posted earlier too.

I went for the wheel stand pro... for the ease of putting it away and adjusting for different people. And the space...

It hasn't arrived yet, I was waiting for stock to order order it from the uk site, but then ordered via Amazon yesterday. All reviews are positive so I'm hoping it will be fine though I still wouldn't go for the GT purely because of the number of knobs to turn! Next would be the playseat challenge, but then I didn't like the idea of the velcro's so I was left with little choice!

Was debating on getting this but decided against it, regretting it big time!

Hoping a similar offer pops up on the g29 again soon!

Well, Currys contacted me today and processed my refund - they said that it would hit my bank in 5-7 working days - I asked if that was normal working days or Currys working days - mike drop

16 Dec 16 #266
Update:

So I sent an email to Currys customer services.

And then got the following reply today:

I've replied and provided my phone number so that they can call. But it's not looking positive so far.

Any advice?

Get it escalated to the management team - quote my reference if you want (I will PM it to you shortly) - also, on the website when ordering it would have stated your reservation will be ready (at a time in the morning) and will be available until the end of the next working day - now I read that as two days - just repeat (calmly) that their process is inconsistent throughout and is at best confusing - you stated correctly the government legislation, and that "working day" has legal definition so incidents like this where the term can meany many things to different people have a legal reference

Also, state that they should say clearly the date (and time) that the reservation expires - Argos do

The advantage that I have is that I did purchase and could prove loss - although I was never asked to provide proof of my purchase - just my reservation number

Did you go for the gearshifter v1 or v2? I wonder what is better for couch racing?

v2. That's what's advised for couch racing.

Hi folks,
So as an update to my attempt to buy this set...
I managed to find somebody on the online chat / help on the Currys support desk to open a ticket for me due to the store only reserving the gear shifter.
The resolution was that I put the product on hold at a store closer to me and pay the full price of £209.99 and I'll get a £80 refund on my purchase.
So that's what I've done...
I haven't opened it yet, I'm looking at buying a GT Omega for it and a driving game... but which one!?

Thank you folks on here for suggesting I follow up on this.

Didn't get a further reply to my email so I called them up. The rep repeated the same thing to me about Sunday being a working day for Currys. I pushed the point - and eventually he said he would send an email to the manager of the store and CC the area manager - requesting them to honour the original price. I was told I would get a call back, but haven't heard anything back. Just called again, and the rep said he would get the store on the line and then connect me through to the call. Just hope I don't end up hearing the same line about Sunday being a working day again.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I've been absolutely delighted with my G29, using it with my PS3, and I've practically had to fight the kids to get a go.. and that's only having Gran Turismo 6 or Burnout Paradise to play!
I found a copy of Dirt3 - Complete, on ebay, seems to be in quite short supply.
If I'd know how much better the games are, I'd have bought one last year and be willing to pay the £160 instead of this bargainous £130 price!

Next up is to get a stand - the wife wants her ironing board back. Luckily ours is a quite sturdy metal one, but even then does flex a bit when the driving gets rough.
I am hoping that these people http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/riceesproducts resume making and selling them, they stopped before Xmas :-(

After using this for a few weeks, this thing is awesome. Kids won't let me have a go :disappointed: I highly recommend Assetto Corsa, the graphics aren't as sparkling as Project Cars but it has better physics, also its a blast playing online :sunglasses:
