I have with a fine tooth comb. According to them UHD is only available with box sets and Sky sport neither are part of the original package which LG are offering. Hence my comment you need to upgrade the package.

Peak brightness is a bit of a misnomer given the eye can't actually take that much brightness for too long. Moreover OLED has that huge contrast ratio which is much more attractive (and easier to watch). My 1080p OLED is a league above my 4K LED in picture quality.

Even though OLED screens are good, they're not really bright enough if HDR is your thing especially when spending this sort of money.

hmmm but oled 4k are 4k Ultra HD Premium which have yo meet strict brightness guidance ect so dont know how they cant be bright

The ability to isolate Bright and dark parts of the image especially seen in HRD contents is very important when evaluating image quality
not that hot deal tv not 4k might as well spend £60 more at currys and get a 4k oled newer model

Not a great del for current members. You still need to pay for sky Q installation yourself and all you get is 12 months multiroom subscription. AND you can't even watch ultraHD on the mini boxes anyway.

You can't watch UHD on Sky anyway with the 'free' LG package, you need to upgrade the package and so pay extra for access to UHD.
Great TV though bought one about three week ago.

Demo'd this screen next to one of Sony's current range and for sure neither had been optimised, but the Sony looked a fair bit better. Expected to be blown away, was disappointed. I'll stick to Panasonic Plasma for now.

You should have fiddled with the settings, get them right and this lg screen is amazing. It's getting close to the price point where I'm tempted to replace my F8000 in the living room.
Oh, a heads up as I looked into it, if you already have sky q the offer isn't valid. No reason you couldn't give it to a mate to use, sky wont know!

it is but its also a 65" model, blacks wont be as good as OLED but its close as the Sony is lit by 600 LEDs placed directly behind the screen and each one can be controlled independent of each other.

And then you look at the recommended settings for a given TV and the backlight is often around the 40-50% mark and brightness is also turned down. Peak brightness is one thing. What brightness and settings are used to get a suitable image on a given screen is another.
There is a reason why OLEDs can meet HDR requirements at a lower nit rating.
Waiting for the 65" of this screen to get closer to the £2k mark.

The ZD9 is over £4000 though, it may be bright but it won't do dark as well as an OLED screen. The way I see it, as long as it's uhd premium certified and can handle Dolby vision then all should be well for the next few years, when I looked Sony were very shy about premium certification on any of their models.
paulj48
1 Dec 161#17
average OLED screen brightness 700 nits, the new Sony ZD9's LCD brightness 1800 nits, I know which I'd rather have.

Sure its a beautiful screen, I would love to have one (I use Plasma atm), but the price tag is just far too much.

if buying soon, it's z toss up between the oled65b6v at 2999 or the KD75XD8505BU at 2800... I'm beginning to lean towards the KD75XD8505BU

I thought the Sony TV is a LCD TV? While the TV in this thread is for OLED.
I think the OLED should win this without too much difficulty.
LCD tech is pretty poor when it comes to outright image quality, so they focus on offering cheap prices and lots of smart features.

Thanks to the Brexit Bunch $2999 is roughly £2400, so add 20% VAT and that is £2880. Not far off then, considering freight charges and everything being normally more expensive here anyway.
