Mine has it too. Think they all do.

My Sony DAB alarm clock radio (XDRDS12IP) doesn't suffer from it.

Hello fellow HUKD'ers.

I bought one and it's pretty decent. But I have one query, if I'm listening on DAB to a station with a very good signal, if I put the sound to "zero" I can hear lots of hiss - just like an old radio. Does anyone else have this?

It's not a massive problem (as I listen to the radio with the volume up!) but is bugging me,

That's a great accessory for the power adapter thanks. Incidentally regarding sound quality, I feel myself as having been a victim of hi-fi in the past and the endless quest for perfect sound. As I got older I've gone a bit anti-hi-fi, in that I realise that if I'm in a good mood even music from the most rubbish tiny speaker is enjoyable. Obviously my Pure setup is rather coloured, I got my Yamaha subwoofer operating up to 200 Hz, I've got no idea what the mid-range drop-off of the Pure radio is. I ran it for years without the subwoofer. I find the more background music is the more space there is my imagination and the less tiring music is so I can listen to more.

The kit sound really throws out a big sound which is very pleasing and for me the real stroke of genius is having a tactile on off which can be paired with a remote control plug socket. If I listen to the radio and get a phone call I can remote control turn it off and on through the plug socket or if there is a really awful song I hate. And the linear volume controls wonderful as well. You do get a few niceties with the Pure, I leave mine on the auxiliary setting at nearly full volume with the Bluetooth dongle plugged in and there is no hiss whatsoever so that's a little touch of luxury. That said I so wish I bought more of the kit sound for presents but such is life.

Well I cannot comment about the external speaker because I just have mono with my Pure Evoke 1-S and certainly am a Hi-Fi/Home Cinema nut myself, having either owned or owning Marantz, Denon, Pioneer, NAD, Sony, Yamaha, Sherwood Newcastle equipment over the years alongside Mission speakers when they were still designed and manufactured here.

I find the sound disappointing in comparison to this Kitsound, lacking not only in volume but definitely across the mid range, certainly as a mono speaker my Pure Evoke 1-S is definitely hollow in comparison, alongside far weaker amplification. Build quality obviously is far superior with the Pure Evoke 1-S, but I think they are nowhere worth the asking retail price...I fortunately got mine a few years ago from a HUKD from a PC World for I believe £25 or £30...a bargain then but always found the sound output lacking. This discussion on Amazon also shows others less than impressed with the [Evoke].

With relation to the round pointy power adapter, I intend to buy an adaptor, considering the micro USB port is voltage railed only a tip insertion is actually more secure.

https://www.lindy.co.uk/images/1-5m-usb-to-0-7mm-inner-2-5mm-outer-dc-cable-p7251-4498_medium.jpg

Pair that to a cheap 2000mah power bank and increase the rechargeable battery in the unit 3 fold, 18 hours puts it in the same capacity as the Pure Evoke 1-S I am putting on eBay.

I do have two other Pure radios myself, the Bug (far better sound than the Evoke 1-S, but very dated) and the car one a Pure Highway 300di.

Funnily enough, I also have a Pure evoke 1s with the extended speaker I'm pretty amazed you say the sound quality of the kit sound is better, the kit sound is perfectly pleasing. I'm a hi-fi nut and have packed up my Denon mini system in favour of the pure evoke, using a Logitech Bluetooth adapter with one of the outputs running to a Yamaha subwoofer. It's not ideal because I have to keep the volume up loud for the Bluetooth but I use the pure as a Bluetooth speaker mostly. It might be personal preference but I find all the Pure radios and I have three have a beautiful sound, back in the day I worked at Dixons and some of the expensive Panasonic and JVC cassette radios had that same beautiful treble, like listening to a beautiful bell

I was very disappointed that the kit sound had a round pointy power adapter, if it was Micro USB it would have been fantastic, got charge points all round my flat, so it's very interesting to know about the one by one. Also I would have preferred touch sensitive buttons, normal buttons are great but I resent the extra leverage required when reaching.

In fairness they did have a higher influx of orders than anticipated, 1000 sold in the Black, oversales of those filtering into the white of which they sold around 500, and then how ever many of the sales of the light blue...all went rapidly. This is the reason for the delay in dispatch...unfortunately for yourself Interlink have let you down most likely due to Christmas workload with deliveries.

I still have an order from the 13th that was only dispatched today (16th) and due by Interlink on Monday, my other separate order for two units also on the 13th was dispatched on Wednesday (15th) and was delivered by Interlink (16th).

I bought one - but still haven't got it. Was estimated for delivery 13th - not dispatched until 15th and supposed to be delivered today. But somehow it never even left the depot yesterday - now it's at Birmingham, with estimated delivery for Monday! So much for the next day service they advertised.

To be honest the build quality of these are no match for my existing Pure Evoke 1S, neither is the display OLED, but the sound quality is much better as well as much louder and the tuner sensitivity is top notch picking up DAB stations perfectly.

Interestingly to note, these are also marketed as 1ByOne DAB on Amazon, only difference being the screen shape, but sell for £43. At RRP certainly Kitsound are ripping off consumers for the same product, however at £18/£20 delivered these are an absolute steal.

http://droidhorizon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/myIwQkc.jpg

Have to say I have been impressed with the comms from Kondor too...although due to being busy you get the generic out of office reply in fairness I have had replies the next day from "Charlotte" who remained courteous and apologetic about the delays which clearly are understandable considering the influx of orders in such a short space of time with these. I have ordered four, two have so far been received substituting the out of stock black for white after confirming with myself (some other retailers would simply have cancelled the orders) brilliant service especially with Interlink (DPD) delivery service.

Interesting to note, the ones I have received both have the small jack rather than micro usb socket for power, but also rather than touch sensitive buttons on the top of the unit all have tactile ones instead....an improvement if any of the reviews are to go by.

this was a great deal, I wish I'd bought more than one. However is bit of a stretch to imagine these at|£75 they are just a nice bit of Chinese made equipment slightly more than the sum of its parts. It's a winning device as a whole. The sound quality is adequate it's funny how convenience is more important than sound quality.

I have just tested the power usage and the figures are very low for a DAB radio.
In standby mode, no display on, it is under 0.5w, with display on low, 0.6w, display on full, 0.7w.
Radio on, no display, 1.2w, with display on low, 1.3w, display on full, 1.4w, these figures will also depend upon volume settings but mine was set on medium volume.

I totally agree with regards to its DAB reception. I fully pulled out the aerial so that it could scan and store all available DAB stations near me. But it seems that wasn't necessary as I pushed the aerial all the way back in and all the stored stations played normally without any loss of signal. So happy since that long aerial is an eyesore when fully pulled out.

The fact that it plays DAB stations without having the aerial needing to be extended,

That it has Bluetooth,

That it has reasonable battery life, and that the battery can be easily replaced,

And that it offers good sound quality for the price paid...

...makes it a steal at £20!
joolt
14 Dec 16 #170
This has got to be the best £20 I've spent in a while - I live in a little village where the DAB signal is beyond dreadful. Owned 2 existing digital radios (since before I moved here) and cant receive a single station on them. Bought this Kitsound one only really to use as a bluetooth speaker, wasn't expecting the DAB to work at all but hey presto it does and with a great reception!! So happy I've just bought a white one too to use in the kitchen :-)

14 Dec 16 #169
Is anyone else who has received theirs amazed by how the tiny Nokia BL-5C removable battery with a small capacity of around 1000mAh can power this for up to six hours? While I haven't tested the full potential of the battery life, such a small battery with a quoted life of six hours seems too good to be true?

My phone has a 3000mAh battery and if I were to play continuous music using its small speaker on full volume with the screen off, it would die after around three hours.
buttugly
14 Dec 16 #168
I also thought the white version would be a better choice for the kitchen, but it having a rubberised finish I suspect the white or blue would get a little grubby over time changing settings whilst I'm preparing dinner.

14 Dec 16 #167
Anyone had any experience yet. I like my one however it has a rather strange problem. Occasionally the Bluetooth will cut out momentarily every few seconds. There's no rhyme or reason. It will be working fine for 20 minutes and then the sound will start cutting out for an instant, anyone else had this problem. I connect to many different other Bluetooth devices so it's not my phone. Apart this is a lovely little package and you can choose a preset without having to look at the device.

14 Dec 16 #166
We bought one to replace our ageing Pure Evoke 1-S, rather have this than try and tag a bluetooth dongle to the 1-S...pleased to know that the mid range and tweeters are better, found the 1-S to be really hollow and the volume did not go up too loud either. Clarity over a muddied bass with such a small unit I feel is more important.

Perhaps experiment with some foam plugging in the rear bass port.

Shame they didn't release at the same time as the black. Would have preferred these colours - better for the kitchen
Cro_Baron
14 Dec 16 #164
Tried it in compassion to my Pure evoke 1 side by side and no where near as bassy, a win for pure evoke there but mid range and tweeter's on the kitsound is better though.

Got an email from them

Hi,

Thank you for your recent purchase from our eBay store.

I am writing to inform you that due to an unexpectedly high volume of orders there is a delay in our dispatch times so postage is not going to be as speedy as it usually is.

I have spoken with our warehouse team and unfortunately they are not able to give a definitive date on when orders will be dispatched but all UK orders will be delivered by the 23rd of December at the very latest as long as they are placed before 2pm on the 21st of December.

As soon as your item is dispatched you will be emailed with a tracking number which you can use to keep up to date with your order.

Please let us know via eBay messaging if you need to cancel your order due to this delay.

I am sorry for any inconvenience caused by this and we really appreciate your patience at this busy time.

If you have messaged us through eBay and have received our out of office do not fear we are here working as hard as we can to get your Christmas presents to you as quick as possible J

Thanks,

The eBay listing states:

Introducing the KitSound™ Air

Rich and vibrant sound is the way that everyone should enjoy their music, and that is exactly what the KitSound Air offers: 5 Watts of powerful sound, DAB and FM radio, a UK and EU plug, and Bluetooth connectivity.

...

Easy Connectivity

There is even an alarm clock with snooze and sleep functions built-in. Because we want you to be able to take the KitSound Air with you wherever you go, we've even included a UK and EU plug adaptor.

There seems to be little point in having a rechargeable battery, especially a non-standard one, if there is no way of recharging it.

I'm not sure how accurate the manual's illustration is but the power input looks like a Micro USB 2 port and it mentions a USB charging cable.

I never once said I was getting wound up, you did that process for me, once again over dramatising.
flamesong
13 Dec 16 #104
I ordered two, actually. If you had read the whole thread, you would know that. I love how I'm being accused of being a pedant when I'm not the one getting wound up over a delayed dispatch notice for an item ordered on a Saturday two weeks before Christmas when the item listing itself says that over 1000 have been sold. Having worked in a warehouse when I was younger, I can imagine what processing 1000 units of that size might involve; not to mention the other items they have sold as there were other very good deals on over the weekend one other of which I also bought.

That figure is also key in that no company is going to rip off 1000 customers on eBay in two days because it would guarantee 1000 negative feedbacks. I draw my experience from using eBay which I have been using for over 15 years.

And find any company selling on eBay with a similar turnover which doesn't have a handful of negative comments about delivery. Things get lost, especially this time of year, and people get refunded. I still leave positive feedback if I get a refund or reasonable customer service - some of the feedback comments on there were from people who could not even read the dimensions in item description and I bet none of those complaining about delivery went without their item or a refund eventually.

Incidentally, I received notification of dispatch this morning.

13 Dec 16 #101
I can assume then the delays in despatch are through the sheer volume of items sold at these heavily discounted prices and hopefully will receive a despatch notification today.
cicobuff
13 Dec 16 #100
Do you over dramatise everything anyone comments on? Referring to post number #91 it seems so.

Let me reiterate again pictorially....

http://i68.tinypic.com/nofzer.jpg

Seeing that you never gave a proper response to my question here (assuming you have yourself ordered at least one of these), is it not reasonable to ask on a forum within the very thread in question if anyone else has had a despatch notification? Especially considering (without your statistical analysis) some of the complaints drawn against the seller relate to delivery delays/having to chase up the seller.

I gained VIP status here for deal postings and being helpful, please don't expect one yourself for being a pedant.

21 negatives vs 2162 positives in the last month (over 100:1 positive) and only seven of the negatives are delivery related - that doesn't sound a lot to me - 7 out of 2190 or 1 in 300 had a delivery problem.

Steady on, I am referring to the overall negative feedback on eBay not on this item. There are a lot of comments relating to having to chase up for delivery in general...considering I had an 'estimated delivery of 13th' I think it is quite reasonable to ask if anyone else has had shipment.

I am guessing with the sheer volume of orders they have not been able to get them all out today. I did not order until very late Saturday evening. Good to hear they must do a decent courier I presume DPD if they give a delivery window.

Anyone had despatch on this? Estimated delivery via 24 hour courier states tomorrow (13/12) yet not had any despatch info.....some of the negative feedback doesn't instil any faith.

Okay. it was a joke but smileys are a bit ambiguous - you could have been smiling at those who were behind you in the queue, as it were. Besides, that's just the sort of thing which people do. I bought a Parkside glue gun from Lidl a couple of weeks ago for £7.95 and when I took it back with a fault, couldn't get it replaced because there were none in stock. I look on eBay and somebody is selling them for £19.99 + £2.80 shipping (almost three times the original cost) - for all I know, that person is a member of this forum. They are selling loads of other Parkside (as well as other brands exclusive to Lidl) items at grossly inflated prices so one can draw one's own conclusions.

The only upside is that they have a feedback score of 355 (meaning that they haven't sold much in their three years on eBay) and most of their almost 100 items say that they have more than ten in stock so there is a possibility that they may get caught holding all these items when the items are restocked which according to Lidl may be in March.

Oh well?.

Going_Digital
10 Dec 16 #83
Good prices but the original prices are a joke, These are just the same as the cheap supermarket radios that are about £25-40. I ordered one of the Jive ones to use outside as it is £10 cheaper than the similar bush one from Argos.

Did you?

So, you thought you would come and tell people why they can't get this deal.

I thought that the whole purpose of this site was to share opportunities - not to stuff everybody else and stop them getting a bargain and then gloat about it.

I don't think you need worry. There are quite a few huge reductions in the Vodafone eBay shop like this Kitsound DAB radio reduced from £100 to £20:

This from £40 to £15:

Since I purchased one, the listing now says:-
"The listing below has been updated by the seller, but you can see the item you purchased."
So it is unlikely to be a miss price if the seller has updated the listing after accepting some orders.

Over 700 sold in 24 hours...

While I ordered one, I am beginning to question whether this is a misprice and if the orders will be cancelled. 700+ units must take up a lot of space in the Kondor warehouse (Kondor is the supplier).

Both 5live and Talksport have DAB stations. You won't need AM or LW.
junxs
10 Dec 16 #42
can you get AM or LW on this?
I really don't know much about DAB, but I'd like to be able to listen to talksport or 5live which are on AM frequency - plus the odd cricket commentary on LW.
Common sense tells me it should be able to pick it up, but then why does it not say in the description..

Looks good, I'm sure at 19.99 it's not going to set the party going (only 5w)but as an alarm clock/kitchen radio it looks ok.
I wish my Roberts radio had built in bluetooth and that cost £130 I had to buy a blutooth connector and plug it in to the AUX channel, works well, but looks a bit lame
