Not voting either way, as I would only vote cold. For me, having a power bank that was compact is key and I found KINPS to have the highest power density, as they use Li-Po rather than 18650 cells which waste valuable space.

I can thoroughly recommend the KINPS KP-S007, took it on holiday and it has been flawless!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kinps-16800mAh-External-Technology-Compatible/dp/B00YWMDBJE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481313698&sr=8-1&keywords=KINPS+KP-S007

Or if you spend a quid more, 20'000 mah:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/External-Battery-Kinps-20000mAh-Portable/dp/B00XQP9LL0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481314391&sr=8-2&keywords=KINPS+KP-S009

Or spend £21 for 25'600mah

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kinps-25600mAh-Portable-Aluminum-External/dp/B00YP56XMK/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481314545&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=KINPS+KP-S003

There is always a trade off between power and portability, but you need to get what is right for you, and the most powerful is not necessarily the right one. Example, I have a number of these in different formats. I have a 20,000mah Anker and it is a beast. It will power my phone a number of times over, BUT, it is way too heavy for me to carry around in my pocket for adhoc use. I also have a much smaller Lenovo at only 5,000mah, BUT this thing is so slim it isn't much bigger than a credit card (A bit, but not that much), and it is shaped like a credit card and is slim and flat and will power my phone fully 1.5 times.

Now, my phone will last most of the day on a full charge, so I can pretty much guarantee that even with heavy usage, my smaller lighter less powerful Lenovo will do what I need it to do, so anything else more than that it is overkill and a pain to carry round. It fits in my pocket without me even noticing it is there, so is my first choice almost every time.

So the moral of my long winded story is just be aware of what you actually want it for, do the comparisons, and avoid paying for something extra that you won't necessarily actually use, or would in fact be a pain to use.

Oh by the way, standard rule of thumb is that you will only ever get about 70% of the stated power, so if it says 12,000 you can probably bank on getting circa 8,500, or if it says 10,000 you will probably get circa 7,000. Just the way it is. If it says 10,000 you get 7,000, so if your phone is 3,500 you will get 2 full charges out of it. Rough and ready calcs only but generally in the right ballpark.

Try this one:

I have a similar Aukey, and although they are not as well make as Anker, it seems perfectly fine for the job.

PS: The reviews do not look good :-(

You can buy them cheaper, but you get what you pay for. For example there are some at Poundworld, labled 1800mAh, which should charge a phone half, but it struggles to achieve that. Finding a mid size seems to be difficult, and in my experience they are usually unreasonably expensive.

It does really, ish :-) Stated capacity is 12,000. Real world will see you get about 70%, so circa 8,000 to 8,500. I would see this doing that phone about 4 to 4.5 times as 4.5 x1,800 = 8,100
It's not an exact science by any means, but it is in the right ballpark.

Sorry Me being unclear, many of the big brands get copied, the "real" ones are fine, but there are many, many places that are selling knock off copies of these reputable brands. Your best defence is to buy from a reputable shop, its not perfect but saving a little money isn't worth the risk..

9 Dec 16 #28
I agree with you but both these power banks are pretty reputable - EC Tech or Kit don't make ridiculous power claims for the money, like some, e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20000mAh-Portable-Waterproof-Solar-Charger-Dual-USB-External-Battery-Power-Bank-/232161293284?var=&hash=item360de433e4:m:mIEGZF6ulbTNqujwD2yf4zg

I believe most power banks are 18650 apart from the ultra-thin ones that use custom LiPo cells. I don't think anyone reading this thread has to feel under threat from EC Technology or Kit (other than basic risks that exist with all Lithium batteries, even the very best).

What may not be too apparent but always buy from a reputable source, the cells in these (probably 18650) are made and then tested, and then put in the to various classes, in terms of capacity.

A 18650 is a 6cm \ 2cm diameter tube, so this Kit box (170 x 96 x30) is most likely made up of cells in a 2 x 4 array giving 8 cells. Even the best 18650s only go up to around the 3400 MAH range so they are probably using 1500/1800 MAH cell.

The EC one is probably a similar layout as its a similar size, using 2800 mAH cells, again perfectly reasable.

Decent quality 18650s in the 2400 to 3200 range from £6 to £10 retail each depending on brand and if they have a protection circuit. While people like EC and Kit will get a bulk discount be very, very wary of anyone claiming huge capacities but low price on power banks, the chances are they have simply re wrapped the cells with a fake capacity, I've cells that are labelled 5300Mah which a joke, they are more like 800mah (Yes I knew they would be crap as they were really cheap at the time, far to cheap to be the claimed capacity).

Remember what happened with the EE powerbanks, these devices hold a lot of charge in a small package, don't scrimp on safety buying the cheapest think on Ebay, spend a little more with a shop that less likely to have clones or knock off versions that have been tested.

The EC Technology one is fine, but it is (too) big and heavy for regular use - you would probably only want this in a rucksack not your pockets. With 'Kit' you are paying for the brand really but in terms of performance they should be similar. The EC Technology one has also been as low as £14.99 before (when I got mine) so I would say it's overpriced at £22.99 now.

Also, some of the Kit power banks have a proper LED segment display charge remaining meter whereas this one is 4 LEDs, which is fine but gives you much less idea how much power is available.

One last one - how does it compare to the EC https://www.amazon.co.uk/EC-Technology-22400mAh-Capacity-Flashlight/dp/B00F5Q4F0U/ref=zg_bs_5520530031_7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=55SPC1NEEE46EPHSNSZ3 - the latter seems to have almost double the charge for a reasonable price?

Got one to take on holiday and paid 20£ on a "Black Friday" "deal". The fast-charge beats all my wall-chargers (lost my Note 4's original plug), the build quality is really nice, the size to power ratio is bang on compared to what I've had before.
