To put it quite simply...the multi-one is an all in one machine....jack of all trades, master of none for want of a better phrase....don't get me wrong it's a decent enough machine but really isn't designed for one particular task whereas the KMix is a specialised machine for bakers so if baking is your main priority and you do a lot of it I would go for the KMix...I've had one for over a year now and have used it constantly and it's thrown everything I've thrown at it....must admit the only thing in the baking line I've found a food processor handy for is chopping nuts/biscuits etc as the Kmix does not have any blades for chopping/cutting/dicing...I bought a little kenwood mini chopper for doing nuts and it's superb but doesn't have a large capacity but then again you're not usually doing massive quantities when chopping nuts....it's too small for doing biscuits though so usually use a food processor for that...
Anyway will stop rambling as really no sure if I'm being of any help at all....

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I just bought the blender and mixer from AO.com a week ago, due for delivery Christmas Eve for £199 and a few days later they had an offer of 10% off, so I phoned them and they reduced it there and then, but I'm tempted to cancel that order and just get the mixer although still a saving with my blender........

admando
21 Dec 16#47
On the face of it this seems like an excellent deal, but at the same time I begin to wonder in this day and age when something is reduced so much. Either it's cheap and cheerful and previously overpriced, or Kenwood are taking a hit for some reason. I suspect it's the latter since the reviews are so good, making it a good deal, nice one.
On the topic of mixers, how comes the likes of this one and the more iconic Kitchenaid are so down on power compared to some others?
tiggerloveslife to admando
21 Dec 163#50
Think it's more likely that this is an older colour/stock which may possibly be being discontinued and Amazon has surplus stock to sell...plus the fact the ones that come with the stainless steel bowl tend to be more popular than the glass bowl one now....put it this way John Lewis reduced the purple one a couple of years ago because the colour was discontinued but it came with the stainless steel bowl and was reduced to £180 in July/August 2015 I think...also quite a few retailers ran black Friday deals in 2015 on these machines selling them around the £180 mark which was definitely a good price at the time.
The black one is definitely an older one as there was a promotion running for a bit that you got a free flexible creaming beater with the machine whereas the newer colours don't include it.
I can highly recommend the machine...had mine for over a year and have used it constantly and it's manged everything I've thrown at it...one thing that should be noted is that it is a hell of a weight and is not designed to be lifted in and out of a cupboard...mind you the weight makes sure it doesn't move that much when you're mixing something intensive like dough unlike a lot of the cheaper models that quite literally start walking across the surface you're using them on when you try to mix something....have witnessed this in action and been assigned to the role of holding the machine to make sure it didn't end up on the floor....admittedly I wouldn't leave the Kmix unattended when using it either as there can be a little bit of movement with it when mixing dough or using it on the higher speeds.

tiggerloveslife to jonnyfaz
21 Dec 164#51
Mine has definitely been powerful enough...cor feel like I've become the Kmix Spokesperson/Cheerleader here and should be getting some kind of commission...lol...I've had this machine for over a year and have used it constantly...have made cakes/dough/pastry and never had an issue with it and it's handled everything I've thrown at it with ease and always given excellent results...put it this way Saturday just past I made 12 sponges, pastry for 72 mince pies, croissant dough and danish pastry dough and it handled it all no problem at all...they used them on the Great British Bake Off 2015 so don't think they'd have been using them if they weren't capable machines....

Yeah feels like it might be limited that way, i went for model below, 2 year warranty plus extra year using nationwide card and stainless steel bowl and 1000 w motor.
These are great for making pizza dough and naan bread very easy. Used mine again last night. Whenever I make sponge the mix always splits though, not mastered that yet. Our kmix gets used at least once per week. I need a deal on the mincer attachment now.

is it good/better compared to the kitchenaid mixer?
Better. This has got electronic torque control so it adjusts the power depending on how stiff the mixture is and it ramps up the speed as you crank it up. If you notice on a lot of shows they flip the artisan to 5 and it immediately whizzes away throwing flour everywhere. Artisans also have a sacrificial plastic wheel that breaks if it thinks the going is tough and you have to take the machine apart and replace it. The kMix would just use the electronics to shut it down if that was the case.
Clivecvh
21 Dec 16#83
It means that it comes in a box that says Kenwood Mixer and given the way Amazon couriers leave things on your front doorstep as they can't read where your designated safe place is it increases the chances of being removed from your doorstep. A plain Amazon box reduces the chances but not a lot!

This can be a fabulous mixer, but do read the Amazon review about the design fault. I bought one in a lovely shade of green via Tesco from a post on here. It was fabulous for cake mix, but the bowl locked every time I used it for dough and once for pastry. Each time it had to go back to Havant to be fixed and the turn around was 2-3 weeks. Kenwood said it was repairable and would not replace it. Eventually I contacted Tesco who refunded my money and uplifted it. I would buy one again, but not the glass bowl. It was clear from one conversations I had with kenwood that they know there is a problem with the glass bowl model.
You are most very welcome...glad that my ramblings were of some help although I apologise for the delay in replying...had no power for about 4 hours and it's only just come back on...the joys of living in the middle of nowhere...lol....

tiggerloveslife
21 Dec 161#98
Hence the reason I said in my post (#44) that I use the glass one for cake mix and the metal ones for dough...
I have both the glass and the stainless steel bowls....I would definitely favour the stainless steel one over the glass if I'm making dough due to the length of time the machine has to "mix" it as must admit I've found it quite hard at times to remove the stainless steel one after the dough has taken a good pounding as it seems to push the bowl quite hard into the part at the bottom which holds the bowl so don't think I'd risk the glass one for this. However would favour the glass one if I'm making a cake as you can clearly see when all the ingredients are properly mixed and you're generally not mixing for that long with cakes....

21 Dec 16#102
It sounds like it might be worth keeping the KMX80 then with the metal bowl. I did read that some had an issue with the glass one snapping off when trying to remove it, the bottom is plastic and it locked in. The metal bowl is £70 to buy on it's own from Kenwood.
OttovonPrimark
21 Dec 16#103
Can anyone else confirm this? The creaming beater is a £30-£35 add-on elsewhere.
Pezza2u
21 Dec 16#104
Although I bought the KMX80 that also came with the creaming beater and there was no mention of it being included. Unless it's just a few selected boxes it was included with you should get it.
tiggerloveslife
21 Dec 161#105
Possibly but also a little bit of advice when making dough even in the stainless steel bowl...I've found that if you continuously mix the dough for things such as bread or croissants even the metal bowl an be extremely hard to remove so what I do is "burst" mix for want of a better term...mix for a short period of time...stop, loosen bowl....tighten bowl...mix for another short period of time...stop, loosen bowl and keep repeating until dough has mixed for specified time....makes it far easier to remove the bowl...to be very honest if I was buying the Kmix not based on price and had the choice of stainless steel or glass bowl I'd definitely go or the stainless steel bowl....admittedly I bought one of these black ones on the lightning deal last week to get all the attachments as it basically worked out cheaper than buying the attachments separately and will be useful to have another spare bowl/flexible creaming beater etc...
tiggerloveslife
21 Dec 16#106
Sure some people on the other thread for this machine when it was a lightning deal at the same price last week mentioned they got the flexible creaming beater included.
I understood it to mean they'll put the (probably large) appliance box is another (Amazon) box to hide the contents. However, I recently bought a food processer and chose this option and it didn't - it was a cardboard box, yes, but the brand/model was written all over it (it wasn't an Amazon box). Sort of ruined the Christmas present. :disappointed:

If your mixture is splitting then there's a problem with how you are using the ingredients. Always cream butter and sugar until white and fluffy. When adding eggs do it a little at a time and always make sure they're mixed in well before adding more. If any hint of curdling at all add a wee bit of the flour with each small amount of egg.
Can't go wrong if you do it that way  that and make sure butter/eggs are room temperature

Hi,
Just trying to find out if this mixer has the option to attach pasta roller, pasta cutter, mincer etc in the front ? The image does not show the front. I compared the products KMX52 vs KMX50GBK on Kenwood site and it says this product does not have the slow speed extension in the front. But description in Amazon says it has. Could anybody who bought this product tell if this mixer has the front attachment feature ? And does the "Pasta Roller KAX970ME" work ?
Sorry wrong place to ask but thought might be quicker here than go through Kenwood customer service. Thanks

I got this for effectively £72 and iwill prob sell the creamer bringing it down to £50 ish. The sell the old one for £15. £35 for this. Insane. Built like the proverbial too.
That said, ive just made a right mess of an apple cake. Mixture gone like lead. Had to chuck it.

Thanks for your help and advise
I bought the glass bowl from Debenhams, which arrived today. I can understand the plastic ring being fragile and breaking if it got stuck too firmly. Buying the KMX80 and the glass bowl has only cost me £20 more than it would've done buying this deal and the metal bowl, which isn't too bad. I was considering getting this for the bowl and spare attachments but decided not to.

Thanks OP i ordered and it arrived yesterday. Hottest thing this year imho. (Well close but ahead of the Nespresso i bagged last week!!)
Unfortunately i had two back to back drinking sessions so didn't actually muster life to try yesterday. Equally groggy today but can confirm it also has the free beater.
Anyone know who'll cover this with warranty - i remember some say call up with any new product and we can cover it (i want it for the accidental some!)

Mine arrived next day, alas Amazon neglected to dispatch it in one of their boxes as requested. Fortunately the intended recipient was out when it arrived.
UPDATE: Amazon refunded me 10% for the oversight - result!

Same happened with me! Luckily I opened the door to receive the parcel....
Did Amazon contact you about the refund, or do you need to email them?

Send Amazon an email or contact them by whatever method complain about the box . They seem to be giving everyone 10%. I wrote and said would make a good item for BBC Watchdog given Amazon has totally let so many down. Posting your complaint on the Amazon Facebook page also works.

I can't decide between the Kmix and the Kenwood either, what did you go for in the end?
What do others think? The extra attachments would definitely be handy and the price is the same.

Ended up going for the Kmix, used it to make mince pie pastry and it was brilliant! No mess, so quick and easy to clean afterwards. As others helpfully suggested, if you want the blender, etc then maybe go for that, but this one does what we need it to. And it comes with the attachment that is worth £30 separately so even more vfm.

On the topic of mixers, how comes the likes of this one and the more iconic Kitchenaid are so down on power compared to some others?

From ebay/argos is stronger (800W), but the amazon's one is more stylish.
kitchen aid is 'direct drive' which is more efficient - is this?
think of led vs normal bulbs - same brightness is different W
I think this may help re warranty details.

Ah sorry see someone else has posted a picture showing the details of how to do it....
Ridiculous price.
Buy it now!!!!

I'm looking to get one for my wife for Xmas. Thanks for any help.
Thanks both. Saw Micah88's post about the design fault with the KMX50 and will go for the KMX80 instead.
Can't go wrong if you do it that way  that and make sure butter/eggs are room temperature
The machine itself is the same apart from the colour.
Need to see what im doing wrong.
Went too fast i think.
Thank you.
All metal apart from very thick pirex type bowl
Tools = k mixer, dough hook and balloon whisk and additional creamer is also included (usually £30 extra)
5 yr kenwood g/tee
Appears brand new model BK50GBK (additional sticker on box ) on side shows pic of item with code KMX54GBK
this is my bargain of the year - 2016
Thanks for posting the deal, OP. I was after a K-mix or Kitchen aid for several years.
