Not everyone gets their news at the same time you do. I hope for the sake of your greying temples that you haven't had to deal with the 720p v 1080p viewing distance discussion TV threads. There wouldn't be enough ambien in the world for you then.

Yes ; but u ll only get one colour; no point spending that much if you don't use a bride and app to control them!

I've seen other lightbulbs that don't need a bridge though, such as the Lifx ones?

Yes- they are Bluetooth based; nowhere near as good as these! My advice DONT BUY- u ll get hooked till you be replaced all bulbs in house! Can end of being a costly hobby!

Someone on here warned me how addictive these can be.... I thought I'd just try one, after all it's just once right but as per many addictions that one led to more. Avoid unless your willing up end up spending silly money replacing most of your bulbs  heat added

Wait, so these bulbs can't be controlled via an app? You need a hub?

Can we NOT do an explanation of Hue and other smart home products and concepts every time one of these is posted?
Top tip: if you want to know about hubs and bridges and wifi and z-wave (not Bluetooth) try a home automation site, not a deal site.
You don't get food and drink deals posted full of comments about "Can I eat this? Will it make me fat?".

Hmmmmm how about every time we come here to talk about it and where the deals are cheapest, we "in the know" have to explain to a bunch of lazy novices apparently without google just what it is that's on offer, somewhat distracting from the more useful deal-related chat........

I think the whole concept of wifi lighting is upside down. It's good as retro fit but I think going forward any house that is being built/retired should have the technology to control each electrical outlet remotely (such as an app), be it a light switch or a plug socket.
Doesn't matter which bulb you use or how often it fails. It's a normal priced bulb that doesn't require additional technology in the bulb or separate equipment. Accept that these bulbs in this deal offer additional colours.
Also think the whole start meter is a fallacy. Nothing smart about transmitting readings. It would be better if you could see real time usage remotely and drill that down to how much electricity is being consumed by each socket in real time or over a certain period.
Rant over!
P.S I won't be buying any, just in case that wasn't obvious :smirk:

Check out LightwaveRF if those are your thoughts . Smart meter in an app and retrofit sockets and light switches so keep your normal bulbs. Simples!

These, are what I considered for a while http://www.ibroadlink.com/tc2/ . Still might add them for certain lights that wouldn't be suitable for Hue.

Go Chinese through ebay forget apps you get a remote with them the outdoor ones are brill and they cheap as chips. Chinese make good lights but sh*te metal.

Am I right in thinking that to be useful, the light needs to always be switched on at the wall switch? Presumably, if it's switched off then on again, it will take a little time for it to be controllable from the app? I would hate the thought of having to leave all of these electronic lights "on" with mains voltage going into them, just waiting to go up in smoke when they become faulty.
