Update
just called ee on 0800 956 6000
& said that I still not had received the unlock code despite their email to 10 days ago stated it can take upto 10 days.
He replied that the payg had not been properly registered so he registered it again & gave me £15 credit. I said that the code was more important than the credit to me. Now upto another 10 days to wait. He said he will ask the unlock team to prioritise the request. Now wait & see.

Heat, looks like a lot of phone for the price.
Similar to the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 4 (etc.) but slightly lower Antutu score, though you don't have to wait for the slow boat from China.
Oh, and it has Band 20 before anyone asks. :stuck_out_tongue:

I picked one up at the start of the month at this price, but display price was different in four ee stores. If you can get the staff to stop chatting to each other for a minute they should confirm the price. Good phone for the money.

8.99 is if youre not registered as an EE customer. you could buy a payg sim (or the one with the top up) register the aim and device in an online EE account then you can request free.

as to the top up at 20 rather than 10.....that's frustrating. perhaps get them to ring central office or something when there to get their facts right.

You just need to persist and read out the part of the website which states it is free and where it explicitly states the 6 months is only for contract customers. I did this, they changed their tune quickly.

Also. Make sure you get a tempered glass screen protector for this phone, it's got cheap glass and scratches very easily.
plewis00
16 Dec 16 #30
I think (if I'm not mistaken and you can tell me), that on this model, the 'cheap glass' is in fact a factory-fitted plastic screen protector that you can remove which exposes the actual high-quality glass. This is a great handset in all respects, and stunning value for money.

16 Dec 16 1 #32
By cheap glass I mean it's *not* scratch resistant Gorrilla Glass that other handsets have. And yes, there is a useless factory fitted 'screen protector' that fails to protect it. It's a shame because it's a really great phone otherwise.

Don't worry, I received the same message when I issued my request to unlock the p9 lite via that form. Cant be bothered to read thru all the post so might have already been said , but I bought one the last time EE had this offer..

1) Ace phone but ditch the stock launcher for another ( I use Nova ) but to be fair I did not give it much of a chance.

2) Battery life excellent , I get home from work with between 75/85% left, not a heavy user but bluetooth and wifi is on all day..., also very fast...

3) It is unlocked for free but you need to register on the EE site first, took about 7 days to come thru.

4) Can also be unlocked for £3.50 if you cant wait https://www.dc-unlocker.com/free-huawei-bootloader-unlock-tutorial

5) Can also be rooted on the same site for the same price, it was fairly straightforward but had to try it a few times as the unlocker could not find the phone.

6) To root it you need to unlock the bootloader (above)and all the free rooting guides online failed to do this

7) It is 3gb of RAM

:sunglasses: Fingerprint unlock is fantastic

Downsides

1) Cant move stuff form internal to SD card, but you can make the SD card into the default storage so make this the first thing you do then after that everything that can be will be put on the card.

2) Might be me but I cant plug the phone into my comp and transfer music etc, it puts it own app on the computer and I cant seem to get it to work, not a biggy just took the card out of the phone put in the comp and put all my stuff on it that way.

3) Cant set anything but photos for daydream (I like to have a clock)

Ignore them they are idiots , the kid in my shop asked his manager if they were allowed to sell it to me as I had told him I was going to unlock mine and use another network, both myself and the manager gave him the "you are an idiot look" , before the manager said what the customer does after buying the phone is none of their business...

Unlocking , I registered, rang the indian call center and a nice chap knew all about it and processed me in a few mins, as said the code came a week later...

The 6 months is for contract phones I believe, if that is the case just pay £3.50 (in my previous post)

It seems every time this is posted, there is always a debate about unlocking from EE for free.

I unlocked 2x P9 Lite - called CS (0800 956 6000) the same day I purchased the phones, registered and then requested the unlock code immediately. None of the CS disputed although on the last request one of them said ‘…you just bought the phone and already want to unlock it?’ I said Yes, that’s right, lol and he didn’t say anything, and processed the request. Also, unlocked an old Alcatel phone. I had to call after few days on the first two requests as I did not receive anything and they did it over the phone. Last one, they did it after 6/7 days via email.

Also, they converted the £10/£5 packs to normal pay as you credit without any issues.

I purchased the phones from EE retail shop (Moorgate) as a pay as you go upgrade, one for £125 and the other £120 with £10\£5 mandatory top-ups. It also came with £10 free credits to be used within 2 months.

Good specs on paper, but when you actually use it you can feel where they have cut corners. The touch screen feels very low quality and dosnt track your finger well so its bad for gaming and gives a bad overall experience. I got mine with the beats headphones and sent it back because of this issue. I got a Moto g4 instead and it's a much better phone, dispite having worse specs on paper.

Remember guys, you won't need to unlock it if you plan to use the following network SIMs inside:

ASDA Mobile
Orange
T-Mobile
BT Mobile
Co-op Mobile
1p Mobile
Virgin Mobile
Plusnet Mobile/LIFE

Delight and Vectone are unlikely to work despite them using EE - they have some strange setup where from my personal experience their SIMs don't work in locked EE phones, they have to be unlocked.

Hope this helps.

Thanks OP, picked up a black one in York today to replace my P8 Lite, which has been brilliant. A quick tip, if you've an EE pay as you go SIM lying around which is active, and has been for over three months, ask for a PAYG upgrade. It saved me £15, total paid £124 including the £10 top up.

I just bought one in Edinburgh to replace an Xperia XA. The Sony had a nice design but woeful battery life, no fingerprint scanner and 2GB of RAM.

I like that the P9 Lite has a bigger and full HD screen. I was able to transfer all my apps over by touching the 2 phones together (NFC) and afterwards the Huawei downloaded everything from Google Play.

The camera seems good enough, and I'm going to enjoy watching Netflix and listening to music on this phone. I had a spare 128GB microSD which now has a new home.

Fantastic value for the price.

Got my mum one of these when the Beats deal was cheaper. On the invoice it £129.99 for the phone, £30 for the Beats and £10 top up.

Got £20 top up (dunno why), giving the missus the Beats for Christmas and gave my mum the phone at the cost price.

The battery life is excellent and the device is nice and fast. As she's on TalkTalk, she gets a free SIM contract that's plenty for her so contacted EE to unlock on the day it was delivered. Took about 10 days as EE needed to contact Huawei for code. Once arrived, all sorted in seconds. Now I've got £20 on a SIM I don't need so might use it on Play Store through mobile billing.

I got one yesterday from the Beverley store, £129.99 and £10 top up. The salesperson said can't unlock for 6 months and showed him what it says off the web site. He said it's wrong info on the web site

If you’re on pay as you go, you can unlock your phone as soon as you get it, as long as it’s locked to EE, Orange or T-Mobile. Your pay as you go account must be registered with your details for us to unlock a pay as you go device. Register or manage your account >

You must also ensure the device has not been reported as lost or stolen.

There are no charges for unlocking for pay as you go devices bought from EE and our indirect partners. We’ll need to check other devices to confirm where and when they were bought. Pay monthly devices used on pay as you go will be subject to pay monthly rules and checks.

Didn't expect much from this phone but honestly I'm amazed by it.
I've mainly been an iOS user (currently got a 6s plus), but had a few flagship androids along the way. Never really been tempted to switch till I got this phone. Easily the smoothest Android phone I've ever used. Great build quality for the price. Battery life is astonishing.

Never thought a £129 Android would have me considering switching over!

I had a play with both the G4 and this before opting for the Huawei. Not sure why but the Huawei was substantially more responsive and a lot quicker. Was really surprised as vanilla Android is touted as the 'cleanest' Android you can get.
Checked YouTube comparison vids which were also in favour of the P9L.

If you can go to a carphone warehouse store and try them out you'll see what I mean. All down to personal preference obviously but for me there's no real contest. The battery life and fingerprint scanner outweigh the desire for vanilla Android. Can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with either though.

I might be biased, owning an Honor 8 myself, but the more RAM, the better.

More RAM means you can do more stuff at the same time as other stuff.
A faster processor means you can do whatever you want quicker.

This will be the better option.

She'll love this.

Huawei have added some really useful gestures and controls that are more commonly found on high end Samsung devices, but not 'stock' Android devices like the Moto G range.

An example is scrolling screenshots, which capture the whole screen and the content below it. I use it all the time! Also I'm a huge fan of the one handed UI mode which makes the screen smaller - ideal for use on buses and trains. You can't find that on the Moto G or other vanilla Android phones either!

There's also a gloves mode which increases the sensitivity of the screen so that you can still use it while wearing gloves. A handy feature again that is not found on Moto G or even the iPhone.

I finally decided to change from the legend that was the original Moto G to this. Very pleased I did. It's a fabulous phone with a real quality feel and superb performance and battery life - I am seeing around 1 hour of screen on time for every 10% of battery use. The only downside (as the reviews did mention and I knew beforehand) is the charging time. That aside, it's a bargain at £130 - I looked far and wide, read and YouTube-d plenty of reviews, and couldn't locate a better budget phone for this price. I created an EE account, verified my device through the account and was able to request an unlock code online. All fairy straightforward. The automated email says the code will be sent within 10 days.

I think Lenovo/Lenovo retailers may have shot themselves I'm the foot by not reducing the Moto G4 to £130 (or less) in time for Christmas.

I'm typing this on a 1st gen Moto G and have been feverishly looking on this site 10 times a day to upgrade it to the G4 for months now, but not for £160. That's retail and has been that price since release.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one thinking 'a price drop has to come by Xmas right!??'

Wrong. What's happened instead? The King is dead. Long live the King. Dumb...

Nice info, hadn't tried clicking thru to that area before.
my daughter is getting upgrade from orig Moto G, was def going to talk her into the P9 lite but this price for Moto G4 is good. Screen size will be the dealbuster for her, but for me the P9 lite wold still be preferred (and what I bought for myself) for that RAM (2Gb vs 3Gb). Am leaving Firefox OS mob that was rocking a massive 500Mb RAM so this P9lite is good fun.

I can't comment on how robust it is (in use) because the missus won't let me use it till Sunday  but my initial thought on first handling it was 'gonna have to be careful with this' I'd feel more comfortable using a phone with more rounded edges but for the price & specs this is a great deal and I'll get used to it

Jaye_Kaye
23 Dec 16 #158
For the money, the build seems impressive. It's very refined with excellent fit and finish, but it's still a 5.2-inch budget phone with a plastic back. And it's a thin phone so, if you do intend to sit on a phone, I wouldn't choose this one! My old Moto G was ideal - 4.5 inch and chunky - and you could have it in your back pocket and sit on it without a thought. I won't be sitting on this one.

Ok, I bought one....not sure I can be bothered to get it unlocked via EE (waiting 7 days + is a drag), before I pony up for the https://www.dc-unlocker.com service, I'm thinking about rooting my phone (yeah, yeah I know....invalidate the warranty, can brick it etc), as the second sim being enabled would be useful - are there any Mobile rooting experts out there that can say whether rooting my phone will remove it being locked to EE (because I don't want to shell out for https://www.dc-unlocker.com ....if rooting will unlock my p9 lite too)

Any phone will smash depending on the force and height at which it was dropped from.

Gorilla Glass does not stop a screen from cracking. It stops a screen from being scratched.

The ONLY smartphone out there with a truly crack resistant, smashproof display is the Moto Z Force. But that basically has a plastic screen instead and despite it being smashproof, it scratches quite easily.

Frankly, whilst the concept was simple enough (download a program, buy some credits for €4, set a setting on the P9 lite, connect to computer & unlock), it was a bit of a faff, this is the best guide....

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66782268&postcount=5

....but even that guide didn't match my experience....in my case, rather than the program unlocking autonomously, it just read the phone's internals spat out some codes onscreen....

Unlock codes:
NCK : 8283322654568903
NetSub : 9161509708706159
SP : 3469575729244552
Unblock 4879113680579727

(note I've changed the numbers!)

Though not obvious, faced with those codes, you have to put then put your non EE SIm in, restart the phone & then enter the NCK code that the unlocking program provided you with. (essentially the NCK code is the SIM/network unlock code).....their unlock code worked though, & for the small £3.50 it cost, it saved waiting for a week or two for EE to get back to me.

One thing to note, after downloading the program & installing it, before connecting your phone to the computer, do this...

Enable "manufacture mode" on your p9 Lite. This is done by entering in dial pad code *#*#2846579#*#*, select "Project Menu", "Background settings", "USB ports settings", "Manufacture mode".

...then connect your phone to the PC....the dc-unlocker program can then find it ok.

The other thing is for safety's sake is to enable OEM unlock (not needed for uNlocking, but if anything goes wrong whilst dabbling with this type of thing, at least things can be recovered)....

http://android.wonderhowto.com/news/psa-enable-hidden-setting-before-modding-anything-android-0167840/ (bottom part - "How to Enable 'OEM Unlocking'" it's quick & simple, but yields peace of mind)

Seems to be a trend. I did the online form, set up my account & verified my device and, as far as I could tell, I did everything correctly, but my request was refused today as I had not set up my account correctly.

I phoned and spoke to EE and they just took my name and address, asked a few verification questions about when I last topped up and how I paid for the phone and they said I'd get the code in another "within 10 days" period. So I'd recommend anyone else unlocking to speak to them and get them to confirm you've set up your account correctly rather than relying on the online form. Might save you a few wasted days.

Just tried the free unlock via the website (after registering my SIM, device, topping up £5 so it had my card and address details, etc).

Bloody EE website.

Gave up when it rejected at what looks like the very last page with an 'Ooop, something went wrong' message for the fourth time.

Will try on the phone instore I guess, waste a bit of their time as well as mine.

Was out and about using the FM radio today, very good, almost as good as the Sony ones, and also hardly used any battery. Such a great device, and I am somebody who has been through loads of phones this year, from a Nexus 6p, a Note 4, a Yodaphone 2 (also awesome, but not as a daily phone), Moto X Play, Oneplus 3, an S5, Xa, z2 and Z3C's... the p9 Lite is the standout for me, or just about equal to the Z3C (because of the screen, battery, general performance , sound and FM radio, a biggie for me).
Great stuff.

Since you seem to know what you're doing....

1. I couldn't wait on EE, so ponied up €4 to get my phone unlocked (via dc-unlocker), but apparently I need to pony up another €4 if I want to unlock the bootloader....are you saying that the unlock code that EE eventually sent you gave you unbridled access to the phone (to allow you to do the procedure to enable dual sim)

2. What guide did you follow to successfully get the 2nd sim card clot working?

3. After doing this upgrade does everything work (no bugs?)

Thanks.
Expd
7 Jan 17 1 #226
The code sent by EE is only to unlock the phone to accept any network/sim card.
You do not need the above code to unlock the bootloader/ debrand/upgrade the firmware. You can do these operations while the phone still locked to EE.

Unlocking the bootloader is the easiest part, first request the bootloader password from the Huawei website ( a free straightforward immediate procedure). You need Huawei ID to log in.
http://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/index (I recommend to log in first then open another tab and copy the link given here to go straight to the unlocking page). After getting the password you need a command via fastboot to unlock it.

Debranding/upgrading the firmware to 2 sim is not easy I'm afraid, it took long long hours till I got there. My laptop is ready now to do these operation in no time. Unlocking the bootloader is just the introduction (required) and the easiest part. Also you need a SD card. Obtaining and Rewriting files via adb/fastboot command ...etc.

*Be advised that unlocking the bootloader will Factory reset the phone so you need to backup if needed.

No bugs as all I did is changing the firmware from 1 sim EE branded version to 2 sim Europe version.

I'm a bit late to the show with this one, however I plan on checking in my local EE store in a couple of days time to see what they still have the price as.

One question though, that I'd like to know from anyone who has got it from an EE store, not CPW etc. Are the phones branded as well as Sim locked? I just wondered how bad the branding is from EE if it is indeed branded. When you have their logo plastered everywhere and they fill the OS with bloatware it's a bit off putting. If it's just locked to EE but has stock firmware then that would be nice! Thanks

no branding what so ever or bloatware from EE, only SIM locked. Not sure on the ROM but I think it's a ee one.
Don't have the phone now (moved to a full fat p9) but its really a superb phone and a bargain at this price.

yesterday i recieved a text telling me that i've just made the request for unlocking and its going to be another 10 days until i get it
literally a month to get this POS unlocked IF they actually give me the unlock code in 10 days, cause so far every time i call to check up on whats going on they tell me that the account i have is not registered properly(which is a complete lie).

it seems to me that you place the request and someone takes a look at it on the 10th day, nothing is being done before that even if you speak with CS or send a freaking complaint online.

should've just bought an unlocked moto g4, this is freaking ridiculous.
i wouldnt be so upset about all of this if the phone wasnt a present for someone else...

I wish that carphonewarehouse was selling them at a reasonable price when I got from ee as they are unlocked to avoid this hassle. I ended up getting the gold one as they did not have the black ones in stock -extra 30 quid ! Were they holding back the black ones in order to shift the dearer gold ones? I am suspicious.

Unlocking requests being dealt with "within 10 days" does seem like it is "in 10 days", though my requests were over Christmas and New Year so 10 days each not too bad.

I did get my unlock code yesterday and it worked fine and my Tesco SIM is working. After my initial "account not registered correctly" refusal, I phone and spoke to EE, gave them further details and all seemed fine and was told "within 10 days". However, that same evening I received a second refusal message saying "account not registered correctly". I don't know if that was the second request made via telephone being refused or if they sent the first refusal message twice, many hours apart. Confusing.

So I topped up £5 to put my card details on my account and tried the online form again. Got the code 10 days later, though I don't know whether that was from the phone call to EE or due to the £5 credit and online form. So if anyone is getting multiple "account not registered" refusals, the £5 credit (lowest amount you can do) might do the trick.

They refused to unlock mine for free because it was less than 6 months and they charged me £8.99 for unlocking. Is this right?
Expd
10 Jan 17 #234
Guys unlocking is free and as easy as 1 2 3, register the phone/sim online, request the unlock code from within your account by filling in the form then just wait usually 7-10 days, you may receive a text message at the end of this period saying thanks for requesting to unlock your phone, you will receive an email in 10 days. That usually means you will receive an email that day or the next day with the unlock code.
My first attempt failed (my fault) because I requested the unlock from my other account without registering/adding the new phone/number.

No need to call them as some of their staff are clueless and may wrongly charge you.
You already in credit when you purchased the phone so why topping up!!

Just to confirm that unlocking a PAYG phone on EE is free straight away. No need to wait 6 months. I purchased 2 phones for my daughters for xmas. 1st attempt failed as an EE customer service operator didn't enter all the info into their system. Called them back after 8 days and tried again, with all info entered this time around, it took 9 days (but this was over xmas holidays). Then I received codes by email. If they try to make you pay for unlocking, refer them to their own website details, which states its free

Been using phone for 3 weeks now and it's definitely an upgrade from my iPhone 5s so glad I bought it , strange thing on do not disturb setting that for some reason it was still on at 7:30am even though I had set it to allow callers after 7am it worked fine until the last 2 days so I have cleared the times and will schedule to see if it works ok

1: What is branded about the EE Firmware?
2: Are you saying that the dual sim feature of this phone does not work and is locked down when you buy from EE and keep the EE firmware on there?
3: When you unlock the boot loader does this void your warranty?
4: There seems to be some threads online where there are a couple of different methods of unlocking the boot loader. From a quick skim read, some people are saying that a certain method keeps the warranty intact because they are able to "relock" the boot loader. Other replies say that the phone would just show a status of "relocked" anyway so would be detectable. So basically I want to know if warranty gets voided.

I used to be someone that did not care for warranty and took risks on phones to get control with root etc, but I have had so many phones die on me and have issues that I cannot trust to do it now as warranty is important to me.

18 Jan 17 #246
great! was it free? and do you have to keep the sim in the phone until you get the code? I like to use another ee sim in the phone

thanks
hunsbury0
18 Jan 17 #247
No, you don't have to keep the original supplied ee sim in the phone. Once you receive the unlock code, insert a non ee related sim eg - 3, vodafone etc sim which will then prompt you to enter the unlock code. It was free from ee. See earlier posts on how to request the free unlock code.
Expd
18 Jan 17 #248
EE branding is kept to minimum(almost invisible) but updates may take longer to reach for branded versions.
You need to flash a file to unlock the 2 sim. Basically the hardware is there for 2 sims but not the software which is stupid. The bootloader is automatically locked after performing software update.

I wasn't thinking about warranty doing the procedure, it was for educational purposes.

If I want to return it then will flash the original firmware and send it back.

Is there a way of unlocking this phone from EE WITHOUT using the supplied £10 PAYG sim they make you buy with the phone?
I want to unlock it and then sell that separately.

EDIT: Apparently not.
doubleuc
20 Jan 17 #252
Finally unlocked free via code supplied over the phone from EE.

First attempt, rejected by text on day 10, incorrect registration.

Second attempt, Phoned them, bla bla very sorry, will get it sorted as soon as etc. Registered it to me this time (it's a Christmas present), waited 14 days with no answer.

Third attempt, Phoned and said I had no reply, guy says I got a rejection text on original SIM which I wasn't using(specifically asked for reply on my number). Rejection text said need to wait 6 months, which he says is wrong because it's payg. He asked where I bought it, put me on hold and came back with an apology and the unlock code which worked fine.

Shop I bought it from stated I would need to wait 6 months as well. The online form stated free but the email reply says it'll cost 8.99. All in all a bit of a joke company, but got there in the end.

I was very impressed with the phone as well when I used it. Though nothing that uses HTTPS (every registration form lol) will work until play services and web view are updated.

I think you're all being unfeasibly tight on yourselves, seriously, I bought mine in an EE shop & had it unlocked that same day....for €4 (about £3.50)...no delay or the pain of having to deal with many EE staff/teams/departments all giving different versions of what has to be done to get an unlock code ...just use dc-unlocker
PRENDY
20 Jan 17 #256
does this phone have a official case
hunsbury0

Its not being tight but in my case, I didn't feel confident to do it. I am not technical as some. Would have paid to get a straight forward code from ebay etc.

it's does, but it's not leather as advertised, I got fingernail marks on it opening the packet, and it doesn't even unlock/lock the phone when you open /close it.

Not that cheap either. Only upside is it like the slimmest of them all.

Not being cheap, not everyone has the savvy to use dc unlocker. I've used it loads over the years, but when I looked at this phone's instructions I decided to wait.

Same with me. You try to tear the back of the cardboard as indicated and the case is right up against it so it's very easy to scratch.

Not the best case. The cheapest I could find on eBay was about £11.50, but I wouldn't recommend it at that price. Quality is only average for an official case.

Also find the phone very good for the money.
