Screen is a deal breaker for me unfortunately.
I could live with 8Gb less RAM or HDD but 1366 x 768 just completely ruins it.
There is a 1080p i7 version for £599 although 2 cell battery.

this is a SSD hard drive! 3 years ago 500gb SSD hard drive must be at least £200-250 on its own without a laptop attached to it! So you should know what you are talking my friend...

256gb storage? My old laptop had 500gb and was about £150 cheaper 3 years ago.

That would have been a hard disk drive rather than solid state. Solid state drives are considerably better and also more expensive

As others have said the resolution is the letdown, anything less than full HD is useless whether they fit a SSD, whatever the RAM., CPU etc, I can`t understand why they keep doing it. Voted icy cold! No bargain

It's utterly painful and ridiculous, but for laptop manufacturers it appears to the last bastion of hope to up-sell consumers to higher end models. It's almost like a secret pact to stop 1080p becoming industry standard on laptops!
There's very little happening on the CPU front and SSD drives alleviate the pains of a slow computer. That just leaves the gaming GPU which 'John & Margaret' don't really care about. Eventually it will happen... but good grief it's taking years!

Yes; well maybe. To even get the ordinary user to buy a laptop must be problematic at the moment. He`s got a tablet or two, a phone with internet access , why should he get a laptop.Oh, the picture is bigger, must be better. Then he realises the resolution is no better than is tablet or even worse, so he needs to upgrade.
If manufacturers are so logical
My theory is that someone in China is making hundreds of thousands of dirt cheap 1366 x 768 displays!

1080p absolutely needs to be the minimum resolution on a laptop, it is crazy to have cheap £50 smartphones 1/5 the size with more pixels on the screen. Total madness, for this reason alone this laptop should not be purchased.

Couldn't agree more.
A little 4-5 inch phone has hd screen and laptop with 15-16 inch screen don't it just doesn't make sense.
The more resolution means more space on your screen to work on your applications and I am sure you will see the difference when photo editing or video editing. Watching movies will be better too.
Apart from the screen it seems like a good deal op.
Just wish the software developers make software that is auto adapted to what ever the ram, cpu etc you have.

if the display size fits your needs then this is a very good deal. My wife's laptop is about 7 years old and has same resolution as the one posted. She's more than happy with it and would not care if it was full HD or not as all she does is browse the web.

Yes my thoughts entirely..... there's clearly someone out there making the most out of the factory they've got and flooding the market with these screens for probably a few dollars each. Laptop manufacturers make so little profit that they'll use the crappiest of screens but bung in a decent spec knowing the CPU, memory and storage is usually what people will compare when buying.
All the 1366x768 HP screens I've used on fairly recent laptops are pretty wishy washy as well as being this lower resolution.

The only benefit of 1366x768 panels is that when you break them in anger at the low contrast, weak colour saturation and massive pixels you can pick up a replacement for about £15 on eBay! In seriousness though, they're just being mass produced they have literally flooded the market.
