A 1366x768 display and an i7 CPU...that's an interesting choice of components, HP.
An SSD and a 1080p display are, in my opinion, mandatory for a laptop at this price point nowadays. Whilst this does have an SSD, with no DVD drive to replace with a HDD caddy 256GB of storage could be quite limiting unless you have little locally stored content. Also, the vast majority of people won't see any advantage to having an i7-6xxxU CPU over a cheaper i5-6xxxU CPU.
Whilst this isn't a bad laptop, it would serve most people's needs acceptably, it has a poorly balanced choice of components for a £450 machine.

Bought HP before & it only keep charge for 2&half hours and lost all battery when closed down in as little as 36 hours ,theie a nightmare oncustomer service so I just kept it and its just laying usless now ,rotten company ;needs brillant rewiews!

Ahh well, I wouldn't worry about it now; another deal for an i5/8GB RAM (or 4GB, RAM is another easy upgrade)/1TB HDD/1080p display laptop will be along sooner or later. I suspect we'll see a few in the January sales. :smiley:

I saw that too, was thinking of creating another post for it. It depends on what people want to do with it to which CPU would be a better option.

No, that does seem very poor value. Either way both of them are just dual-core with HT, and the i7 only scores about 9% more in passmark:
Intel Core i5-6200U @ 2.30GHz 3,912 (1,497)
Intel Core i7-6500U @ 2.50GHz 4,296 (1,639)
Guess Intel know how to get people to easily part with their cash though.

My thoughts exactly. I'm going for the Lenovo at Currys. Yes, it's i5 and no SSD, but it's £379 and SSDs cost little relatively speaking.

USB dvd is so cheap you don't need a dvd, but I wouldn't like the old screen supplied.

I'd say that a laptop where the only problem is a HDD rather than an SSD is worth buying. As long as it has a DVD drive, which seem to me more commonly missing on laptops which come with an SSD from the factory, you can put the HDD in a caddy where the DVD drive was and then put your own SSD where the HDD was originally installed.
Problem solved, SSD boot drive and a HDD for mass storage. All for a reasonable price as your only extra costs were a sub-£10 HDD caddy and a relatively low capacity SATA SSD.

I have to agree with this. Seems like a half decent laptop but the choice of SSD, 8GB, i7 but then a 'HD ready screen' seems odd. Nearly bit on a laptop on black friday but held off, looks like New Year sales might be best now.
There was the Asus at PC World that looked good, half decent CPU, 8GB Ram, Full HD screen, but then had a mechanical HDD. I think I might just want too much for my budget, £600 laptop specs for £350 price.....

Clearly a combination of an extra 1MB of cache and a 200Mhz base (300Mhz boost) clock increase aren't doing a great deal even when applied together...

A ~9% better score on Passmark makes sense, the main difference between the i5 and the i7 is that the i7 has an extra 300Mhz of boost clock speed (3.1Ghz); a ~10% increase over the i5 (2.8Ghz).
Honestly, the "U" class i7 processors are a marvel in marketing over substance. The machines they're installed in tend to cost significantly more than equivalent machines with a "U" class i5 from the same processor generation, yet the i7 machines offer very little in the way of extra performance for the money.
