I went to work today, my wife promised to spruce the place up a bit. Came back and found 6 of these in the living room alone...

How long would you say a spruce will last?
Had a fir tree last year and was very happy with it - lasted 5 weeks from last week of Nov through the New Year

I've been looking into getting a real tree - left it too late last year. There was a man talking on 'This Morning' today about Christmas trees (he sells them). He said that a Norway Spruce (if watered enough) will last for 2/3 weeks and a Nordman Fir or Noble Fir will last for around 5 weeks. He also stated that the Norway Spruce drops needles easily, whereas the other two are better at keeping their needles.

So you advise people to buy something made using chemicals in a factory and that will take 2 million years to degrade....

Don't buy a spruce they REALLY drop and very sharp little needles. The dearer trees are better.

Yes the needles are Sharp and can really hurt if the get in your feet. I agree, go for the live trees as they don't drop and guaranteed to last

The pot grown trees are alive and don't drop. Mine from last year is still alive and in the garden. They cost much more but it's worth it. Homebase are excellent for Xmas trees

Ikea deal better. Not "from £10" went to homebase, 6ft tree was £50.
Ikea deal £25 tree with free £20 ikea voucher, effecitively costing £5 for the tree... and all trees are same price. 6ft tree was very nice.
So cold from me, as an equivalent Homebase tree for me would be £50.00 not a good deal.

Maybe they are Nordmann Fir's, £60 is probably average for a good full 6ft trimmed tree that will last the month and fragrance your home,

This is true. A fake tree has a carbon footprint approximately 10x greater than commercially produced real trees. Its far better for the environment to buy real.

I got a tree from Homebase last year, it was bald by Christmas day, it was a nordmann fit, this I've done some research, I've bought a Frasier fir from a garden centre, checked it was fresh, the needles will bounce back when bent in the opposite direction also the trunk will be moist, cut off 5cm of the trunk, place in water, it smells divine, I've tried all varieties over.the years, Frasier fir is the highest recommended, it cost me £37 for a 6ft one, stay clear of a spruce

Nice find OP.
Went to our local Homebase and there was 42 in stock this afternoon, we spoke to someone there who pointed us in the right direction, but wasn't labelled up with the price. Paid at checkout £10 and been put up outside this afternoon, looks great.
