So much bull**** surrounding the HDR fiasco.

In a nutshell, It's a wider contrast range and the 'standard' for this contrast range is still up in the air.

A 4k TV is a 4K TV, there is no difference in clarity provided by HDR or increase in resolution.

If you need a TV just buy one that fits your budget. They'll be pushing a new standard to try and get you plebs all rustled and buying new TVs in another 12 months anyways.

Heat for the deal, I'd buy this TV today if I was in the market for one.

Do not have the satellite tuner or included air mouse options with my set. Came with 8 glasses instead of 4. This is the model though.

To be honest that sounds a perfectly reasonable assessment. They score higher for me as I wanted passive 3D and hate active 3D. The model I have is; 49UT3E310B-T which I've had almost a year. Directly compared to this Hisense model it scores higher in some areas but weaker in others.

When I replace it, it looks like I will have to buy a LG now as the only company it seems still supplying new models with passive 3D. I guess they aren't selling their panels to other companies nowadays or have priced them too high.

Finlux, magazine reviews are, on various models, reasonable TV's for the money but lack some features especially in 4K, so probably on a par with Hisense or lower.

Hisense are definitly not vestel , there have been serious number of threads here on these tvs its suprising you are blind to the fact that hisense have their own couple of manufacturing facilities in the eu , they make their own panels plus they are oem's for others, they are after all the 3/4 biggest Tv manufacturer in the world .

That list you are reproducing here word for word from badcaps.net forum has got this make obviously wrong

I honestly think choosing a tv is more about reviews and spec nowadays. You see information about the samsung panel lottery and some sets performing poorly at high end pricing or performing very well at lower end pricing. My Finlux has a fairly respectable quad core logic board and a decent LG passive 3D panel and performs very well. Another Vestel set may only have a dual core logic board or a different much inferior panel. Same with the big brands who may use a weaker panel or logic board to meet a price point. I' ve seen Samsung's in shops with poor back light uniformity or other issues with the screen. My own experience with a Samsung was a 720p plasma tv which developed a fixed red pixel in the middle of the screen about 2 hours after setting up and had to go back.

Case in point the Hisense models which generally are great value and have very good build quality but their recipe or choice of parts can vary quite a lot in quality and you still have to be careful to make sure you get the right logic board and panel to get best performance. You can't just blindly choose randomly.

No one is going to object to budget brand TVs at good value prices. The main objection is premium brands like Panasonic badging up substantially inferior products as something they are not. Their use of plastic chrome is particularly vile. I have a Samsung D8000 which is a very different viewer/user/quality experience to a budget TV. No it was not cheap but if they replaced it wi some nasty, slow, clunky, dull product I wouldn't be too chuffed

There is an easy way to tell where the TV comes from, if it says made in Turkey it is Vestel, if it says made in PRC it is Hisense. Not sure if the Mexican ones are sent here as they have a different standard.

I don't think they are at all and many of the brands on your list are not consistently Vestel and some have moved away from Vestel.

I had an excellent Polaroid 3D tv which I sold when I upgraded but it had nothing to do with Vestel. It had made in China on the back. It admittedly looked like a Vestel because it shared the same configuration of ports because it had the same chinese logic board as some Vestels.

You have to remember the logic boards are all coming form China so a Vestel and Hisense could have the same logic board but then pretty much everything else can be different.

Also I might add Panasonic have consistently been no.1 for reliability according to Which reliability surveys but a large percentage of their sets sold in Europe and the UK are Vestel.

The Vestel megafactory in Turkey is absolutely amazing.

I know Vestel get a lot of stick but my Finlux is absolutely amazing and at a fantastic price. I wanted a reasonable priced 4k tv with passive 3D (can't stand active 3D) and it was pretty much Finlux, Techwood or LG and LG was a lot dearer and had horrible input lag. Finlux was a better deal than the other Vestel brand 'Techwood'.

Everything works great on it, dlna, 4k youtube, 3d youtube, bluetooth, wireless display and its very fast to operate with its quad core processor.

Your understanding or at least wording is in question. You use the term 'colour range' but your not referring to the range of colours you are referring to the minimum and maximum value. This is already a confusing issue for some and you certainly aren't helping here. I state again that this tv with its 8bit panel (less graduations), low luminosity (250 cd/m2) but reasonable contrast ratio (4000:1) is not what could be described a HDR set.

Going by the definition of what a HDR set should achieve according to the aims of the standard.

Reference HDR displays should deliver increased brightness and darker shadows with a precision of luminance
steps avoiding objectionable artifacts. It is insufficient to just raise backlight power causing increased black level,
as greater dynamic range is essential. Simultaneous contrast as presented to the viewer is the most relevant
measure of increased capabilities. The intended use of reference HDR displays is to provide consistency between
production and broadcast facilities. Defining the characteristics of reference displays is essential.

This hisense set does not deliver increased brightness or a precision of luminance steps so it can not achieve your wide colour gamut because of limited brightness and the graduations are larger leading to possible objectionable artifacts.

Good find OP. Good reviews from owners. As for Vestel - is this specific TV a Vestel? Lots of talk of trusted brands being rebadged Vestel units. This may be true, but for all their good intentions the dissenting voices are muddying the water. For info the link attached shows a head to head between this TV and a similar (competitor) Vestel model. http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/91ebc6b9

Hisense TVs are definitely Vestel
BigVern1984
12 Dec 16 #109
These are all completely technologies and none of them were "made" for each other. So you don't need any of them together for them to be "true". 10bit was around even before HD TVs! HDR is just a new colour gamut standard for the video industry. And brightness is just based on what hardware is being used. All can improve the image but all are totally independent. Sorry but you don't have a great understanding of how this tech works, adding more shades of colour (bits), will not give you an increased colour range (gamut). It will however give you a smoother transition (colour banding) of you existing range.

You say nothing to do with the colour range but a 10bit panel has 30bit colour which is 1024x1024x1024 which is a colour range of over a billion compared to the 16 million of an 8bit panel.

The true hdr panels all seem to be 10bit and have greater luminance. My Finlux tv has an LG 3D panel which has luminance of 400 cd/m2 but only a contrast ratio of 1200:1 this Hisense has a luminance of 250 cd/m2 much lower than my tv but a contrast ratio of 4000:1. However true hdr panels are surely up at 700 cd/m2 plus. Just don't see how this can qualify as hdr with limited luminance and an 8bit panel. Again I'm not bothered about HDR myself after seeing demonstrations but for those who want it done properly I believe Hisense do offer better HDR sets within their sub £1000 range.

Its worth noting that majority of budget tv sets are in fact manufactured or derived from and assembled under licence designs by UMC and massive Turkish TV maker Vestel. The brand you see on the front of the TV does not match the cheap gubbins inside. Panasonic hived off their budget products to this process with 48" 4k Panasonic model for as little as £379. Customers only discover its nothing of the sort when they attempt to program their Sky remote control only to discover that said Panasonic code wont work and they have to use a Vestel one. Hitachi branded TVs at Argos same applies. Hitachi ended TV manufacture in 2012. I only site these examples to alert buyers to do their research. Space here limits me to show many more examples of this process.

Personally I think everyone is far too hung up on 8/10 bit HDR...I think a better quality upscaling chipset is WAY more important with the limited amount of 4K/HDR content people will be watching for some years to come.

Even with Netflix/Amazon/Sky in my home my TV still has to deal with a surprising amount of SD content let alone HD hence the reason I ensured it dealt well with SD content as much as HD and 4K before buying.

Buy a TV for the picture quality on the content you most watch, not because of the numbers it has on a sticker..

HDR pulls out the shadows, hi-lights, etc to give the image a greater depth of colours and range. 10bit bit on the other hand does not increase the hi and low range at all, it add more steps of colour between the already existing shades of colour, nothing to do with increased colour range! Say you have a image of a blue sky, the 10bit panel will have a smoother blue gradient as it has more steps of colour (banding). In truth only professional grade monitors with hi-res 10bit images sometimes need a 10bit panel, you will never notice the difference on a tv, maybe with high bitrate 4K blue ray, even then your need to really know what to look for. Adding 10bit to TVs in mainly marketing, but HDR makes a big difference.

You're right, I think what it boils down to is a 10 bit panel is capable of a hugely superior variety of colours and HDR is capable of superior blacks and whites. Like I said though I'm still confused as to the differences and could be totally wrong.

But people thinking they are buying a 4K TV that is advertised as 4K,are getting a 4K TV.

Every TV that is advertised as being 4K will have a (3840x2160) 4K resolution, the HDR side of things has nothing to do with resolution.

So it doesn't matter if it's an 8bit panel or a 10bit panel, this doesn't not effect the advertised resolution.

The price of these big-screen 4K TVs is getting ridiculous now. I'd hold out for Samsung/Sony/Panasonic/LG in the new year, though. But unless you actually need a new TV or are getting a big upgrade in screen size, you might as well wait for all the codecs, competing standards and other stuff to be sorted out, and for the technology to mature a little - there's not a lot of content out there and UHD Blu-ray players (true ones, not upscalers) are prohibitively expensive. (And to the comment above, yes, SUHD is a Samsung marketing term for its tech. All the big TV guys have to try their own USP, lol.)

Aside from that - if you're not bothered and want a TV right now, at this size and don't want Techwood et al then go for it of course.

Agreed in part but there are two competing standards already (much like Betamax and HD DVD of days gone by) so I don't think you can stand on the point about the standard being up in the air. It is very clear at this point that the mainstream standard will be and is the UHD Alliance with maybe the very high end sets really on the Dolby standard as it is superior IMHO.

So true, or even better take a USB stick in store with a variety of SD/HD/4k samples and actually judge a TV by the picture quality rather than the numbers. Its the single item your buy for your home to sit and stare at. Don't buy one without seeing what the picture actually looks like.
If a store isn't happy with you checking a TV out properly then walk along to the next store that will.

No HDR on this model. Yes there is a firmware that adds HDR compatibility but the panel itself is only 8bit not 10bit. So not capable of HDR contrast or graduations. Effectively the same as all other 4k non HDR sets really.

I compared it to my Finlux out of curiosity (mines actually the 49" version) but I compared the 55" to see power efficiency values.

Was going to spend up to 1k for a tv, but now tempted to go for something like this and then upgrade my ps4 and av receiver!

Anyone know what sort of power lead this brand uses?

Brilliant TV for the money. We have a 55" 4K Hisense and it's been great.

Ah didn't see the code. Then agree 6600 is worth the £20 if you want curved.

Personally I prefer flat screen.

some people prefer a flat screen rather than the curved as the curve screen can distort the image.

The $449 is post 10%off voucher (it's actually £499 to start), so it is £20 difference.......or am I missing something?

*Sorry, just seen you didn't take into account the £50 AO code as you were linking direct.

Guessing this http://ao.com/product/h55m6600-hisense-tv-silver-43679-108.aspx?cmredirectionvalue=6600

It is £20 more but this one has an extra 10% off so ends up £70 more.

10 Dec 16 1 #3
Why would you go for this when for £20 more you could get the far superior 55M6600?
fishmaster to N1Andy
10 Dec 16 4 #4
I've thought of one reason, you didn't know the 55M6600 was better, so if you didn't you'd probably buy it. Anyone it's just how you phrased the question, there's definitely going to be people that don't know, most people don't know what the hell is going on anyway.

Have you a link for this?

Great telly. Great price. Hisense are updating it often at the moment, too.
Great value.
