Reading some of the reviews about AO on TrustPilot is a bit scary. Apparently, you can inspect the item for damage, but if you turn it on and then want to return it, they will charge a huge restocking fee (unless the item is actually faulty). Not liking the picture, sound, resolution, etc., is not enough to avoid their restock fee. Compare this with RS, Amazon, or JL, where there is a no quibble returns policy (plus 5 or 6 year warranty with RS or JL). It's available at RS for £799, though they may price match. Amazon has it at £755 now.

True but they do have 9.5 out of ten on TrustPilot with 75,000 reviews and it's not like AO are some backstreet shop if you know what you want then I'm pretty sure your gona be fine

Thanks. That's the exact reason I will never buy a TV from AO; these are draconian conditions and I suspect bordering on the fringes of legality (yes, retailers are permitted a restocking fee but the legislation does state this should be reasonable). Plonking £700 on a TV that breaks down 2 years down the line is also something I won't consider, even if RS or JL are a hundred quid dearer I'd go with them for the extended warranty and peace of mind. Both these companies have sterling customer service. RS even let me audition a pair of speakers at home which I ended up returning for another pair after a few days - no questions asked and no payment requested. Very nice CS indeed.

That's rather a blasé attitude, if I may say so. The law says that a consumer is entitled to inspect a mail order product, in his home, for up to 14 days before returning it for a full refund if unsatisfied. How can you be certain you will be satisfied with your purchase without having inspected it?

Called RS - they won't price match because the warranty is not at least 5 years. JL have it at £899 now. So, it's either buy it from RS for £799, or AO for £715 with a 2 year warranty (Hisense give an extra year when you register online), or Amazon for £755 and pay for their extended warranty at £114 for 4 years).

So it has the specs you require, but what if the quality was unsatisfactory? Buying from AO would mean that if you were to legitimately return the unsatisfactory product within 14 days of receipt, AO would illegally withhold some of your refund, calling it a "restocking fee".
Zarjaz2000
1 Dec 16 3 #25
Oh well. That's it done. Delivery next week. Wife's gonna kill me.

I take the point about being able to inspect it and return it free under Distance Selling Regulations. Luckily, I paid for the home legal cover on our house insurance, and they cover exactly this type of legal situation! So if I need to return it because it's not up to scratch, and they try to fob me off with a restocking charge, I can let the lawyers get involved!

From the reviews, it shouldn't come to that unless I get a faulty panel.

Fingers crossed!

It does support HDR through hdmi if that helps, I've just been watching Netflix with HDR mode on through Xbox one s and I'm playing GTA v at the min .. no HDR as the game doesn't support it but the tv updates it to 4K and it looks pretty good ! Lag isn't any more or less noticeable really than my old plasma !

I still think that plasma rules for gaming but this Hisense was for me the next best option considering the price and size and the 4K/HDR content that's going to be/is available for tv sky Netflix amazon video etc !!

I certainly wouldn't buy this and expect a 10 bit panel. Richer sounds shows that it's not UHD premium capable, it seems like it's in the same basket as the Samsung 6 series. The 10 bit panels appear to be UHD premium capable and a step above ie: the 7/8/9 Samsung series. If this TV was 10 bit it certainly wouldn't be this cheap, but when you see the prices of the 60" Samsung 6 series you can see exactly where this unit fits in.

that one isn't HDR or Ultra HD premium capable, it seems like inferior spec, I wouldn't touch it for 1k. I guess it depends if you want screen size or quality, but I'd go for the 55" 7 series over the 65" 6 series any day because it's far superior tech wise. That 65" is going to get old quickly.

i got this tv for £805 a month ago from AO and am soooo impressed with it - i was upgrading from a Samsung 51" 1080p tv and this tv is far superior, the picture quality is absolutely fantastic, check the satellite test signal from Astra to see what it can really do when fed a decent source, PS4 is great with HDR, upscaling is excellent and there are loads of built in apps like Plex and iPlayer.

Really pleased i bought it, can't be beaten for the price i reckon and whilst i am sure you can get better tvs by spending more that is the same for every product and how many of us bother with ferraris when we are happy with hatchbacks?

No way should anyone spend £1k on a TV that doesn't meet HDR premium specs, would be ridiculous.

2017 will be the year of UHD premium sets now manufacturers know what is expected of them. I'd love LG or someone to come out with a basic 55" hdr premium OLED with 3d and sub 20ms gaming for £1500. Really don't care for smart features, got my Xbox S for that.

From AO Site on Returns. 30 days to inspect out of the box and return. Clearly they want to be able to sell it again if you return it.

If you're not happy with your product or simply change your mind you must provide us with notice of cancellation within 30 days of delivery to receive a refund. We’re happy for you to unpack the appliance and inspect it properly as you would had you bought the item from a shop. However, if you have used it beyond this, this may have a knock on effect on our ability to sell it to someone else and so where the value of the product is reduced by your use we may only make a partial refund (equal such reduced value) or subsequently charge you for the reduction in value. Where you have not used the product and it is returned in the original packaging you will receive a full refund. Your refund will be made within 30 days of collection of the appliance.

To cancel a product and request collection please call 0344 324 9222. We'll collect your product free of charge within a reasonable time from when you cancel and on a day that suits you. We’ll also refund you the cost of delivery. Please note, even if you choose the Click & Collect delivery method, we cannot accept returns to the store and will instead collect from an address of your choice. You will receive an estimated timeslot on the morning of your collection and must be at the chosen address for the driver to receive the goods from you. If an order is placed for Click and Collect delivery, you are unable to cancel your delivery after 9pm, 2 days before delivery; orders placed for next day delivery cannot be cancelled before delivery. You cannot make any changes to an order placed with Click and Collect as the delivery option. For orders with Click and Collect as the delivery option, if you do not want your product, the quickest way to get a refund is to go into the store you have selected for collection and reject the item. Alternatively you can leave the product in your Click and Collect store and it will be returned to AO after the collection period has expired, this will mean your refund will take up to 21 days to reach your account. Our 30 day cancellation policy also applies to any additional services you may have ordered. If you have ordered any additional services for a product then these will be automatically be cancelled when the order for that product is cancelled, unless the service has already been performed. If you order an additional service and expressly choose for that service to be carried out within 30 days of order (e.g. by nominating next day delivery, weekend delivery, a specific timeslot, or requesting an installation or collection within such 30 day period) and such service has been carried out, then you are deemed to have waived your cancellation rights and we shall not be under any obligation to refund any charges paid for any such additional services.

We want to make Christmas as easy as possible for you. Whether you're buying gifts for others or a treat for yourself, any unused products bought between 16th November 2016 and 24th December 2016 can be returned up until 31st January 2017.

Computing orders can't be cancelled or amended after your order, but they can be returned after delivery.

Please note that software purchases are non-refundable.

Computing products can’t be exchanged. Instead you are able to return your item for a refund, and then place a new order. If you wish to cancel your Computing order and it hasn’t been delivered yet, you can refuse delivery when it turns up and it’ll be sent back to us.

stevenmcdowall39

It's the newer model so it is a step up but it puts it on a similar tech level as the Hisense listed here, so you have to ask yourself if it's worth buying the Samsung at £1249 when you can get the Hisense for £715-£799. I wouldn't spend the extra, for £1250 you would definitely want to take a step up and make sure you were getting a 10bit panel with full UHD premium tech like the 7/8/9 Samsung series.

It's a bit like the old days of LCD/LCD "HD Ready"/ Full HD , you don't want to spend £1250 on the middle of the range, you really want to make sure you buy something from the top bracket or else you'll probably find yourself getting jealous of the new tech after just a couple of years.

To show it better you're looking at the 60" Samsung 7 series £1,499
http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue60ks7000/sams-ue60ks7000
65" Samsung 7 series £1,599
http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue65ks7000/sams-ue65ks7000

comparing those to a £1,249 65" 6 series it's an absolute no brainer, i'd pay the extra if I'm spending over £1k on a tv. The 60" 7 series for only £150 more is a much better deal.

If you're happy with mid range then I'd go for the Hisense here, it's great value at £715, if you want top spec go for a samsung 7 series from around £900 for 55" up to £1600 for the 65". For me there's no real place for the inferior but still expensive tech of the Samsung 6 series.

Of course it's not - it is a £715 large screen bargain and not a premium product. If you want that you will need to double your budget ...

As I have said before 8 bit with processing or 10 bit it will make pretty much no difference as long as it is 10 bit capable that is the only important spec.

Really tempted by this as we are starting to need a second TV.

I currently have a 6- year old Panasonic 42" G20 Plasma which IMO has been absolutely fantastic and I still don't know many people who have a TV with a better picture. Will I notice an improvement with this TV on gaming, Blurays and HD Channels?

4k content is still niche so I am not worried about that for now, especially since I have nothing to compare it too.

Basically Hisense released their ULED TVs this year and the M7000 is one of them. This gives u the benefits of an OLED tv but at a 3rd of the price. If perfect picture resolution matters to u I woukd hold back and wait till January and see if the price goes down for an even better deal,if not the 5510 does a good job and 4k resolution. But having seen both TVs at an expo the M7000 shadows the 5510 that's why probably the price difference as you especially getting an OLED tv...

Slow village internet, ps4, pc and HD free view are my main sources. Gaming is important though.

Bit of confusion here, I didn't say they were price matching against AO.

I cancelled my £680 order with AO and ordered from JL for £715 (better warranty and customer service is worth the extra £35 in my opinion.)

JL will price match against Crampton and Moore who have it for £715 but with a 2 year warranty.

To clear up for every one;

AO = £679.50 with 2 year warranty (3 once registered) and code "largescreentv10"
JL = £715 with 5 year warranty and price match against Crampton and Moore
Richersounds wont price match as they want a comparable warranty, they offer tv for £799 with 6 year warranty.

In additional to the warranty offered above, hisense are offering another 1 year once product is registered, so possible may get 6 years warranty on the JL deal.

8 currently in stock at JL!

hey I was born in the city where Hisense is based, their factory has been making TVs since 1960s for foreign market orders only, until private owned 1990s. There is a reason why Panasonic first announced plasma TV in this city, for historical reasons. The other brand from my city is Haier, both of them rooted back when Germany built the city in 1920s. If you interested enough lookup for pictures of city of Qingdao's old town you will see what I am talking about...

Can't say for Samsung but I can assure you quality in general is much superior than southern Chinese manufacturers.

No. It's not illegal. I had this argument with trading standards and they agreed with me, the business.
The customer can inspect the item as they would in a shop, but not change the condition.
Using the item changes the condition from New to used.

John Lewis, Amazon etc go further and allow you to test etc. But they are large enough to get manufacturers to do whatever they want, and neither make profit.
n0chex
3 Dec 16 #202
Crampton & Moore is showing in a black frame not a silver frame as John lewis and I think this is where JK will refuse not the same spec.
qwerta369
3 Dec 16 #203
No one is suggesting that a consumer is entitled to change the condition of an item and expect to be able to cancel the contract and seek a full refund. Inspect, examine, establish quality, is reasonable and provided for in the legislation.

Just to clarify - the warranty with both AO & Crampton & Moore is 2 years. 1st year with the retailer and the 2nd directly with Hisense - you need to register the TV with Hisense.co.uk to get the 2nd year.

You won't get an extra year added to the 5 year warranty that JL are offering if you register.

Visited Crampton & Moore to see the TV. had a good chat with one of the very knowledgable staff members, I returned home without buying.

The TV is very good value and the spec is superb. But each time I spoke to him about the TV in depth there was always a "but"... for example the blacks are black and whites, white but the TV is not 10 bit so it just can't match some of the other TVs out there. As always it's down to the amount you want to spend v your requirements , but for me I wanted a 10bit Tv that had a UHD certified HDR picture so was future proofed. (as much as possible).

For my requirements the Samsung Nano range ticks my boxes as would the Panasonic 902, Samsung 7000 (upwards), LG 950 (upwards), but the price rockets for 65"....

So his view for me was to buy the Hisense 65M7000 (£1034) - aparently this is true 10bit, with the Nano-mesh that give that crystal clear vibrant pictures.....and the price is much cheaper than the equivlanet (£1600). Hisense may be the new kid on the UK block but elsewhere it's very much an established brand.

So I'm not trying to put the 65K5510 down but it does not meet my needs - one thing I did learn, Crampton & Moore
really know their stuff - and as they sell all brands you do get a rounded view from them which is useful as it allows them to translate the lingo across brands.

Off to rest.... my head hurts... then will measure for a new stand and buy the 65M7000.

Can I please ask - how far away from the TV do you tend to watch it from? What in your opinion would be the minimum viewing distance for this TV? Thanks a lot in advance!

Pretty sure that breaks distance selling regulations.

5 Dec 16 2 #256
Distance Selling regulations were abolished in 2014 and replaced with the Consumer Rights Act

The relevant portion of the new act:
Your right to cancel an order for goods starts the moment you place your order and ends 14 days from the day you receive your goods. This 14 day period is the time you have to decide whether to cancel, you then have a further 14 days to actually send the goods back. A deduction can be made if the value of the goods has been reduced as a result of you handling the goods more than was necessary. The extent to which you can handle the goods is the same as it would be if you were assessing them in a shop.

You wouldn't be able to turn the TV on in Argos or Tesco before you bought it.

Looking for some advice here.... I have the Sony Bravia KDL65W955BBU Smart 3D 65" LED TV which was on offer here last year (Link To Thread)

I am quite happy with it, although the addition of 4K, even at the sacrifice of 3D, seems like a positive move, especially at this price. Especially given I have just moved to BT TV who provided me with an Ultra HD box.

Is it worth my time, effort and money in replacing the Sony with this?

All help appreciated

limpduck
5 Dec 16 1 #268
The key point here is "assessing them in a shop" if you purchased from a shop you would be able to assess it via a display model + you can ask for tv to be tested in store before taking away and to check for damage etc. You may not be able to test it in some store's but you can still open it to check for damage. If the item is sent back with no damage and with all original packaging and documents then the retailer can not charge a restocking fee. As long as your in your 14 day period that is.

I have heard the M7000 is a 10 bit panel but it doesn't have the HDMI circuitry to fully use it ... either way the experts over at AVforums seem to think it makes little difference in the grand scheme of things as the 8 bit with dithering seems to do a very similar job ...

Crampton had the black Hisense 65K5510 at the weekend but it's moot since JL are out of stock on that model(that model/colour is on their site) - they'll just say we won't price match until we have stock.

So I broke down and ordered this(via Quidco) after the avforums review - where it consistently scored 8-10 and got a "Best Buy" award, which suggests it has to be a stonking product. My current 49" Philips 4K screen I purchased on Oct 25 is being sold to fund this - and since I like Android TV I'm purchasing a Xiaomi Mi 4K Box as well.

Arrives Wednesday ...

Section 29:
Right to cancel without penalty except under the following circumstances
'Section B'
Where the value of the goods is diminished by customer handling.

Changing the condition of the item by using it, diminishes its value. I proved this to trading standards when I resold a 'checked' item (which was a laptop) and the next purchasing customer refused to accept it as it was used and not brand new.

Trading standards agreed that the first customer had changed the condition of the item from brand new to used by definition.

Therefore value was diminished.
Herc
5 Dec 16 1 #276
Difficult one to prove though right? Maybe if you had sold it as open boxed rather brand new you wouldn't have got the customer return it. If you would have cleaned it up and reset to factory how would a customer tell?

Same goes for the tv, open box ok right? Put on my tv cabinet see how it looks ok right? Switch it on? Now it's used? Ridiculous I reset it back to factory put the plastic twists back on how is anyone going to tell? More importantly is there a difference if there is no discernable difference?....fine if it's covered in scratches.....it's part of the gamble as distance seller to me.....just seems like a dodgy loop hole so unscrupulous sellers can get out of the what was once decent legislation in the DSA government must have been lobbied a bit...
suited72
5 Dec 16 #277
No

Not really. if opening a box and trying an item then the customer handling affects the value. I can easily prove that by showing any 2 products on eBay. One listed as 'Brand new sealed' and the other as 'New but open box' -the value of one is higher than the other in every case and on every item.

I disagree that it is unscrupulous. Why should you be able to de-value my new item if I state that I don't want you to in my terms?

It's my item, why should anyone force me to do anything other than what I want with it?

You want to test it? Fine, buy from a retailer who adds profit to allow for testing etc.

Amazon etc lobby for these laws, Amazon can send any state of returned item back to a manufacturer at no penalty. A small business has no such deal with the manufacturer.

Small business and its employees pay 99.3% of all UK tax and employ 89.3% of all people.

They are not unscrupulous, they are struggling. Business is not evil.

Well your terms are trumped by law unfortunately and the law says " A deduction can be made if the value of the goods has been reduced as a result of you handling the goods more than was necessary. The extent to which you can handle the goods is the same as it would be if you were assessing them in a shop."

Is opening the box more than necessary, the test is how much I could inspect it in a shop do you think in a shop E.g Argos I would be entitled to see the item out of the box? this is where the law becomes unenforceable to me at this point as to inspect it I would have to take it out of the box at which point you could argue that this then becomes used having said that I have had items many times claimed as new being opened already......It seems the law is deliberately wooly and vague as it doesn't really give any clear guides.

6 Dec 16 #281
You cannot open boxed items in a shop you cannot test or use items in a retail shop.
Sure, you can try any demo models if available.
You think currys would let you wall in, open a vacuum cleaner, plug it in, try it and then just leave it?it doesn't happen.

Remember, the interpretation of this law is great for large business. When I was selling electricals to match Amazon we would have to make nothing.
Trying to stay in business and keep staff is not unscrupulous, but that is what AO is trying to do.
limpduck
6 Dec 16 1 #282
I've opened and tested items in a shop, when buying a camera recently I was shown/demo'd various boxed stock.
Herc
6 Dec 16 1 #283
Well this is where to me its worthless as its so open to interpretation, "The extent to which you can handle the goods is the same as it would be if you were assessing them in a shop" how can I assess an item if I can't open its box? Argos would certainly let me open the box and have done in the past and afterwards sealed the box up and sold as new....
qwerta369
6 Dec 16 #284
Indeed, most bricks and mortar shops have at least their most popular models on display for the customer to assess the item, it's quality and whether the item meets their needs.

Additionally, it is perfectly reasonable for a customer in a bricks and mortar shop to request to inspect the actual unit to be purchased, before handing over any cash and confirming the sale.

Since this is obviously not possible in the case of buying from a distance seller, the law provides for the customer to be able to make these assessments in his own home and the right to cancel the transaction within 14 days of receipt without having to give a reason.

Of course, if the item shows wear and tear that is beyond reasonable inspection of the item, then the value of the item is diminished and the law provides that the retailer may make a deduction of the refund due to be customer because of this.

In the case of AO, there have been several reports on HUKD alone of customers cancelling a purchase within 14 days of receipt, having been dissatisfied with the quality of the item following inspection, then AO withholding a proportion of the customer's money and calling it a restocking fee. I don't believe it's likely that all of these customers returned their items having "used" them beyond what is reasonable for an inspection in their homes.

Remember, distance sellers have a higher profit margin in comparison to bricks and mortar retailers, due to the absence of the need to rent a retail shop, utilities, rates, staff etc. They are also aware that they need to have this higher margin to account for potential returns. It's rather disingenuous for a distance seller to try to profiteer from a customer who shops within the law, while at the same time making considerable savings over a bricks and mortar retailer. Rather like trying to have your cake and eat it.

I cancelled my order at AO and went for JL price match at 720 in the end, I thought for 40 quid difference for an extra 3 years warranty it was worth it also I kinda trust JL a little bit more. My goodness does AO.com like to push their TV warranty though 7.49 a month for this tv although it does cover accidental damage etc. Must have spent 30 mins having a heated debate with the guy about the pros and cons of it all while trying to cancel my order........all good fun though!

Fo those of you who have bought this have any of you tried it with a PS4 pro with HDR on at all?

Ive currently got a samsung 55" JU6400 series Tv which i bought a few months back, as much as i like it i wish id of bought the bigger panel and after seeing this hisense im really tempted. Just not sure on whether its a downgrade in screen quality or not though? and id be disappointed even though the 6400 is budget spec i believe?

The samsung had a firmware update a few months back to enable HDR but with it only being 8bit with HDR on the colours are all washed out and it looks worse on the PS4 pro so its better to have it turned off.

Is this the same on the hisense?

If you are mainly concerned with PS4 pro,I would stick with the Samsung but if you are looking for a better all rounder then I think the Hisense image quality is better.Colours are very vibrant, pin sharp detail and good blacks and contrast.I bought the Hisense to replace a Sony Kdlw 829 and the Hisense 65k5510 trumps it in every way.I looked at quite a few TV's and pound for pound I thought this was the best.No regrets for me and I am extremely happy. All the best Tom

Your contract is with the retailer, not with the manufacturer. If the item is faulty upon receipt, reject it. Cancel the contract, the item is collected and your money refunded.

Oh wait, you bought from AO. Yeah, they'll pass you off to the manufacturer and avoid having to even speak to you if possible.

All LED panels have some form of uniformity issue, but you are right its worse on big screens, premium 1500 - 2000 quid tv's probably are checked for these issues were at 700 quick Hisense just fire these out and take the return loss, I wager the quality control is higher on the M7000 series.
