****, I got this tv last week (from Argos) don't worry about the lack of 10 bit panel / true hdr. I've been watching 4K content from YouTube and amazon prime, which is just stunning, my wife even commented on how good the picture was, and she couldnt tell the difference from ad to hd, is great for gaming as well. A right bargain at this price, I paid about £390.
nige182 to TylerDurdenUK
7 Dec 16#27
Does it have a gaming mode that turns off any post processing?
I have all my external devices running through a Sony AV receiver that can upscale to 4K anyway if needed, I imagine that would handle upscaling better than most TVs.

I would like this TV but a lot of people are complaining generally of poor SD image on 4K TVs
Can you comment as that will be mostly what I will be watching

It very much depends on a) the channel you're watching and b) what settings you've used. I used setting posted on the avforums, the main sd channels are ok (the big ones have HD versions anyway), certainly no worse than on the 42" tv this one replaced, other channels like QVC (the wife watches this one) and the minor freeview one (things like the food channels) are still watchable.

Wouldn't it be better to just get it from Richer Sounds as price match for £399 with 6 year guarantee. In fact the site says they even match codes, so you should be able to get it for the same price as above with a 6 year guarantee from RS... Just a thought....

Great TV, bought one a couple of months ago. Can't be beat at the price point.
As for HDR, it's an 8-bit panel that emulates 10-bit, so caveat emptor.

So they won't match the code but will the pre-code price? Have you tried getting them to match Amazon at £379.99? That would be excellent with their warranty.
Also does anyone know what the difference is between this model and the M5500? As far as I can see the M5500 was HDR and this was not on release but has had the update now, otherwise the specs seem pretty much the same.
nige182

I think Amazon is only the two years (one year plus one for registering), but if they agreed to match the Argos pre-code price despite this they might match Amazon as there is no code there.

Thanks for posting this. I've just ordered one for collection tomorrow morning in my local Argos store. As AO were out of stock, i had one on back order so had to end up cancelling, so we have this TV in time for xmas, just in case Santa brings my Daughter an Xbox One S . AO are always nice to deal with though it has to be said. Sorry AO, had it been in stock you would have had my money.

haven't they done this now.... isn't uhd a certification for these fancy new hdr screens now? Many thanks, OP! Tried Richer Sounds, and the Telesales guy refused to drop below £409. So ordered online, collected at my local Argos, and have it all set up. Picked up firmware upgrade immediately, and installed without drama. Really impressed by FreeviewHD performance, but regular Freeview still watchable. Have a little Intel NUC PC sitting under TV, so it is happily feeding a 30fps 4K signal into the TV.
399 - 10% - £10 voucher - £4.50 TopCashBack makes this an incredible 50" 4K TV for £345.
Only thing I need now is some sort of stand, as my glass unit is not wide enough for the foot spacing - plenty wide enough when my 32" Samsung was a big TV, LOL!
kennethsross
7 Dec 16#53
I picked up this TV this evening. Standard definition is watchable, and frankly no poorer than it would be on a 50" Full HD set. But on Freeview HD channels, the quality is more than acceptable. Bottom line? I'm fussy, and I'm happy!
nige182
7 Dec 16#54
I had the same with the local Richer Sounds, quoted both Amazon and Argos pricing but they refused on the basis of warranty, no idea who else even offers a six year warranty so why bother advertising a price match? Anyway, it made me rethink and decide to hold off a bit longer. Maybe even cheaper after Christmas and into the new year, plus I haven't sort out the lounge anyway as really want to wall mount the TV when I do get a new set.

I recently bought the LG from Argos. Very happy.
Be aware though. The 43 is direct lit. Took that back as it had horrific dirty screen effect and lots of clouding on the dark screens.
The 49 I replaced it with does have some bleed near the edges (it's edge lit after all) but it's manageable.
Any TV of that size, in that price range, will have some clouding and bleed. It's just whether or. It you can cope.
Really like WebOS on the LG too. Plus My Sky Q is popping out a 10 bit feed to it. Not sure if it is a 10 bit panel but I "think" it helps that the TV has HDRplus.
