John Lewis sell the 50" Hisense M5500 for £499, which is apparently a 10 bit panel.

Which 10 bit panels for this price range?

Theres some 10 bit panels out there for just under £500, so its not unreasonable to expect a 10 bit panel at this price after Xmas. It would be a hell of a deal, but thats what this site is for after all....

Future-proofing would be one good reason, and when some 4K TVs like this are not costing much if any more than a 1080P set then why wouldn't you buy this instead..?
I can't remember the last time I watched an SD channel out of choice (why is local news still in SD..?!) and I'd expect more 4K (broadcast) content coming in 2017, I hope.

Majority of TV channels are still SD so i wouldn't buy a new telly that reduces quality?

I was looking for a decent tv yesterday and came across this.
Wasn't looking for 4K but just a decent size smart tv and hisense came in at number 2 spot. Granted slightly smaller but still seems to get decent reviews.
Found it online with Debenhams plus for £349 free next day delivery and I was going to go for that as I'm hoping Debenhams have a decent return policy. Failing that you can spent an extra £20 and get from Amazon.
I'm no expert and this tv is for a spare sitting room when my kids take over my main tv but figured all those reviews on Amazon can't be wrong?

Unfortunately not all channels (none in fact) are broadcast in 4K yet so unless you plan on having a 50" set for SD / HD and one JUST for 4K sitting in your living room, you really are hoping the one you've bought for 4K will do a semi decent job of SD / HD as well....at least that's what I'm thinking.

I have got one of these, as others have said the picture from the inbuilt Freeview HD is very, very good but SD pictures are poor.
I have also got a PS4 connected and have not had any problems with the picture.
Here is a photo of the television, my daughter was watching Beauty and The Beast on Blu Ray from my PS4.

But why buy a 4k set to view 1080p content? Could've paid less for a 1080p set and had the same picture. Unless you're actually planning on using it for 4k.

i got the 50" the other day with my argos discount. Really impressed. Menus and stuff are quite basic(but i like this)and sd picture is a bit naff. the picture adjustment settings are very minimal too (compared to my 43"sony bravia anyways). With that being said the hd channels and 4k content is outstanding. i was blown away.
Just my 2 pence. Jingle Bells

AO returns are atrocious arent they? Bordering illegal? Seem a few deals from these, but sure I read they are a nightmare with returns and argos not far behind them. Shame no price match option. Great deal though. Im going to get a 4k tv and put a nice gaming pc together.

No idea what their returns are like, posted the deal based on this being the second cheapest price these TVs have ever been and are great spec for anyone looking a new 4k tv. Perhaps richersounds will price match, they charging £399 and £499 respectively

Don't have one but seems to be well reviewed by people on AO and Argos
Opening post
Great spec for anyone looking a new 4k tv. Second cheapest price they have ever been.
Showing as £399 but seems you can get this TV down to £369 using code GET30.
I believe it was 359 a few weeks ago but that code has expired, this seems to be the cheapest today.
The Hisense H55M3300 can be had for £459 with GET40
1.1% quidco/topcashback available even with voucher

Normal price, so not worth putting up as a deal.
