Picked mine up, today no tools for on-trade discounted orders (one offer or the other) anyway but the (free tools offer finished pre-Xmas) tools are very low quality - having seen them close up. Mine assembled ok & I'd say it's worth the £60 I paid. It'll do - next to my better quality than this (also Halfords) tool chest - which I need to sort out tomorrow from shed to garage!

I honestly think for the average DIY person it's fine just for storage , the tools are rubbish but again they are free so what more can you expect
Yes the pro series is better but doesn't offer as much storage

You certainly made the right decision, if you need more storage space in the future you can buy a roll cab or just put it on top of an old kitchen base unit or similar.

i went for the original deal and was given this not knowing that they gave me this instead of the tool centre, got it home and thought not bad, didn't realise they had given me the pro 7 instead of the tool centre, went back to store to ask where the bottom half was and they said they have give me the wrong one, on looking at the one they should have gave me i decided not to go back and swap it for the original order, believe me this looks a lot better

Must admit the heat is higher than I'd expect! However....
I'm going by the very similar unit I bought ~10 years ago and it looks like it'll probably go another 10. If it's not in constant daily use then this is a good buy for something large-ish, on casters that also looks the part
For the majority looking at this, it will be used to tidy up all the bits and pieces they have in the garage. As long as the garage doesn't suffer from condensation, this should last plenty of time.

I see the website is telling me the "free tools" offer ends tonight
TBH I have plenty of my own, and I'm not sure I need any more!
Difficult time of year - Santa might get me one, so I don't want to buy one myself, although Mrs Claus will probably make sure I get something far more sensible like an awful jumper, or socks.
Still - there's always the January Sale to look forward to

Also the 'free' toolkit weighs in at 2.8kg inc the holdall so quality isn't going to be that good. The actual toolbox is pretty heavy at 26.8kg so just over a half cwt. Unpacked as of the moment.

Dude in the branch I went to today said the cheapo one had less bearings in the drawers and hence wouldn't cope with too much weight well.
jataayu
16 Dec 16#112
This drawer unit also has ball bearing runners though quality may not be good as the Pro range.
Product Description says
"Smooth ball bearing drawer slides"
bigbaz
16 Dec 16#111
Its not just for the fact the pro range has the ball bearing runners, lots of the non pro range with friction runners are excellent quality, its the gauge of the metal used on the one in the deal that really lets it down.
The professional chest that I recommended is £1 cheaper than the deal and will last the diy mechanic a lifetime and is a genuine deal at less than half price.
I feel that the people who gave the deal the ridiculous amount of heat it received were going off the looks of it, thinking "this looks the part"
I'm an ex vehicle fitter but not a tool snob, my own set up is a pro roll cab and a non pro chest which will be the last I will ever need to buy. If you need all the space of the one in the deal it means that you will be using it a lot and it will drop to bits in several years time.
arotabi
16 Dec 161#110
I disagree!
While the ball-bearing runners pro units are far better quality and feel, these have a place in many garages.
I have had a Halfords own brand friction draw unit very similar to this for over 10 years and it has done very well.
I'm not a mechanic by trade but do all my own servicing and repairs to my car, motorbike (when I used to have one) and bicycles. The unit is not in constant use everyday obviously but given how well this has held together makes me think the pro range would have been a waste of money - as it would be for many home users.

Here's a protip for you, if you spray wd40 on the labels and let it sit for a few it will take it off pretty easy, it breaks down the glue, the only problem is when they have thick paper, you will need to scrape it off to expose the glue. Good luck!

Does anyone know if the top hinges up please for more storage space? It looks like there's a fair bit of space above the 3 smallest top drawers but no front access and none of the pics on Halfords site show a hinged top.

Sorry to be the decenter but for most people i think this would be a bad choice. The quality of this tool centre is not that good at all. If you require one this size then you would probably have quite an interest in vehicle repairs, if you didn't then you would not require one this size.
For both sets of people this would be a far better choice, it's great quality and the same price and to me is a no brainer.

I have one of these. I can agree, its not the best but it holds tools. The drawers have a tendency to go in wonky if you don't push them in in the middle and the metal is a bit on the thin side.

I have one of these, just for stashing jhousehold tools - not heavy professional use - and it's mostly briliiant. Biggest drawback is, it's covered in sticky labels that are nearly impossible to remove! With these tools thrown in it's a real bargain, though you'd need a garage to keep it in, ideally. Yes the pro series is better but doesn't offer as much storage
For me it's a good deal especially at £60 for trade card holders
I'm going by the very similar unit I bought ~10 years ago and it looks like it'll probably go another 10. If it's not in constant daily use then this is a good buy for something large-ish, on casters that also looks the part
For the majority looking at this, it will be used to tidy up all the bits and pieces they have in the garage. As long as the garage doesn't suffer from condensation, this should last plenty of time.
TBH I have plenty of my own, and I'm not sure I need any more!
Difficult time of year - Santa might get me one, so I don't want to buy one myself, although Mrs Claus will probably make sure I get something far more sensible like an awful jumper, or socks.
Still - there's always the January Sale to look forward to
Product Description says
"Smooth ball bearing drawer slides"
The professional chest that I recommended is £1 cheaper than the deal and will last the diy mechanic a lifetime and is a genuine deal at less than half price.
I feel that the people who gave the deal the ridiculous amount of heat it received were going off the looks of it, thinking "this looks the part"
I'm an ex vehicle fitter but not a tool snob, my own set up is a pro roll cab and a non pro chest which will be the last I will ever need to buy. If you need all the space of the one in the deal it means that you will be using it a lot and it will drop to bits in several years time.
I think it is one I can do without ,thanks
Many thanks in advance for any info, Geoff.
Logged in and as I've got my trade card added to my account the total cost is £56.
I can get a further 10% off from work, then cashback. seems a bargain

Back To The Future is another.
As too is Shawshank Redemption.
:-)
I'm catching Flame Deer's all over the place! (Bearded Flame Deer, Night Flame Deer, Christmas Jumper Flame Deer + 1001 other one's beside?), but for what good any of them things are doing me?. :-(
What at all are any of them/these thing's for?, or ..... thanx.
if the tool chest quality is anything to go off, then you will stand more chance getting a 13mm nut undone with these rather than the 13mm socket and ratchet
or do you need to pay online?
Presume we still get 10% quidco cashback on that do we if we reserve and collect.
wish i had space in my garage
For both sets of people this would be a far better choice, it's great quality and the same price and to me is a no brainer.
