I have a google cardboard which pretty much put me of Virtual reality on a budget. I then found a £5 set in Home bargains Your text here
This was infinitely better. although yet again gathering dust.

I must say I have used one of these and it really wasn't even worth £1.

But Google cardboard is rather ****. Especially the "3D porn"
and just cos you design something doesnt really mean you need to over charge for it, (google could of just not put it up for sale at all and just the plans and design rights and left it at that, not like there need the money, and as ebay shows lots of people will buy something at the higher cost becos well they special)
lots of painting and other art work in museums that everyone has free access to, that might of took just as long to do or think up as google spent on this,

Sounds a bit harsh considering they designed it, open sourced the design to allow anyone to make their own, and actively encourage other manufacturers to use the design for free, or people to make their own.
Simply put, this is the cheapest way for many people to experiment with, and help them write software for VR using a mobile phone that they probably already own - it isn't as good as £800 kits, but it expands the market and moves the technology forward.
Obviously not many people will buy direct from Google, and I think they expect that. Having said that, the quality of the lenses may vary between kits.

besides a rip off that google them selfs sell for £15 each or two for £25 (not inc delivery)
i dont get it either
i mean that i understand you can put a phone it in, than pretend its a vr headset, but i dont get the WHY would any sane person buy it even for a £1, much less what google want for it direct,
tho true i have to admit younger children love to play with the boxes / warping paper more than the gifts in them sometimes on xmas / bdays
