It's funny now, a mag "selling well (enough)" appears to be 10000-15000 copies a month.
I sobbed when my beloved Amiga Power closed down, I think the last ABC was about 18000 and by that point it had been reduced to a 52 page pamphlet (albeit a still very funny one). This was 1996 right enough but the price wasn't much different compared to now (I think the last run of issues were £4.50). Just goes to show how ALL mags are a niche business these days.

Interesting point, but the way that I read the article, it seems to suggest that the Sci-Fi mag was the only one that the CMA forced Future to ring-fence, so all others are fair game.
A few months ago, I received a questionnaire from Imagine publishing which was asking my opinion on the merger as a subscriber - it openly asked 'if Games TM was replaced by Edge, would you continue your subscription, move to a different magazine, etc' which is why I raised the point.
As I said in my first post, it's a good mag and I personally prefer it to Edge so I hope that it continues.

I've subscribed for the year as I was after a read for work. hope none of the above mentioned ends up happening! I was torn between this and Retro.

Good magazine, but there is a likelihood that it will be merged with Edge magazine in the near future, with Edge remaining and Games TM becoming effectively wiped out. They are in the process of being assessed by the Competition & Markets Authority Read full story at Eurogamer here

It's why I don't subscribe to magazines anymore because a lot of them seem to be finishing/closing down these days no thanks to digital downloads but also I suppose you can find anything you want to read online instead of paying a fiver an issue in most cases.

They were in the process of being assessed by the CMA and that was only in relation to one Sci-Fi magazine. That's been sorted now and the merger has gone through. Go to the article you linked to and read it again. :stuck_out_tongue:
There is a possibility that Future might shut down some titles, but only if they're not profitable to keep running. As far as I know GamesTM is still selling reasonably well, but it's difficult to tell as they don't appear to publish their circulation figures anymore as they're no longer registered with ABC.
At the moment all of Imagine's titles are being marked as being published by Future but they're still being created in Bournemouth. It's when they show signs of shutting that office down that things will look shaky.
Besides, even if GamesTM was shut down/merged you'd still get your subscription changed to Edge, which isn't a bad thing.

Magazines aren't what they used to be and newspapers are still doing considerably well. Metro is free so regardless of how bias and crap it is, people will still pick up a copy to read.
