As the festive season approaches, Barnet Council is making it even easier to get around.
Next month, Barnet residents will be able to park for free in all pay-to-park bays and in the council’s car parks.
The dates will be the weekends of:
3 and 4 10 and 11 17 and 18 December. The dates will also include from:
24-27 December and 31 December - 2 January 2017. Chairman of Barnet Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Dean Cohen, said: “We all know how busy it gets from this time onwards to the New Year celebrations.
“So we’re really pleased we can offer additional support to traders and residents with free parking, as they enjoy preparing for the festive season during the weekends.”
“We’re making it even easier for our residents and visitors to move around the borough’s many high streets to find everything they need.”
Nice thought but councils wouldn't because they won't be making any money then.

Barnet is the name of the borough as well as the town.
Depending on your Barnet; you can have High Barnet,East Barnet,Chipping Barnet or New Barnet.
There's a small shopping centre in High Barnet and some shops in the other Barnets.
If Kosher is your thing, head down towards Finchley.
For a larger variety of shops and bigger stores, head for Brent X.
Parking is free there anyway,so no need to make use of the free parking.:D

Quite a few of the car parks must be either free or closed on Sundays anyway judging by Monday-Saturday tariffs quoted on their website.
A positive move nonetheless - maybe they wanted to save on traffic enforcement overtime

That's happened in so many towns, local to me its happened. Build a Shopping complex with loads of free parking and then price rise on parking in town and moan that all the shops have closed.. ha.

Not bad but the very least they could do since they decided not to scrap parking charges in Barnet Spires effectively killing the high street there. These archaic councillors and there backwards thinking.
