Hi Elizabeth0103, Just had a look on Morrisons facebook page and it looks to be avaliable to people 60+. Hope this helps

Why not take a hot drink and a pie to the cold and hungry living on the streets?

That's much better than the original comment. Morrisons (and M&S) are delivering over 5 tonnes of unwanted food to homeless people in London this December, I'm not sure if other cities are also a part of the initiative, but at least it's a start.
Might be worth Googling to see what other schemes they have provided for the homeless, too

I have just donated best part of a weeks shopping to the local food Bank.some people are suffering in this country through no fault of their own, disgraceful in a rich country like the UK!
luvsadealdealdeal
5 Dec 16#11
and some are suffering through being bone idle and preferring the easy life to hard work, they refused the education opportunities offered to them (and probably were unlucky enough to have had rubbish parents)

£12.3 billion to developing countries ? By the way it used to be 'overseas aid' . What about 250,000 homeless in the UK ?

hey. dumb reply.
try studying when you have a home where your dad beats up the family and behaves maniac-like most of the day.
And you know despite that, I've rarely claimed benefits. But as it happens, after getting some great Oxbridge style grades by teaching myself and a place at a top med school without enjoying the usual benefits and support, I in the end could eventually no longer afford to pay to go anymore because I don't have a parent like yours.
And you know what< I was so shellshocked from no longer being able to afford my place that I now AM on benefits for a while, because I been destroyed by lack of support you don't have to suffer.

'some' doesn't mean 'all' - why do you think I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth? - I wasn't
I created my money with hard study & hard work (plus I guess my parents were not really below average so I was lucky there as well)

To be honest I think he just means there are people at both ends of the spectrum - some have been dealt a really bad hand while others have wasted opportunities offered to them.

Seniors only ?
So people under a certain age can't get this offer ?
Is that not illegal - discrimination on the grounds of age

And many of the people you dismiss as being idle and feckless are suffering from mental illness and instead of the help that should be there they find themselves on the streets. Homelessness in the UK has increased by 30% in the last 12 months alone. What a caring country this currently is!

I don't think that Morrisons are stopping non-seniors buying things from them (that would be discrimination), they are just not giving non-seniors mincies and tea! They can choose the objects of their affections, but not discriminate against protected groups (age, religion, sex etc.) by restricting those they do business with.
Last time I looked there were big holes in the arguments of those criticising 'scroungers' (search for 'guardian benefits scroungers'). Generally it's the case that people receiving benefits are those the benefits are aimed at, there aren't too many 'idle and feckless'.

Good on you. Much better doing that than giving to beggars who in my experience are neither hungry nor homeless. Know for a fact that several here are collected by a people carrier from their homes each day and dropped in town then get cabs home when they've fleeced enough people.

My local Morrisons doesn't have a café. I can well imagine a huddled half dozen OAP's propped on zimmers, juggling a steaming hot beverage in one hand whilst trying to gobble down a mince pie in the other. Ambulance Chasers will be on hand, I bet.

What about people who are retired from work - and living on their occupational pension? They are retired - possibly not their own choice, but deliberately made redundant to make way for younger cheaper workers! Probably not able to claim benefits because of their occupational pension- (and by the way, a state pension is technically a benefit) Living on very limited income. Why should they not enjoy this offer ?
A family I know has 2 sisters. One retired and received full state pension at age 62. Sister who is 2 years younger has to wait until she is nearly 67.
Unless Morrisons ask for proof of age, I do not see how they can 'restrict' this. I know I look over 65. and I am no where near 60.... Call it a stressful life

This is a post about someone giving something away. How come it gets hijacked for a political/social argument? Whilst I agree with some of the commentators, this is not the place for it.
Stop getting your knickers in a twist ! It's a freebie and that's what the site is about.

Strangely enough you hardly ever hear about age discrimination against older people - mainly because they are so used to being thrown onto the scrapheap and treated as invisible. Maybe this offer was made because a lot of " seniors" are alone and don't have anyone else, so by doing this it might just get a few of them out for half an hour somewhere warm with other people. Remember that a lot of older people are just cash cows for their family, only visited when they want to borrow money or if their " loved ones" think they're gonna kick it and they might inherit something. You would shiver at some of the sick stories about the way old people are treated. Please don't complain that they're being offered the chance of a bit of company, even if it is in a Morrisons café.

Depends what kind of ****, what you gonna do about gad and ocd. Besides this is partly why mental health treatment blows, I know of a few cases where the desperate went to the nhs but were left waiting for so long they lost every single one of their marbles before they could get any treatment and are now beyond help, or tried to commit suicide, or in one case actually managed it. Some things just cant wait mental health should be as high a priority as cancer.
