I noticed that on the BBC iplayer on my Sky Q box that there is a free trial of planet earth 2 in 4K resolution.
In order to get and play this content you will need a Sky Q silver box or a Virgin TV V6 box,and of course a 4K display.
Ok the video isn't very long at 8 minutes long, but who doesn't like the planet earth series, and I'm sure there will be plenty of people looking for 4K content to test on their new TV.
I've not listed this under freebies as you have to be a paid customer to get this trial.
You need a q box it's 100 times better than the old one. £29.40 a month Tv fibre and phone I get it for!! Find someone who works for them for friends and family code

Normally, this be a very good reason to NOT buy into 4K at the moment, but nowadays firmware updates seem to be able to deal with these sorts of problems, but you are in the hands of the manufacturer who may decide not to update for real or imaginary reasons

Wasn't that impressed tbh, 4minutes of raindrops then a big cat failing at lunch and the music didn't go with he piece at all imho.
If you have SkyQ then you have at least the basic package with Sky1 which will let you watch a full length Attenborough documentary (among many other things) via the UHD section in the menus. If you have sports or movies then there is loads of 4K content available now.

Xbox One S uses incorrect RGB decoding leading to coloured posterisation on bright highlights. Samsung K8500 suffers from undefeatable noise reduction on the Cb and Cr channels. So it still won't be perfect on 4k Bluray when it finally comes out, unless you have a panasonic 4k bluray player.

Just tried on my LG OLED - does look amazing. So when is this coming properly to iPlayer in 4K?
Stop_It
22 Dec 16#75
Oh, I didn't know that.
That's just the BBC being the BBC and using 1080i50 (Or 60)? I suppose that makes sense as the format can't do full 1080p with higher frame rates.
cicobuff
22 Dec 16#74
I bought one of the last remaining Plasma sets from LG, glad I did, the 4K hype on cheap LCD/LED backlit sets can drive consumers into a blind buying frenzy. Meanwhile I gladly wait for streaming services to get properly setup and decent quality OLED screens to come down in price and also how the cheaper quantum dot backlit LCD tvs pan out.

22 Dec 16#72
Why can't they just out the bloody 4k blu-ray out?
Jon79
22 Dec 161#71
Even then you'll need to hope your eye sight is good enough to see the difference. The 1080p Blu-ray of Planet Earth is absolutely stunning, even on a 115" projection. I'm struggling to imagine how it could look any better tbh. On a standard 55" it would be impossible to tell the difference but from what i've read HDR is what you really want and 4K is just a selling point to those who chase specs rather than live in reality.
dfunked
22 Dec 16#70
The question is more why are they using interlaced instead of progressive scan... It was the same for the last planet earth box set on Blu-ray. Just the beeb being awkward I guess.
Still looked very nice mind you!
cicobuff
22 Dec 16#69
Surprised no one has commented about the bitrate of so called "4K trial", if it is anything like Netflix Ultra HD then its quality will be only marginally better than standard blu ray which is the maximum that is afforded to current internet bandwidth.
Considering that standard HD streaming bitrate paid services H.264 content are not the same quality as standard 1080p blu ray I would hardly be expecting miracles from Sky Q and Virgin V6 in comparison to physical media.
No one is going to get this at its best unless they have a UHD TV and UHD Blu Ray Player with the physical disc released.
Of course, you'll need either an Xbox One S (Not a PS4 Pro, it wont work). or a dedicated UHD Blu-Ray player.

Only works on a small range of Panasonic TVs due to the type of 4k broadcast being sent so probably worth adding to the title (although I'm not sure how it's a deal either!) so people don't waste time trying to get it to work on their non-Panasonic 4K TVs.
Also you don't need Sky or Virgin either
Biggunspaul to nictry
21 Dec 162#38
No it will work on any 4K TV if watched via a Sky Q box or Virgin box.
If you read this link you will see that it says what you need to watch it on.
If you have selected Panasonic TV's you don't need Sky or Virgin,as you can use the built in app on the TV.

Deedie I agree, there's far too much posting of deals in the wrong sections that goes on. Freebies often get lobbed into Deals so people can gain heat. Back in the old days it really wasn't like that, people managed to post things in the right sections consistently, leading me to believe it's either a.) intention or b.) stupidity.

Lots of deals in freebies require associated device and/or subscription/membership to take advantage of the said deal.
another voucher code posted as a deal. like a lot of them, this s actually already posted in the voucher section, for the past 2 days. In that time, it has got 30degress heat. in 9 hours, it got 220+ in the deal section. that's why everybody posts in the deals section, they get more heat.

nothing personal mate. honestly
just been annoyed with this site over the last year or so.
everything gets dumped in the deals section. the mods and vips do it all the time with deals that amount to nothing more than a voucher code or X% off sale on some random site, but stick a few examples items on to dress it up as deal.
