Argos customer service (telephone) is absolutely shocking! Never have I experienced such bad practice

Buying giftcards with an Amex card gives the Amex refund, but you'd just miss out on the Argos voucher.

Talk to someone on Argos live chat, I did last month and they got in touch with the manager where I made my purchase. Explain that you'd rather not take everything back to just repurchase for the voucher and ask if they could provide you with the voucher.

The manager of the Derby City Centre store is a great guy, he told live chat that he shouldn't really but if I bought the receipt in he would give me the voucher. I took in a print out of the live chat and he gave me my gift card. He was actually generous and gave me the £10 gift card even though I spent £99.95 which of course would mean I should of got a £5 one.

Same for anyone, just ask them, live chat phone the manager and do all the talking. Just remember it is up to the manager to decide what happens though.

I got this voucher the last time it was on and bought two lampshades. However, I changed my mind and returned them. And I don't know if this was a cock up on the staff member but I was refunded in cash direct into my bank account. Something to bear in mind if you're not going to spend the voucher in time.

Making the voucher valid only for 28 days is pretty harsh to be honest. But I guess you just need to make sure there are things you still need to buy afterwards!

I bought a soundbar last time this promotion was on and used my £10 voucher to buy a £9.99 optical cable. When I got home I realised it already came with one included, so I took the cable back to Argos the following day. They gave me another voucher (for £9.99) but the expiry date on it was a couple of years. It was a genuine mistake on my behalf, but still, saves 4p on the carrier bag trick if someone wants to do it!

It's a promotion to get you to shop at Argos again so it's understandable the terms aren't as favourable as a regular gift card. A lot of people won't know what to buy so will browse the catalogue/website exposing themselves to everything Argos sells, possibly subconsciously making people think Argos in the future. And for savvy shoppers there's a way round the restriction.

I spent £99.99 and brought a carrier bag to make my spend over £100, but the voucher issued was a £5.00 voucher. I went to customer services and was told that the 5p carrier charge does not count towards my total bill, but they did give me a further £5.00 voucher as the cashier didn't inform me about the change in policy.

I actually asked this very question a day or so ago and was told it worked. But rather than tempting fate I purchased a 30p malteasers instead as I wasn't convinced it would.

What happens if you return an item and have been issued a voucher? Do you have to return the voucher too? What if you've spent it already!
