Same card as the more expensive non-black 1070 SC. Main differences are that it has no back plate and is a slightly different colour (which are quite minor)
All reviews indicate this cards runs cool and is quiet. 3 year warranty.
EVGA are widely regarded as having the best customer service in the industry. They also have a UK RMA centre which usually means a 1 week or less turnaround time.
Finally, they offer a 'step-up' program. This allows you to (within 90 days of purchase) buy a newer Nvidia 1000 series GPU by trading in your 1070 and paying the difference. So for those of you wanting a GPU now, but eager to get the rumoured 1080ti, this may be the card for you.

I paid 370 for a founders edition purely to get a backplate a couple of months back I dont like saggy cards or bare pcbs.

Don't know id I would go for this after the overheating issues.
I know you can update the bios and get some heatsink pads but it seems like a lot of hassel that you shouldnt have to go through with.

New vbios to up the fan speed and manually installing thermal pads is the "fix". I'd personally get a different brand and just plug, play and relax. I like EVGA (customer service is great) but skipping their cards this gen may be a smart move.

All cards shipped in past few months have cooling pads on VRM now. Issue is fixed.

Don't these have VRM over hearing issues? Who knows if this is effected stock or not. Their fix is to open the card up and install a thermal pad or send the card for RMA. I'd just stay away from EVGA for the GTX 1070/1080 this time.

That's now proven to be wrong. It was massively overblown.
All recently manufactured cards from EVGA have the thermal pads pre-installed. And anyway, the heating issues were massively overblown and were eventually proved to be a non-issue.
Also, please do explain how this isn't a good deal? It's cheaper than basically every 1070, whilst also having a great cooler, excellent warranty & RMA and comes with the best customer service in the industry.

A GTX1060 is as fast in 1080p as a GTX1070 is at 1440p. Roughly. Only a Titan X is nearly as fast in 2160p (4K) as the GTX1070 is at 1440p though, because the demands for 4K are such a step up.

Ok I might go for a cheaper 1060 and stick with 1080 and change to 4k in a year or so. Thx

I guess this can do 4k gaming?
vulcanproject to Mrepg
27 Dec 161#22
Yes it can, but realistically you actually want a GTX1080 for 4K. A 1070 IMO is ideal for 2560 x 1440, because it can do pretty much everything at near max settings at that resolution. For 4K you'll be reducing settings, albeit maybe one bump down across the board.
Nah this is just a lot faster than RX470 so you pay for it. Above this card the pricing of GPUs start to get out of hand though, you pay a lot more but don't necessarily get a similar increase in performance.
The beauty of PC gaming is if the rest of your system is nice, then you can ditch the RX470 in 18 months and be guaranteed get something as fast as this 1070 for the price you paid for the 470.

Wow... Gpu is so complicated and expensive  just got the rx470 for 150 and this is more than double the price! Maybe I should really stick back to console gaming

Been fixed by updating bios speeds on fans and sending thermal pads. Absolute garbage if you think paying 300+ on a card that has been badly designed
Although do bear in mind that the boost clocks figures are usually way off anyway. I would imagine this easily boosts above 1900mhz

Depends what resolution you play at.
The 1060 will provide a very good experience at 1080p.
That is a good idea as 2nd hand 970's were going for around £120 last time I saw. The only issue I see is VRAM but I suppose at 1080p 3.5GB should suffice.

Got one of these, whichever one comes with the backplate. Super quiet and powerful card. EVGA CS is great too.

Did you have a smile on your face when you posted that comment??
If not, then to confirm, it is worth the extra £100.
If you're half interested in a 1060 then I think I would go for a second hand 970 as there's loads on the market right now at very good prices.
