Our compressor one was pretty good over the years except, like I noted, when we needed it the most. In the colder months it would spend longer on and running but in defrost mode than it should actually working and removing water from the air.
Our eldest daughter bought a desiccant type and it does seem to be very consistent at removing water, it also helps to dry her clothes as well...!
For that snapshot 24 hour sale I thought that it was worth a punt. If it turns out to be too noisy it goes back for free as it is not as it is described. Then again our compressor one wasn't exactly whisper quiet.
Yes, but dessicant models like this, work in low temp environments where compressor ones do not, so because you do not need to heat the area, you use less power.
ANYWAY, its basck up to £159.98 on Amazon so that didn't last long. Personally I've getting very annoyed with Amazons 4-24 hour 'sales'!

I got a 10 litre one last year as our house is so damp and its amazing how fast it fills up, 2L will fill very quickly especially if drying washing indoors. It will need emptying every day which gets to be another chore.

The main disadvantage of the DNC65 is its much higher power consumption compared with a compressor based refrigerant model with the same water removal rate.
I thought most advances these days were in the efficiency of devices like this, not in making them use more power !

This looks identical to one I bought about 6 years ago. Still going strong, but the water collector is quite small and it is quite noisy. Not a problem as I use mine to keep the campervan dry in winter, but I'd not want to share the noise in the house.

Had "dehumidifier" on alert for a while now, need a desiccant one for the basement.
Wondering if this will be too small though? The basement gets pretty damp. I don't want to be emptying it every day.
Update: Read that it comes with a hose for permanent drainage. Although I've also read that it's quite noisy, so this is now my main concern.

We need another dehumidifier as our refrigerant / compressor type one developed an electrical fault whilst we were out and it was on. Thankfully the fuse unit tripped out the socket and all that we noticed was a smell of electrical burning when we came home. The filters had always been cleaned and externally it was in good condition but somehow it had failed.
Reading about whether to get another refrigerant / compressor or a desiccant type I suppose very much depends upon your needs. For us the compressor type often would not work when we needed it the most, or at least worked very inefficiently. In the cold months with high humidity, made worse when drying washing indoors, the dehumidifier would often be on its defrost cycle, so not working and just wasting electricity.
I am hopeful that this desiccant type will be more efficient and functional at lower temperatures and as a bonus the heated air might benefit the clothes maiden to dry the washing..!
Reliability wise I'm not sure if they have improved the desiccant type as I believe that they extended the base guarantee to two years due to some early issues when they first appeared....?
I know that this isn't the cheapest one possible to buy but the reviews and comments seem pretty positive and it looks pretty cool :smiley:
