DBPOWER EX5000 2.0inch WIFI 14MP 1080P FHD Waterproof Sports Action Camera with 2 Improved Batteries and FREE Accessories(White).
You have to add anything from for instance super saver delivery tool to make it free delivery, otherwise there will be additional £ 4.75 delivery charge. IMHO spending slightly over £ 20.00 it's still good value for money for this camera.

So your insurance is around 600, did you use https://www.comparethemarket.com/ or similar to get the best deal?
You might save more getting a cheaper quote even if it might not include the possibility of having a reduction for using a dashcam

I missed out on the black one and the silver but have ordered the white one that will be in stock on the 29th to be delivered between the 4th and 6th of January for £16.99 from here :
For anyone who has this, or similar models like those from SJCAM, can you connect the camera to your home WiFi and then login to it while you're out & about via the app on your phone? Like the function of those wireless CCTV cameras.

Good luck using it as an unwired dashcam.
The faff of having to find, mount, and then plug in a dashcam is the main reason why many people end up not bothering to use them for short journeys - or sometimes give up altogether.
It would be even more hassle to try and use this without plugging it in. You'd have to manually press the record button every time, and the battery would only last for about half an hour. And then you have the additional burden of having to take the camera out of the car so you can charge the battery somewhere.
Seriously, just plug it in
Or just spend a little extra on a more-covert device that you can leave wired into the car permanently, without even having to remember to press any buttons on it. That's what I did and it paid for itself in the end.

noticed this on the amazon site last night and ordered it (originally I was looking at the 12MP version then noticed this one for £1 more) got a email this morning from amazon saying its due to be delivered today (originally it was going to be tomorrow).Reading through the questions on the amazon page for this camera it does not have a tripod socket on the camera itself but it does have one on the waterproof housing, it also mentions a timelapse function on the camera as well

I have 2 of these db power, for the money they are superb, got one for a mate too for his birthday. My two are in the cars as Dash cams as standard but there if I want to use them as an action camera. I have done this kayaking, etc and the footage is alright, crisp clear and good res. I have used go pro's too and can see they are much better, but also a few hundred £'s more. The WiFi link and app is a little klunky but can be used with some patience. Batteries only last 30mins or so which is annoying
So if it's just an intro to action cams or a dash cam these are great, if you want special footage of high speed action, low light
, 4k res and longer battery life then spend more, I'm off kayaking in Norway next year so if I've been good Santa is bringing me a Go Pro Black in a few days.

Do these have the ability to function as a dashcam? Seems a pretty good price for the money if they can?

Ref: use as a dashcam, to be honest, I see this as probably serving as more useful than a standard dash cam.
It doesn't need to be plugged in the whole time thanks to the battery - no wires when driving.
8 hours record time at 720p means you would probably get a week worth of commuting recorded before needing to wipe/restart.
Also, this means there is an option to record overnight should you need it. There has been one or two occasions I would have found this useful, but a standard (cheap) dashcam often needs plugging in to operate for long periods - another plus.
Then there is the ability to use this as a run of the mill "action cam" - so it's multi purpose in that sense.
A note which may be useful to others too: I personally receive a 10% discount on my car insurance (with Axa) if you have a dash cam installed, so overall this will save me £60+ a year.
Cheers OP - I have at least sold it to myself, if not to anybody else - for £16.99 easily worth the money.

There are so many of these cameras all in the same design of case, but with wildly different internal components in some cases. It really does seem a bit hit and miss.
Some are really good and offer true 1080P video, whereas others are blatant rip offs that generate 1080P video files that have obviously been upscaled from a much lower resolution sensor (sometimes as low as 640x480).
Some of the ones I've got are suitable for use as a dashcam (automatically start/stop recording when they get/lose external power), but the cheaper ones with rubbish sensors don't. All of them have pretty wide angle views, though.
Nearly all of them come with two batteries, but it's much less hassle to stick with just one, as the internal clock will reset itself if you are unable to insert the spare battery within a few seconds!
This one is pretty cheap though, so it could be worth a gamble
