Not as bizzare as you think as you only have to look here to see some Polaroid reviews.
The Which consumer group (I know they are a bit crap) have warnings on some Hisense models saying 'DO NOT BUY'.
I think case materials are great quality and they have decent calibration options but from what I've seen their reliability certainly isn't class leading.
According to Which's reliability survey. The top three tv brands for reliability are; 1. Panasonic, 2. Sony and 3. LG.
I had a Polaroid tv in the past a LCD 42" passive 3D set and it was brilliant. Loved it although the screen size was a little small. I sold it on and the people who bought it through ebay left very positive feedback about the tv. It really was great but I wanted to upgrade to a bigger screen. No question a budget set but the LG panel really delivered a great image especially 3D. The active 3D tv's looked massively inferior and inconvenient and you could watch 3D for hours without issue including long gaming sessions. The CCFL backlighting just looked so much more natural than some of the LED backlight models that came shortly after even from top brands. I just steered clear of its own SD only freeview tuner.
Don't get me wrong though I have aspirations on a LG OLED tv.

Bizzarely, the masses will trust a Polaroid from Asda over a Hisense!!
Nujol
24 Dec 161#47
Exactly. All UHD TV's at approx £300 this year have all been variations on the 2015 or 2016 model Vestel to the best of my recollection. All have short warranties, some good reviews and some bad reviews, with a lot of variation in quality between individual devices.
ezzer72
24 Dec 16#46
Of course a large TV for under £300 is going to have questionable quality. The cheapest route you can take for a degree of quality is Hisense, obviously LG, Samsung and Sony are better again, but costlier.

If you're buying the elite controller bundle with the intention of selling the game to bring down the cost, forza trades in for £7 more cash than GOW, heat added Neo
PowerPantsPete
23 Dec 16#13
Heat added but just be careful. The 49" tv is currently £455.05 @ Tesco, which is not as cheap as the deal (obviously) but doesn't make it such a good deal. .
