If you clicked here for that last reindeer, don't worry, I did too.
Nicely priced printer btw.

Spend an extra £20 and get one with 5 cartridges. You'll get that £20 back the first time you need to buy cartridges. 2 tank printers are expensive to run, inefficient use of ink and not as good quality of print.

Can anyone recommend a cheap printer with seperate ink cartridges for colours and a integral paper loading tray pleae? THink I would rather pay a little more for a slightly higher spec.. Thank you

I agree particularly as I can change individual cartridges as and when they run out. I have the MG5650. It's slow but good. Need another but waiting for a printer only deal on the MG5750 (currently c.£60). I don't use canon cartridges - too expensive.
Bought my daughter a Canon MP640 for about £140 a few years back and has hardly been used but now it's needed for her GCSE art it's decided to stop working and apparently wants a new print head meaning the thing is now junk.
Not voted but don't think my next printer will be a Canon,

I wouldn't be so quick to refuse Canon on that. If not used all printer heads will dry up and after a time get ink in them so it's beyond recovering - as mentioned it was hardly used.
I have this particular printer and find it very good. Links to phones easily via the app for direct printing of photos. Links to wifi easily and hasn't ever lost connection for me. Always good quality printing.
Had for around 2 years now.
Only niggle is that the paper tray is a bit too short and the paper coming out can fall onto the floor.

"hardly been used" - That is the big clue here. Ink also acts as a lubricant and printers work better when they're used regularly. If you had a car sitting on the drive being hardly used, you'd expect that to seize up over time too.
"Not voted but don't think my next printer will be a Canon" - Good luck, Canon are pretty much the only company out there that are not disabling compatible cartridges by installing firmware updates to your printer. No end of trouble on the other big brands out there.

there's loads on this on the internet - it's a con by cannon to get people to buy genuine ink catridges. Mu canon printed a fantastic photo then packed up and said the printer head was damaged!! Then turned it on and off printed another photo and so on but now has error code 404. So now have oads of i nk and no printer and I haven;t had it a year yet.

Interesting, shame it only comes in white... I've had the MG6250 for a few years now and it's a great little printer for photos.

From experience, I have spent money in the past on cheap inkjets (upto 40 quid) as I hardly print. But if the printer is not used for a few weeks, the head gets clogged and it is literally junk. Have purchased a cheap Samsung mono laser and had if for about a year now. Fires up every time I need the occasional print.
To summarise, if you are an occasional printer, ink jet is not a good option. My humble opinion of course.

It's definitely better than this posts printer. Good Compatibles are around the £20/set mark at the moment still being a new range, which is still cheaper than a couple of Remans for this which could be £30+ for the 2.

Had this one for a year or two and to be honest it has been pretty reliable. If I don't use it for a while I do sometimes need to press the network button but it works just fine after that.

The original poster said hardly used in a few years... that will destroy any print head, not just Canon.
