True.. But do most people buy their phones outright or are the majority on contracts that they pay a small amount each month as if it were a utility? Unfortunately for most their budget is a key factor; especially with all the other expensive equipment having a baby requires.

It's like security, you are are never going to be 100% safe but with a bigger budget you can reduce the risk %. I could fortify my house like a castle if I had the money but I don't therefore I need to weigh up the options and choose the safest and lowest risk I can afford. Hopefully, my laser powered burglar disintegration system will never need to be used, as with any car seat.

​I think it's great that you're advising people to look at rear facing seats but recommending a cheap, sub £120 seat is not necessarily the best advice. whilst the best rear facing seats are definitely better than the best front facing seats, that doesn't mean that all rear facing are safer than all front facing. There's a huge difference between the cheap rear facing ones and the premium branded ones. For the safest seats look for something that has passed the Swedish plus test - this is the strictest car seat test in the world, and the only one that measures forces on the baby's neck. You'd struggle to find one for under £300 but you are essentially buying a machine for saving your child's life should you be careless/unlucky enough to have a car accident. Cost shouldn't really come into it unless you are really in financial hardship. most people have phones costing more than £300 so can't really say they can't afford to spend it on a car seat

BTW we have one of the seats in a three door car, I couldn't even imagine how difficult it would be getting a nipper in and out of a rear facing seat in it.

Anyway, back to the seat featured. Good spot op, I paid around the same with a Boots offer a couple of years ago and haven't seen it for less than £100 since.

It's a great seat that my daughter loves to travel in and even reclines.

*Actually I've found the invoice from Boots and I bought it back when they had the perfume glitch for £56.98! It's worth twice that.

We are way behind in child seat safety in the uk. In Sweden children have been in rear facing seats since the late 1960's.

The seat doesn't need to move anywhere, the child just sits cross-legged. That's perfectly natural for a child. My 7 year old is over 25kgs now (that's the weight limit for rear facing) so she has a high backed booster and regularly complains about her legs aching on long journeys. We have to put a soft bag in the footwell of the car so she can rest her feet on that and take the pressure off her thighs. We never get a word of a complaint from our 4 1/2 year old younger daughter in her rear facing seat.

Joie do a large range of ERF seats at reasonable prices... Tilt, Steadi and Stages are all sub £100; for a bit more they also do the iAnchor advance (which is isofix) for £148 and then there's the Every Stage (which will last until a seat is no longer needed) which is about £180.
The Hauck seat mentioned is also a good ERF seat, for anyone who feels they have to have an isofix seat, and that's regularly sub £100.

Ah right, just goes to show you definitely need to do your own research before buying a child car seat. I do stand by rearfacing for as long as possible though.

If I remember rightly, Which? only test the forward facing part of the seat, they do not test rear-facing performance which is why the 'best' rear facing car seats on the market score so low!

There are many belted rear facing seats that are as safe as Isofix as long as they are fitted properly and

if you haven't got room for a rear facing seat then its likely that you won't have room for ANY seat! forward facing seats need a minimum gap between child's head and the back of the front car seat to avoid them impacting on it in the event of an accident.

Up to 7 years? How far must the seat go back to accommodate this and where do the child's legs go???

I have a (small) Astra hatchback with 2 rear-facing seats in the back, and often you can get a rear facing seat for under £120.

Yes, my almost 7 year old is still rear facing and has done so since birth. Extended rear facing is not a new thing.... its just the UK are quite a bit behind other European countries in their laws regarding child car safety.
