This isn't the same lager. This is Lager was a pilsner and wasn't very good. This is conpletely different and tastes very similar to some of the best German beers - Paulaner especially.

Harviestoun make my very favourite affordable beer : engine oil.
Described as viscous, it's a real solid porter with lovely coffee and chocolatey notes, slightly bittersweet but a really complex brew. I can drink this all day. Tastes better from bottle than can IMO haven't had the pleasure of tasting it from the tap. £2 you can find this is Booths supermarkets I think some Waitrose stock it.

Well I just delivered my box of lager and have to say this isn't run of the mill beer like some of the people on here who didn't buy and haven't tasted it would like to think. This is a quality craft lager and nearly the equal of my favourite Schiehallion lager from the Harviestoun brewery.Very very nice,I only wish Id bought more than one case.

Mine arrived yesterday and I had a couple last night. I wasn't expecting much due to all the bad reviews here, but it was actually pretty nice. Very easy to drink. Definitely better than most of the mass produced lagers you find in a supermarket.

Completely different as in Kingpin is completely different to a pilsner - in the same way that Paulaner is completely different to a pilsner because it's a Helles. That's why it says "Paulaner Helles" on the bottle.
As an EFP member I'd never celebrate Paulaner over Brewdog beers. However this is a lager, not an IPA or other beer. As such, it's fair to compare it to lagers, some of the best of which are still brewed in Bavaria. Behind HoffBrau, Paulaner is one of the best.

Maybe the main players are overrated but I think the strength of craft beers is the sheer variety of different brands and styles out there. I rarely drink the same beer these days as there is almost always something new to try.
There are some great real ales too but they seem to follow a much narrower range of styles and it's usually ones that don't personally fit my taste. It's great to see so much of both available these days though.

14 Dec 16#64
He probably just misspoke. It's a replacement for "This Is Lager" (which was pretty awful) rather than a rebranding. It's not a bad lager but I think the main reason it exists is so that there's an option in the bars for the sort of people who refuse to try (or just don't enjoy) any beer that isn't a lager.
Not sure why people are doubting this. They are pretty clear on their website that it's a brand new beer and they open source their recipes fairly frequently so it's going to be pretty obvious if it is the same beer when Kingpin gets added.
Like earlier comments have said though, this is cheaper in bars that still have stock. £20 or £16 if you can find someone with an EFP discount card. Some places still have Electric India too which is around the same price.

Paulaner is a Pilsener. 'Completely different'? Paulaner is the bog-standard stuff you get served at all the German Christmas markets. It's an average Pilsener, not one to be celebrated over anything Brewdog produce.

I think people are being a bit unkind. Brewdog have opened up the market and made more specialist beers available to the wider public. Before Brewdog it was predominantly generic mass produced rubbish like Carling, Stella Artois, Becks, Fosters. I don't agree with their policies, but they generally make more interesting beers than this, and if you go beyond the supermarket Brewdog offer some fine examples, such as the Psycho Cocoa I previously mentioned - go look on Brewrate or somewhere to measure up which are better and suit the palette.. but in general it's more flavoursome and interesting than most of the slop out there.

Got to agree with most of the comments above, it's an ok price but a pretty poor lager - Brewdog are much better at writing marketing copy than they are at brewing a decent lager. There's much better options for the price.

Well exactly, it's all in the marketing. And don't forget these are only the dinky little 330ml bottles, so you're looking at a price of around £3 a litre for a pretty standard generic keg beer!
