Listen to one and you will see. I have always avoided bose stuff because it's over priced stylised nonsense. For hifi a decent set of floor standers and a good second hand amp will put bose to shame for a fraction of the price. However when I listened to how good this tiny speaker sounded I realised there is nothing that comes close to it for big speaker sound In a truly portable speaker. I've had both versions of this since it was released and have never regretted it. Brilliant for camping, travelling in hotels etc

This isn't quite as cut and dry anymore.... Check out the Jam Heavy Metal. (Named as built from metal) not quite as refined but better bass and for non-classical music a deeper sound. We just switched our sound link mini for one and is only £60 new. Curry's has them so can be compared.

11 Dec 161#53
All comes down to personal preference, spend couple of hundred on a speaker system that comes with issues regarding portability/installation etc, BUT excellent sound quality.
As opposed to a small, rechargeable, bluetooth speaker with good sound quality that costs a fraction of the above.
Undoubtedly the speaker system would be superior, both have plus points.

This is a good speaker if you want a really good balance and soundstage in a minimal unit, it won't rock the room, neither do the Sonos 1 in my opinion and I have 2 of them.
I use the Bose in a small study room (converted dining room) and it's perfect for that, I also take it with me on my travels. The sound is excellent for such a small unit.
The Sonos 1's I have in my kitchen, great when we have people around for dinner/drinks, like the Bose, imo they don't rock the room but go loud enough without losing quality and presence.
I also have 2 Wharfedale 9.1 +lepy amp+chromecast in another room, this little lot cost me £120 all in and completely blows away both the Sonos and Bose which cost £320 and £150 respectively.
Just my experience

This is a good deal overall. I haven't heard the Jam one but this has the biggest sound than anything else I have heard. Of course you can be picky, the bass is way overblown for my tastes but all things considered this is a quality product.

I've got a £1K setup with large tannoy floor standers and arcam amp, so I know what sounds good.
This little thing packs serious punch. It's typical Bose sound (which is good to 98% of people's ears) and goes louder than something so small should be able to.
If you actually need it, it's a decent price. It one of those things that doesn't integrate as well as sonos so could end up being unused.

A pair of Sonos Play 1 for sound quality. The Bose mini for convenience.
The sound from the Bose is astonishing for the size but to actually listen to music I use the Sonos.
The Bose is very simple to pair via Bluetooth with your phone etc while the Sonos can play up a bit if it doesn't like your wifi coverage. I use the Bose in the garden, garage - where ever I'm working. The Sonos have to be plugged into the mains.

I dont agree at all. The Sonus Play 1 sounds way better than the Soundlink - much better clarity and definition. BUT this Bose is much more portable.
In my view, they are not compatible products - with excel at what they - Sonos for audio quality in reasonably fixed locations with power outlets. And improves when you have two in stereo. The Bose Soundlink for portability and is about as good as it gets in that category.
This is a great price.

If any one wants to check out a few side by side comparisons so they can hear for themselves, Oluv on youtube has done loads comprehensive reviews and sound checks. The Bose is getting on a bit these days and there are many newer speakers which are pushing things forward.
I've just upgraded to a Harmon Kardon go +play (2016 version) and the difference is huge compared to my old Sony (which was somewhat similar to the Bose). The Harmon Kardon is more expensive (I paid £190) and larger - but there are many more choices to suit budgets and requirements.
Many people will be happy with Bose but there are plenty of other options.
David23
11 Dec 16#101
^The JBL Charge 3 is a similar sound quality to the Soundlink but it just doesn't have the same sort of refinement and appeal. Being fabric and plastic is fine for the beach but doesn't seem as classy. Bose might have a few questionable products but this one does actually deserve the praise.
For those wondering about Wi-Fi etc for the Soundlink you could just add a Chromecast audio and get the functionality that way.

Its better than my old hifi.
Im seriously considering buying it. As my flat mate also uses it as a surround sound on his tv. Its just a shame its not around £100
Anker Premium/Jam Heavy Metal/Vtin Royaler/Sumvision Psyc Monic (all based on the same insides, just tuned slightly differently.
Pretty much the same sound signature (some would argue alittle better) while costing £100 less
You are still paying for that BOSE name, no doubt its a nice looking unit and it sounds good but there is a very hefty price premium for the branding.
Thoroughly impressed by this little speaker. Usually the price isn't justifiable for Bose kit, but this outclasses rivals.
I have just purchased the Black one for discounted price of £134.99. There are two other colours to choose from! Not just the black & copper. Black one is available for home delivery and AUDIO10 discount code works at checkout.
Alternatively, it does say on the discount code Info that you can request the discount in store should you choose to reserve & collect. I would take a picture of it on your phone just in case they try to say no to you in store!
"Discount Code - Save 10% off the marked price on on all speakers, headphones and soundbars. Enter code AUDIO10 at checkout. Offer also available in store. For reserve & collect please ask in store for the discount to be applied at payment. Not available in conjunction with any other offer. Offer ends 11/12/2016"
The Yoyo kit along with older models have USB charging... prefect to power a Chromecast without being a huge faff.
