As the title for #3 implies there is Infinite amount of realities happening at anyone time, though Infinite's Rapture-centered DLC shows characters in Rapture have been communicating with Columbia across realities it touches upon that the events have occured many times. All very Many-worlds theory, there is no beginning there is no end :man: I think Infinite disappears into itself and tries to be too clever but worth buying for Bioshock alone.
The DLC for Bioshock 2 "Minerva's Den" is also widely known to be better than the main game (that's no slight to #2 either, just its that good).

I suspect this will be a controversial opinion but i prefer 2 over Infinite... 1 is a classic, undoubtedly, and whilst i think 2's gameplay mechanic's are slightly better than 1's, it's still a 'very close second'... Infinite on the other hand... Some of the narrative beats seemed well off, and i suspect the 'Tear' mechanics were supposed to be more fleshed out than they ended up being (the early trailers gave the impression - to me, and again it's an opinion - that the 'Tears' should work anywhere anytime, like how Raziel can shift between worlds/realms in Soul Reaver). Plus there was a lot made about the Skyhook mechanics, but i found the small networks [per area] to be a little underwhelming... PLUS, some oik [on this site no less] ruined the plot twist, so i'll admit that heavily factors into my opinion... Maybe i should get this collection, and revisit, perhaps i missed something (could have been a bad time for me personally) and my opinion of Infinite will change.
OH... Heat for the price, lol

Just to give a different opinion, 2 was by far the worst of the trilogy for me. Some of the gameplay mechanics were definitely improved from 1 to 2, but the story was pretty bland and it had quite possibly the most uninteresting villain of all time. By the time I finished it I just didn't care anymore. Minerva's Den (the included DLC) on the other hand was spectacular. Honestly I wish it had been fleshed out more into a full game.
I do see your point on Infinite, there are just so many ideas in there that not all of them are fully fleshed out to their capabilities, but as an experience as a whole there's nothing else really like it. It's just a really weird game. I'm certainly much happier playing a game that has hit-or-miss ideas in it than playing something that doesn't try to do anything different.
A warning to any potential buyers, I'd definitely recommend that you don't play Infinite until you've at least completed the first game. Infinite would lose its impact quite a bit if you skip it.
