Personally I wouldn't buy it second hand unless it was amazon warehouse which it isn't :disappointed: If you have a diesel I wouldn't get the 400A one and wouldn't get the 500A for a large diesel either. It needs more power for a big diesel but 500A would be ok for a petrol 3 litre. 400A wouldn't be.
When I recommended 500A one it was on sale and they only had a few in stock (six I think). Perhaps they were £29.99 to get rid of old stock. I don't know. As I said I paid £49 and am happy with mine. I would be very wary of using one of these on my Audi A8 4.2 as there is a risk to electronics and it wouldn't have enough strength for it either.

I can't personally recommend as I'm looking for the same as you (for a 3.0L diesel RR) but this one has good reviews on Amazon and price isn't bad:
These don't work when you need them. I bought one from Amazon but broke down on first use. Lucky it was less than one month and Amazon refunded my money instead of sending me to the third party seller. The traditional lead battery car starter is much better even though on face value it looks these chargers are compact and multi purpose as mobile phone charger.

You must have had a faulty one. They work very well. I bought one similar to this and jumped a 1.8l auto zafira that had been stood for 12 months with no problem.

Amazon tell you early , if you have amazon prime. I generally look for coming deals ahead but they have very similar products so don't buy anymore like I used to when I joined prime. They are very strong on mobile backup batteries like this and carry several Chinese brands of the same item.

I have it in my phone diary to check it every month and I charge it probably every 2-3 months. It will kick start several cars on one charge.
checking the amount of charge is just push a button and see how many lights go on.
