fantastic MB.
great options especially if you want fan and separately water pump control. fans controllable by DC voltage or OEM methods whether 3 or 4 pin.
over clocking pretty good.
got a quirk where upon shutdown it will only show the bios a screen on its onboard HDMI only. not it's onboard DP or the GPU.
however it will wake up once in windows.
if you reboot from there it will show the bios screen and everything else as normal.
maybe it's just my combination doing weird stuff!
anyway audio is really good , decent DAC and will drive him impedance headphones with the decent amp they have onboard.
it's got everything and more to be honest.
onboard Bluetooth and WiFi. sound electronics on a separate path ground shielded and isolated.
good provisions for us over clickers with many fans and a water pump. and can plug in additional temp sensors. lots of rules around which fan does what and when.
for example I have a fan near my GPU. and a temp sensor on it. so my fan reacts with the GPU temp. another fan near the CPU, with rules set to react we both CPU temp.
anyway enjoy guys.

Henno, i love the nzxt cases, especially h440 model, have a look on amazon maybe you'll like it. The downside is that they don't have space for optical drive(if you actually need one these days).

I'm actually upgrading from an fx 8320, and I'll go for the i7 skylake (better for future). Corsair 16gb 3000 mhz led version of ram, already have everything else, corsair aio h80igt, samsung 850 evo ssd, 2 hdds of 2 and 3 tb respectively and an asus gtx970 wich suits me very well for now. 9 Dec 16#75
For gaming the i3 should be more than sufficient. The extra cores may benefit you if you do any video editing and rendering, otherwise you probably won't really benefit forking out the extra.
The i3, despite being labelled a budget processor, still offers good performance. In terms of going up to the i5 I've read somewhere that up to the NVIDIA 770/960 or AMD 280X the performance offered by the i3 is enough.
Tomb
9 Dec 16#72
Cheers.
I've been out of the GPU market for a while.... is it worth the extra ££ stretch to go to a Quad core processor like an i5 6400.
If I was spending around £150ish what would be the best "bang for buck" CPU to go with this MB?
Hootwo
9 Dec 16#69
Completely agree. High end mobos are complicated, and most newegg reviewers are savvy, so there are fewer 'Nice board but I shorted it against the case' comments! I've used them to find boards with proper Linux driver support too.

9 Dec 16#66
It's always down to the context of these review. How many are hardware related? DOA is forgivable provided customer service is good and turnaround is swift. If people are tinkering with OC and mucking things up because they don't fully understand what they're doing, that's another matter. A lot of reviews I've seen elsewhere are written by people who clearly don't fully appreciate what they're doing and get stuck when guides fail them.

Go to PCPartPicker and create a build using this motherboard, it'll keep you right with compatibility and give you everything broken down by price.

Just paying for the Rog branding anyway - it's just a psychological marketing effect to make people think they are getting something really good.
The Z170-A or Pro is hardly any different and costs around £130, the reality is, no one would be able to tell the difference between a £100 and a £300 one once the motherboard is in the system and overclocked,

fantastic MB.
great options especially if you want fan and separately water pump control. fans controllable by DC voltage or OEM methods whether 3 or 4 pin.
over clocking pretty good.
got a quirk where upon shutdown it will only show the bios a screen on its onboard HDMI only. not it's onboard DP or the GPU.
however it will wake up once in windows.
if you reboot from there it will show the bios screen and everything else as normal.
maybe it's just my combination doing weird stuff!
anyway audio is really good , decent DAC and will drive him impedance headphones with the decent amp they have onboard.
it's got everything and more to be honest.
onboard Bluetooth and WiFi. sound electronics on a separate path ground shielded and isolated.
good provisions for us over clickers with many fans and a water pump. and can plug in additional temp sensors. lots of rules around which fan does what and when.
