But what about the £20 off?
Does that bring ti down to £39?

What if you got discount membership of Amazon on Black Friday for £59 which is going to be charged now?

If you took out the Prime membership on Black Friday then you will have already been charged £59 weeks ago so this offer from Amex has absolutely no bearing on that. Even if Amex had this offer running on Black Friday it wouldn't have made any difference as the spend needs to be £79 to trigger the £20 back!

Heat added, my prime ended yesterday and resubscribed this morning. Already received email from Amex saying £20 credit will be added in 5 days. Hadn't seen your post on this until I created a deal for it just now when my duplication was then identified.

Is there any way to renew a membership in advance without cancelling? I've been given a couple of month free prime due to non/late delivery this year, which I expect I'd lose if I cancel.

No problem. If you could get it, it'd be there. This look like a targeted offer to those with cards issued by Amex directly.

Amazon CS are really good. You can probably get them to cancel your current subscription to allow you to re-subscribe (I'd perhaps take out a new prime membership against someone else in the household and then ask Amazon to cancel your existing on the basis that you now have two people in the household with a Prime membership).
Having said all that - what I'd really do is buy a cheap course that qualifies you for NUS membership. Get an NUSExtra card and then register for Amazon Student (free for 6 months, then £39 p/a + occasional 5% student discount on Amazon spend/20% student discount on selected Amazon Warehouse spend).

Don't think you'd have been able to anyway — the £59 offer was for new members only, wasn't it?
Annoyingly, this offer hasn't appeared on my card, but it looks like it will expire before my membership runs out, and I don't think Amazon let you pay in advance…

Actually the offers not on my account so I couldn't do it anyway unless there's a direct link to it?

I can confirm it shows differently on my statement as:
"AMAZON PRIME AMZN.CO.UK/PM
£79.00"
rather than: "AMAZON UK RETAIL AMAZON.CO.UK"
So they'll track it like that and it'll only with for prime memberships.
I already renewed at full price around black Friday (as had the £59 black Friday deal last year). Is there any way I can take advantage of this offer? If I cancel current membership will I get a pro rata refund so I can by again with the amex offer?

Cancel current Prime membership. Use AmEx to resubscribe to Prime.

This is only showing on my Gold AMEX. I thought my Prime had auto renewed on the 13th, but just checked and it doesn't renew until the 16th!
Accepted offer on AMEX app and changed my prime payment method to it.
Was a bit annoyed I couldn't use the £59 offer when they were promoting launch of The Grand Tour because I still had a month to run on my prime, but this sorts it out!
Thanks OP! Heat added.

I'm not seeing this as anything to different to the Black Friday deal (price-wise)? Apart from you can do it now for the same price and no doubt you will be to do it again in the future for a similar price. Shame there isn't a cashback deal to combine with this.
Unless, it would trigger that email confirmation for a normal spend. Watch and wait time.

Heated, thanks. An interesting one. Still tempted to test a £79 giftcard top up, or a non Prime order followed by cancellation if no email, but will resist for now! As stave84 mentions, sounds like they can differentiate due to Prime Memberships being processed against a different company name.

literally nothing in that states a reason why you would be cross. Prime states it auto renews when you sign up, that's not a justification for the C bomb.

Why are you cross? Is it because you didn't inform them you didn't want it to auto renew?

How do they differentiate a spend on membership and a purchase?
stave84 to sunpreet
14 Dec 161#2
Amazon membership is processed as "amazon prime" as the retailer, not "amazon" as purchases are. Really cross as we already have prime, and it renewed automatically 2 weeks ago. C**TS.
