That Lagavulin is the Xmas bargain of the year regarding whisky. I have never seen it reduced so to see done by a whopping 33% is amazing. My Xmas and new year are going to toasted with some fine malts this year. A 15yo Glenfarclas for Xmas day , a Caol Ila 12yo for Boxing Day, and now a Lagavulin 16yo for New Year's Eve.
In between all that I have Makers Mark, Woodford, Bulliet, Quarter Cask, Highland Park and Naked Grouse to keep me warm. A very merry Xmas
Oh and there is Clyneish 14yo and buffalo trace lighting deal this afternoon as well !!! Chin chin

Great choices...I literally ordered the Buffalo Trace Bourbon on the lighting deal yesterday...this was to compare it to the Makers Mark (which along with Knob Creek and the great but expensive Hudson Baby Bourbon are my favourite bourbons). I really want to order the Woodford (heard great things!) too but having just ordered the Lagavulin 8 year limited listed here as an Xmas present for a mate it is pushing it!

I'm not a big fan of peaty whisky, but that is a fantastic deal for the Caol Ila 12 and Lagavulin 16.
Good deal on the HP 12 (it was this price about a week or so ago as well)
It is really nice stuff. I bought it for a friends birthday and he gave me some. Paid a fair bit more then £25...there are a lot of good deals for whisky and whiskey listed here!

If you want some Peat then highland park . Avoid the Lagavulin and Caol Ila unless you like heavy Peat. Ditto the Taliskers unless you like a lot of smoke

I've got Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace in my cupboard. I personally find the Buffalo Trace to be a little harsh for my liking. The Woodford is lovely...Better than a number of others I've had, but Makers Mark blew me away. I managed to snag a couple of cheap bottles last year, and I'm struggling to think of any bourbon I rate higher, certainly from the sub-50 quid range that 99% of my drinking is sourced from. It's just lovely.

If you like makers mark, then add a bottle of Blanton's to your collection. This is my favourite sub £50 bourbon (the gold is even better but over £60).
I love the Dalwhinnie. Have treated myself to a bottle for Christmas.

The Highland Park has minimal peat. It does have a bit of smoke, but it's relatively sweet, pretty smooth, and is very drinkable! But for no peat, I'd go for the Cardhu.

Agreed. I've got/had various versions of very peaty/smokey Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. Caol Ila is a lot lighter is those areas.

Bulleit's got a lot of body and surprisingly low burn for a mid-range bourbon. Definitely recommend a drop at this price.

18 Dec 16#58
Argh... Woodford Reserve or Makers? But Bulleit and Buffalo Trace at that price... I don't want to buy two bottles... well I do... or four... Woodford is there. But.
If it had to be one - which would you choose? I like something with kick but smooth yet complex, throw in some caramel, thrown in some pepper or spice, throw me anything you've got, but it's got to be good. I'm not sure that combination exists in one drink!

Well I guess it is all a matter of perspective . Compared to Laphroaig or Ardbeg not as peaty. Compared to highland park , much more peaty. Or is your bottle "Sans" Peat ? If so I suggest you take it back to which ever man with van sell stuff on you council estate. Maybe your 20 fags a day are numbing your taste buds
