Hello Students

Great News!!! Amazon have very kindly decided to share some of their $35 billion dollars profit with us students by giving us £5 off our next purchase

It is valid until 26/12/2016 and is on items sold and delivered by Amazon

The code should have apparently been emailed but I could not find mine. Went on live chat and gave them the link below and £5 Promotional Credit is instantly applied to account

If you don't want to waste time on Amazon Chat, then you could just send them an email.

1) Go here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/contact-us

2) Choose "Prime and More" button.

3) Under "Tell us more about your issue" choose the bottom options in both drop down boxes.

4) Click Email button.

5) Paste the following in and send it to them

===================
Hi,

As a Amazon Student Member I understand there should have been a £5 Promotional Code emailed to me for use between 14/11/16 and 26/12/16, but I have never received it.

This is the link to the promotion on your website:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=11180304031

Per the link instructions I would need to enter a "promotional code" to get the £5 discount, but I never received any code by email.

Thank you for your kind assistance in this matter.

Regards,

I'm probably not even on amazon's radar with returning one item in 10 years but i thank you for your advice anonimousse. I don't have the motivation to boycott them but i have noticed that their CS is less generous when it comes to issues with price and delivery.

My original reply to you was in context to your ignorance and confusion over regulations, law etc. With regards to your dilemma of refraining from a boycott or having no desire to stop etc. leaves you with just one choice i.e. carry on and keep ordering. You don't need to justify your actions to me but figure out for yourself how not to fall foul of the Amazon Law. Good luck.

I think there will always be people abusing whatever system they use its how they deal with genuine returns i don't mind people being banned as long as they have evidence they are doing something wrong. I've only returned one item that i bought from amazon that was afew years ago now and I've been a customer since 2006. I'm sure there are people who have abused amazons generous returns policy but lets hope it doesn't go too far the other way and makes longterm customers think twice about buying from them.

Amazon have forever been known for being generous on their returns policy and it seems that a lot of people have been abusing it.They are selectively banning people who have a higher return rate. How they determine the criterion or how it affects you? It is is upto you to ask the net; try 'Amazon bans returns' and find out for yourself.

I am used to browsing amazon for all kinds of gifts its my go to place when buying items the only true way to try to make them backdown is to boycott them but i don't have the willpower to do that and the prices overall are actually quite good.
hotdealsuk1973
15 Dec 16 1 #182
The next item probably on their list is to restrict returns somehow how they can do this within the regulations that cover online selling i have no idea. But i agree its cost negative for them at the moment so watch this space IMO

It is incredibly shortsighted as the people who are willing to check WILL send it back, as a matter of principle ( i know i would).

It should be obvious to Amazon that anyone who ordered anything that then drops 40% the day after they get it is going to be a bit peeved.
dougrobbins78
15 Dec 16 1 #180
Happened to me too. They made me send it back and order a new one as it had dropped by £5 the day after delivery

Very short sighted as it must be a total loss as I'm ordering the new one at the new price anyway so reduced profit on that, plus returning the old one so they'll have restocking costs and have to sell that as warehouse taking another 20% loss

If their plan is to discourage people sending it back, they've stupidly made it very easy to return. So not to mention the additional transport costs of delivering the new item and collecting the old one; it's no wonder these lot have billions of turnover and not much profit
hotdealsuk1973

They are hoping that people won't bother sending it back and saves amazon money in the longterm. I think its even started happening in the USA so its not a brexit thing or having to pay more tax issue. Its all about the profit they can make from us.

I was lucky with this as i got the £5 credit, but i do agree. Normally they are good but they seem to have changed their policy on refunding the difference if something drops in price shortly after delivery. I ordered a book for £10 and then the day after it got delivered it dropped to £6. I went on live chat stating this and they said i would have to send the other one back (which he let me do for free) and order it again at the new price. They couldn't just give me the £4 difference. lol. Waste of everyone's time. They used to always refund the difference on price drops for me in the past (if it was within a reasonable timeframe)

Amazon emailed me, mentioning HotUKDeals (I hadn't even mentioned them)

Hello,

Greetings from Amazon.co.uk.

Please be informed that this promotion is open to Amazon Student members who received a leaflet at their University campus ONLY.

In the days leading up to Black Friday, the Amazon Student team distributed leaflets at University campuses throughout the UK, offering Amazon Student members £5 off their next order. Each student who received a leaflet, had a unique claim code, which they could apply at the checkout to get £5 off their next order.

The leaflet contained a link to the following Terms and Conditions:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=11180304031&tag=ho01f-21

These Terms and Conditions were posted on HotUKDeals, even though only customers who physically received a leaflet at their University were eligible for the discount.

If you have your promotion leaflet with you, the Amazon student prime subscription should activated on your account.

"I would love to inform you that our internal team has traced this problem and they are currently fixing this for prime student members. I would advise you to wait within 24 - 48 hours as our internal team was fixing this for you. Rest assured, you will received an email confirmation for the credited back of 5 GBP to your account."

Guys, don't give up. It's a legitimate promotion, and I didn't pester - I merely posted the URL in the original post, and the Live Chat advisor replied with the above.

I tried contacting them. They said that my university isn't in the offer (Uni Cambridge), when i said that was surprising, they said it might be included but the only way to get the credit was to use a physical code sent out to the universities (nothing in my pigeon hole). So no £5 for me. :disappointed:

Hi Gang,

I think the jig is up now. One or two still getting success but as Amazon now seem to know about the HotUKdeals post, its not going to be possible to get your credit Im afraid, unless of course you were already promised it in email or live chat

I have found Amazon chat to be abysmal recently. They used to be so quick and helpful, but the last few times I feel like they are always fobbing me off. Last week a package wasn't delivered to the right address (I have prime) and was told that the package was still with the courier and would be delivered within 2-3 days (which it wasn't). And now regarding this I was told to use code "offer" (but not to try it for 24 hours). I assume this was just a way to get me off chat and I doubt it will actually work.

Regards,

xxx Your Name xxxx

They've obviously received an influx of notifications (probably because of this deal!) because I've just been told I will receive a code in the next 24-48 hours. The messages came in very quickly, my live chat person was clearly copy pasting so I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has been pestering them!

Your Account Amazon.co.uk
Message From Customer Service
Hello,

I'm sorry for the confusion or misunderstanding has caused to you in this regard.

I understand that you haven't got the 5 GBP credit on your student account like your friend has.

Please be informed that we do not run or offer any 5 GBP credit for Amazon student.

In this case, we are unsure why or how your friend has got for Amazon student for prime.

We are happy to look into this further, in this please write back with more specific information about the 5 GBP credit.

Thanks.

I replied with the promotion link!

9 Dec 16 #89
As far I'm aware (someone correct me if they know otherwise) you can't do live chat on phones and possibly even tablets (iPads etc)

It's only available through laptop or PC as you need the desktop site

Follow the instructions Paul has provided in the comment above and chat will be a third option available on desktop site only

However, calling them is just as easy if you really can't do live chat.

Yea mate. I think whoever you were unlucky enough to get at Amazon just blagged. It just says it's for existing student account holders and by being in the 6 month trial you already have an account.

If you can be bothered, a quick call back and ask to speak to supervisor because you've been misinformed, and they'll give you the credit.

Thanks for this.

The online chat is a **** to find and it's not unusual for companies to deliberately make it so.

If you click on the link the Op provided:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/contact-us/general-questions.html?skip=true

Click "Prime & More"
Underneath at "2 - Tell us more about the issue", select "Other non-order questions" from the drop down box.
Select "Anything else" from the second drop down box.
Click chat.

If the option isn't there it means they've disabled it.

If you sign up to Amazon Student (Thanks OP), you get a free 6 month trial which includes unlimited next day delivery and Prime videos and music. That's at least some Christmas deliveries and entertainment sorted. You can cancel at any time so just set yourself a digital reminder for just before 6 months. You don't have to be enrolled on a full time course, at a university or have a student card as Amazon only need your ac.uk email.

would like to inform you that it is a referral program.

I am glad to inform you that to get promotions voucher of GBP 5, you can refer someone to Amazon Student by clicking the "Invite Friends or Check Credit Balance" link on the Student Your Account page. Then, click "Invite on Facebook", "Invite on Twitter", or copy and paste your personal invite link on Facebook, Twitter or other websites.

At least seven days after someone you invited clicks your link and completes the Amazon Student signup process, you'll receive a referral credit to be redeemed on eligible items sold by Amazon.co.uk. You won't receive credits for referrals who are currently or have been Amazon Student, Amazon Prime or Amazon Family members.

It only works if you select an item sold and delivered by Amazon. Sometime prior to checkout a box will come up you need to tick called "use £5 promotion credit on this purchase"

It appears live chat are now just escalating via email.
