Yeah I was definitely signed in but it's not having any of it! Thanks for your help though.
I did notice this from the T&C's - "The Offer only applies to eligible customers who have been invited by email from Amazon or viewed on site marketing regarding the Offer on Amazon.co.uk whilst signed into their Amazon customer account and the Offer cannot be transferred to another customer account"
I didn't view the marketing whilst logged in prior to downloading the app to look for the deal so maybe this is where I went wrong!

Cold from me ... app is a privacy nightmare. Even spies on browsing history
Wants access to your contacts..microphone, camera, browsing history etc etc. Ok some have legit purposes (e.g. camera for scanning barcodes) but could be used for other things as well.. It also reads your facebook posts....
From the apps own page on google store :
Account permissions are used for integration with facebook and other social networks YOU HAVE CONNECTED YOUR DEVICE TO....
All that personal info for £2 ... no thanks. Big Amazon fan (even a seller) but not going for the app...

This is another reason I hate all Amazon apps. It's not so much the privacy invasion that bothers me but more the side effects of it - last I tried the Amazon app the "wakelock count" was through the roof - I.e. it was constantly waking my phone during standby to 'phone home' - send analytics, etc. (and it can take a long time for Android to resume it's so called "deep sleep", energy saving mode). It doesn't matter whether anyone knows what this means - just know Amazon apps are worse than some of Google's own for killing battery life.
I don't know about anyone else but the more I hear about Amazon the more I dislike them. Terrible warehouses, scaring consumers from returning items, ditching price drop policies, tax evasion. I've generally found their prices getting poorer and poorer - if anyone tracked some of the black Friday deals a fair few weren't at all "reduced" then hit lower after the sales.
