very good stick but laughing at the no buffering, that depends on how good your fibre speed is and how many people are using your home network

This box is better than the first one, the memory card slot is a welcome addition. I only get buffering if I'm using Kodi. However the choice on Amazon Prime is steadily being reduced, and more of the content is pay per view. I've recently bought a Now TV box with a 6 months Enertainment pass, Now TV box is better for the TV content that is included. Amazon Prime includes next day delivery of course, so pick which is best for you.

I prefer the fist one as it has a optical out on it. I don't have 4K, so for me it's subjective as to which is best. For me the first is better for my needs.

do you get lots of 4k cotent on kodi? i do not see 4k option while using kodi from firestick. is it because firestick doesn't support 4k? if i get fire tv, will it show 4k movies and shows etc when connected to a 4k tv? thanks

Yeah. I have one. Disappointing about the lack of HDR support so find myself using the inbuilt Smart TV Amazon Video app now.

Yes and no.
For 4K Content you'll need a 4K TV sure, but this 4K Device will Default backwards to accommodate an HD/3D TV instead, etc ...

4K content plays fine for me and I only have standard broadband. No Fibre Optic.
simont_space
24 Dec 161#16
You also need unlimited broadband.
I had reason to contact Virgin Media about my account and they mentioned how much data I was using. Average of 750gb pm! 5 in the house, gaming, streaming, downloading. Imagine being on a fixed amount pm.

Who doesn't have unlimited plans? If 5 people in the house are doing that much you were nuts to be on a limited amount in the first place!

You could choose to buy from CEX, thats where i got mine a while back .Grade A and a fraction cheaper and with there stuff it all has a 24 month warranty. My box still had the protective film around it and the remote too.

Right now, HDR is still a pipe dream for streaming services anyway - such limited content, maybe it'll improve soon. But who knows.
There's loads of reasons to use a box rather than smart tv apps - smart tv apps tend to be rubbish/clunky/not updated very often. You can also install other apps like Kodi, games/emulators, etc.
I like using kodi for streaming over the network - the dlna client built into my 2016 Samsung tv struggles streaming 4K over the network, kodi on the fire to does it flawlessly. The built in app also struggles with some audio streams.
With virgins 200 package we've never had a problem with usage. According to pfsense we've used around 220gb in the last 8 days, never had a complaint from virgin about usage.

Had a Fire Stick and got this to replace it. wish I'd saved the money and kept the fire stick as the box crashes allot and has more streaming issues add to that no meaningful amount of 4k content, let alone HDR so no idea why people vote cold based on that.
I use Kodi so the voice functionality is redundant.
But for the price and some 4k this is hot.

What are you connecting the optical to?
I haven't upgraded my receiver to a 4K one yet, so I just connect the fire straight to the tv via hdmi and take optical from the TVs back to the receiver (ARC never works).
Passes through 5.1 fine both on native apps and kodi.

Its connected to a Sony dvd surround sound system I bought years ago.
I have never needed to change it.
You get like a mic you plug in. Then you put that anywhere you wish to sit in the room. Rin the test and it sends out sound and frequencies to set up the delay and loudness of each individual speaker depending on where you sit (set up the mic)
Never felt like changing as love how its hassle free to get surround spot on.
The sound runs off optical.
Not thought if i went optical from tv to surround if everything would pass through or not. As im always switching the wire between Amazon and PS4.
Have far too many wires and boxes....leads everywhere.

Yes, both on Amazon and Netflix, the programs briefly play in 1080P on startup then jump to 4K. I only got Amazon and Netflix for the sake of 4K so I always make sure it is in fact playing in 4K.

I'm not sure what's happening with your Firestick (I also have this, but as yet, not used it), but Firestick (for now at least), only support's HD, and not 4K, that's probably as to why your not seeing any 4K Kodi Channel's via it?.
Which is ironic really?, as I was able to see 4K KODI Channel's via the Windows version of KODI on both my Tablet, and Laptop ...
Either way, this newer Fire TV Box is 4K-Enabled, so those hidden 4K KODI Channel's your currently not seeing, you should now be able to see all very well/very clear now. :-)
Enjoy ...
