Fair enough, but you realise this says nothing about the tablet? sending media to the Chromecast to play does nothing more than send a link for the Chromecast to play directly from the source (iPlayer, YouTube etc.). You are not streaming through the tablet, so any terrible slow tablet could send links to the Chromecast for it to play just fine.
Just saying.

serious question how good is this though?
good for general browsing/youtube etc - or can it play graphically intensive games like asphalt urban and angry birds 2? thinking of getting one for this price, unless i can get a 2nd hand chuwi tablet for about the same price

I'm just curious, how did your Linx compare to the Amazon? Im using a HP Stream windows 10 tablet and was wondering between buying the amazon fire or the Linx 8 as gifts for someone who never owned a tablet? We have Prime so it seemed like a good choice but im wondering how functional the Amazon really is

For those who have this tablet, is it functionally better than a Windows 10 tablet with an atom processor? Im looking at buying a gift for someone who has never owned a tablet. I know these all involve compromises but I found my own HP stream was very effective when used moderately for simple tasks. I thought this being an ARM tablet, functions such as the internet, email and games would run well or better than the stream/linx

Got one on black Friday - the 8gb one - was really just a throwaway item for browsing etc.
However this is excellent for media - have put Google play on it and stream to both the audio and video chromecast that I have - bbc iplayer plays fine and YouTube and kodi stream to the TV.
Just a little bit of work to get the chromecast app on it.

I know what you mean.. I think the only logical explanation can be that it's coming closer to Xmas and more ppl coming on the site looking for good deals and bargains hence more heat being added then black Friday.

Strange, the fire 7 was selling for £30 from various retailers on black friday and never got this much heat. Still a great deal, for £35 you still get a lot.

I think if you load an SD card from when you first start using it and save the apps to that you'll be fine. Trouble arises if you max out the tablets storage then add an SD because it still relies to an extent on the tablets storage. If your not downloading loads of apps though you'll be fine without an SD.

15 Dec 161#100
Even when you store them to SD card it still stores some info onto the kindle. Probably already know this but I would set up a amazon account with no link to any card that way no mishaps and you can always purchase gift card to send credit to the device and watch how quickly it can be spent! Apps like showbox and another one I can not remember will not allow you to store to SD card.
milady
15 Dec 16#99
Thanks, I know the memory is expandable but some reviews mentioned that some apps wouldn't save to the SD card.

I got amazon adds removed for free (this was last year) I contacted online chat after I mentioned about some inappropriate ad popping up and it was my child's. They asked if it was a gift, which it was. They removed the ads free of charge as a kind gesture. Instead of paying £10.

Screen is a lower resolution, slower performance, and different (inferior IMO) OS. Easy enough to chuck on CM12.1 which is similar to stock Android ala Nexus 7. I gave my Nexus 7 away, but for media consumption there's no real difference between the two.

I brought one of these from Amazon last year, came with 4 dead pixels so asked for a replacement that only came with 2 dead pixels. Ended up returning both and getting a refund, just not up to scratch.
Good tablet but Cold from me because I bought it from JL during black friday week and it was £29.95. I can confirm that this one too comes with ads.
But honestly the adds are not intrusive during use and are only on the lock screen. You can pay amazon to remove them though.

I got my sons Kindle Fire from Argos, it definitely did not mention it had special offers, Amazon removed the ads for me when I complained. I didn't use chat I raised a ticket through their help system. It is only reasonable to make it clear what you are buying, of course it was Argos's fault but the path of least resistance for Amazon is to just remove the ads for people who complain.
Hoopiness
15 Dec 161#76
You can still get them to do it, but it's definitely something they're trying to tighten up on. I bought one during Black Friday (from JL) and had to really keep on at Amazon to get them to remove it without the £10 charge (I complained that it wasn't advertised as having adverts). The online advisor wouldn't do it, someone called me and they wouldn't do it. They eventually did it after a stroppy email though.

Don't understand the heat on some things lately here, this and that halfords toolbox are over 1000°
I would accept the time machine argument if it was a long time ago but it was only like a week ago, if Asda had a tin of soup priced at 30p one week (60p rrp) then 40p the next week, I'd say that went up in price, not "it's still a deal!"
EvilA
15 Dec 16#73
Yes, I was unlucky with mine (screen, usb, usb and stuck on update). Had a run of bad luck but Amazon were superb. Several replacements. My problems were that when the tablet broke via dead pixels (bought from Tesco), they were replaced with refurbs and each refurb broke. Eventually, I got a new one from Amazon and no problems since. Think I was unlucky though because we have two and one has been fine since day one.

Yeah. The child mode is great. Probably the best tablet I've found for my little ones though the leappad ultra is also very good, just in a different way. Forgot to add, the Amazon child proof case is well worth the extra.

Got one of these for my toldler on black friday, to stop her destroying my ipad and iphone. I cant belive how good it is for the money
I've got one of these and put the Google play store on it. It's not amazing, it is sometimes a little hard to use, the screen isn't as good as my phone's, the touch screen isn't perfect so typing a lot isn't a great experience etc. But for the price and if you use Amazon prime it's so worth having. If it's the same model as mine you can add an sd card so it doesn't really matter if you run out of space.

You can put cyanogenmod 12.1 on pretty easily, depending what version FireOS is out of the box. My advice would be to make sure it doesn't connect to wifi until you know what you want to do, as it updates automatically. Mine came on 5.2.x and it was possible to downgrade and then install CM12.1. This gives you access to google play store etc, removes everything amazon. More info here

The fire tablets are android, not sure which version. Fire OS to amazon is what touchwiz is to Samsung, which is on all their phones/tablets.

I bought this last year for my nephew for Xmas, he uses it every day and with PlayStore installed it is an excellent bit of kit. It is sturdy and for the £25 I paid (PrimeNow) it was an absolute bargain. The second one at £35 is still a bargain. If there was a 16GB available at the time I may have bought it however with an SD slot I have not found the need

There's no mention of this including the "special offers" (adverts) or not (i.e. if the lock screen contains adverts or not). Does any one know if this comes with the ads or not? If it does then they're matching Amazon's price (but should really be making this clear on the product page), if not then they're beating it by £10!
