Amazon Echo going for £20.00 cheaper than the RRP with a John Lewis 2 year guarantee . It's a virtual assistant with a decent speaker that can knit together all the smart-tech in your house.
Heat! Purchased last black one yesterday from JL Leicester Highcross.

It's a good deal, I missed out on the Black Friday one but my 73 year old Dad bought one and loves it.
Whilst a completely different device I ended up buying a Roberts 93i Radio to allow me to DAB, Stream and DLNA of my server. Just wondering if I should send it back and get one of these instead.

I sometimes listen to BBC Radio 5 which is played through the pre-installed TuneIn app and it regularly disconnects, This used to be an issue with all BBC national radio stations, although its worth googling to see if its been fixed IF you going to listen to BBC a lot.
I've never had a problem with Music playback or other internet radio stations & podcasts though.

Ask it to open the pod bay doors. Alexa has a good sense of humour

You can use the Amazon Music app on your phone to save songs to playlists, like you can on Spotify. It's nice that you can just walk in your room and just say "play my Christmas playlist", "old favourites playlist" etc etc. The music aspect alone is worth it to me. In fact, there are times when I think it's possibly the only thing in our house that actually listens to a word I say..
You CAN also queue up songs etc using the Alexa app itself on your phone, in a similar way you would with Spotify connect. (If that makes sense.)
Alternatively of course, if you are a paying Spotify Premium subscriber then you have full use of your Spotify setup via the Echo anyway. Just say "play my (insert playlist name) on Spotify."

Is there a separate application for reddit rather than using a browser BTW?

I did a quick Video Demo for a friend at work the other week of just a few things that it can do. I just use the Echo Dot paired with a Bluetooth speaker I already owned, it's plenty good enough for my needs. I subscribe to Amazon Music via the Device itself, which gives 40 million tracks on tap for £3.99 a month.. an absolute bargain. I wouldn't be without mine now.
Its a good device, but i still warn people that its a Work In Progress. Some apps & services get updated on Fridays but, like the Amazon App store, there is a lot of crap "skills" that make it hard to find anything decent. Also, a lot of the Skills are already available through Alexa.
If i didnt have Amazon Prime i don't think i would have bought one but since i've owned mine (and a Dot) they're pretty much streaming Amazon Music most of the day & night.
