Was very easy to do, took about 5 minutes for me to do and only time I've opened up a pc before was to replace a graphics card years ago.

Installed windows 10 (download is from Microsoft site) so now for games we are not restricted to streamos compatible games. Then installed GeForce experience to update drivers and to switch battery boost to high performance and turn vsync off.

Also if you want to change the led light colours or turn them off download Alienware Command Centre from Dell website (2nd download link).

Am now using the 500gb hdd that came with it as an external Hdd with https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0123B4RE8/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Nah, it's been floating around at this price for the last few weeks.

These are the Linux (Steam OS) version because of that and the GPU I would say that you would be better with a console over this one.. If it was windows then this would be better, not sure if it would run Forza 3 or Gears 4 too good though?

I had a similar spec steam machine last year. Dropped windows 10 on it and ran all games over 30fps on medium/high settings.
These are around the same performance as the PS4 only more useful with windows on.

any info on the graphics card and is it worth the upgrade to i5 or i7 for steam games

​Gears 4 ran fine on medium to high settings but i had issues with some off the textures not loading properly as 2 gig of vram wasn't enough.

after a bit of googling this has the gtx 860m gpu which is comparable to a 750ti. best thing you can do is install windows 10 on this and pay the extra £50 for the 1tb model as this also comes with 8 gb of ram instead of 4gb on this model.

It is for my grandsons so no doubt newer to latest games.

I went just for the i3, the difference was very small between the i3 - i5,not sure on the i7. But because of the limitations of the 2gb Graphics card it wasn't worth it for me.
£25 for extra 4gb ram
£25 for extra 500gb hdd space
Was well worth the extra £50

So these are upgradeable? Awesome! I didn't know you could! I might consider getting one or is it worth just sticking with a PC? I'm more thinking about a family member to run games in the living room with high specs

How easy was the Windows 10 install? Does the steam machine come with a license or do you need to buy one from elsewhere?

It is really easy. If you have windows 10 on a usb then it is change to boot from usb in bios then plug in bootable usb and go. If you are upgrading to win10 from win7 you need to set it to legacy boot.

It has no windows licence of any sort.



These will play most things well enough. If games are critical to you then 1060's are £850, 1070's are £1100ish plus ssd/hdd/ram for them too.

Very easy and quick.

No key comes with the steam machine. I bought one from eBay and recieved about 10mins later. Windows 7 keys still work for the Windows 10 install aslong as you buy the corresponding version of home/pro. Such as this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322354512196

I'd bite for £199, but frankly the GPU in these is a bit crap.

At £50 less I'd be very tempted to have for less demanding games such as the LEGO games and Xbox 360 era titles in a portable form factor.

Anyone running one of these as a media centre?

Any buyers had the yellow light of death issue on these?
