I am fussy enough but unless you go for a free range, bronze etc. bird most of the standards are going to taste similar from my experience. So I just went to my local ADSA (not my favourite store by a mile) and bought a crown there- all sort of sizes to choose from. It was OK last year so not running around town looking to save pennies ;-) Aldi's turkey crown I bought a couple of years ago was a horrid con - not a crown but all wings and back bone hidden underneath - 25% weight off when those were removed, to leave the actual crown so the price per kilo came out not a bargain at all :disappointed: Lidl would be good but went there couple of mornings and no turkey crowns - sounds like my local Morrisons offers - great, but hardly ever on the shelf. Runt over and since my food shop is already done I could think about home baking :wink:.....

Iceland's basted and brined turkey with orange and thyme is the one I'm going for. Won Good Housekeeping gold award, needs 48 hours to defrost so getting mine Friday morning.

Can anyone point us towards the best place to buy a Christmas turkey this year, preferably a crown, whether fresh or frozen as long as it's good quality? I think I saw a TV ad for Morrisons mentioning £6-something per kilo, is this a hot deal?

The manager in my store this morning was very on the ball and promptly pointed out that none of the fresh meat products on the website had a price per kg - a massive error on Aldi's part - so much so that I note this evening that this has been quickly amended and all prices now state per Kilo.

Different one than the £11.99 kilo one then... Good Luck ! x

I never go by how many people the packaging says it serves. Aldi have created the publicity they wished for by misleading advertising..... shame on them!

I picked up one of the large crowns today just shy of £20 serves 11 people it says, that's still good thought isn't it?

Uum merry turkeymas everyone!! sent hubby to Aldi NORWICH this morning .....he returned 1 turkey costing £11.99.....may be a lil more to the mission in between,.....being called a thief by a not very festive Julian Aldi assistant.....a call to customer services even armed with link to advert .....see pic below .....Paid £11.99 for a turkey priced at £31.73....

I add water in the form of a brine bath to my chicken breasts as a matter of course. It makes them more succulent.

Good God, the phone rang this morning at 9.20am, awoke me from a foul dream too! It was only Aldi Customer Services! Seriously that time on a Sunday!! She went on to tell me that she doesn't know why anyone at Customer services told me it was a 2-3kg turkey for £11.99. She said the price will only be settled on the day, it could go up or down! She didn't really confirm anything and left me more confused. I was half asleep and only thought afterwards that hold on it's advertised on the Aldi website as £11.99. I'm still amazed that they thought it was that important to ring me on a Sunday morning! Serves me right I guess for pestering their Customer services. But it does at least confirm they're as confused as the rest of us. Roll on tomorrow for this mystery to be solved. Not sure Sherlock could fathom this one out. Ironic thing is the wife brought home a Turkey crown from Asda yesterday, 3.252kg for £21.95. £6.75 per kilo. So surely this is a 2-3kg for £11.99 after all it's Aldi.

Come back Monday and say that.

I'm going to give it a go - if I turn up and it is per Kg after the online appearing per item and two confirmation emails from Aldi saying it is per crown then I'll be going straight to the ASA and kicking up a fuss.

Considering that Lidl are selling the exact same Turkey Crown at £11.99 per kg I find it highly unlikely that Aldi will be able to undercut them by that much on the same product. Doesn't matter what Aldi CS have told you....they are wrong.

Looking at the brochure from my local Aldi. It states that these are FRESH ad £11.99 per Kg (this sounds correct as looking at the prices of whole turkeys also in the brochure £11.99 per crown would make it cheaper than whole turkeys per kg as they are 2-3kg). They are for the Free Range Bronze turkey crowns.

In the pan just drain the water if frying. In the oven put it on a wire rack and the water should just evaporate.

They are £11.99 pre crown, no mention of weight and the geese are coming on the 19th as well. Looks like this is the date for all fresh Christmas butchery arriving.

I'm putting money on that this is per Kg. Having looked at some reviews last year of the Aldi turkey crown they all stated the price as £11.99 per Kg.

I am sick of buying meat and chicken and trying to roast/fry when it actually turns into a "boil" as all the added water comes out. I pay £12 a kilo for meat not half a kilo of meat and the rest water weight. People dont realise how they are being ripped off. Its impossible to properly roast supermarket meat any more as it just boils.

To be fair it does say £11.99 on line but in the aldi special buys leaflet it says £11.99 per kilo........Aldi is really good but they are not going to sell a bronze free range turkey crown to feed 7-11 people for £11.99 its unrealistic! A regular 3kg british crown frozen in iceland is £16!! It does need to be modified as it is obviously an online error.

I'll pass. I don't like the way meat gets pumped with water, phosphates and other additives to bulk up the weight. It's Christmas dinner so it's worth spending a bit extra to get a decent turkey I think.

If anyone has Makro membership, they had some Turkey crowns a couple of weeks ago (not frozen), and if memory serves me well it was £4.49 per kilo.

Maybe worth checking if you are in the area of one
