I would say no, go for cheaper alternative. Not against apple - I have iPhone and iPad. I just can't see them being worth the money.

You get into the habit very quickly of charging your watch with your phone every night. It's not a hindrance to do so. It becomes part of ones daily or nightly ritual.

Biggest gimmick going and if we were talking about £40 I might say yes but at this price there is so little about them that matches the price being asked.

Oh, it is 20. I thought it would come under electricals. Been on the lookout for something to buy as they're closing my account in a couple of months because I haven't used it. I can't add BNPL though, I'm wondering if that's because it's a new account.

I've never used very until just now so had to set up an account and bnpl as was looking to get the £50 credit as above but the code popped up at the bottom of the page so used that in case I got lucky and got both deals, lol

Can't get my head around why anyone would want a watch you have to charge. I just want a watch that tells the time, if I need to make calls or send text messages I use my phone. I don't want to look at my watch and realise I forgot to charge it so very shortly it is going to be dead and not tell me what the time is.

Nice one silverfoxxxx. 20% off for new customers. Just ordered and it says it will be here tomorrow. And 2.2% cashback and coins on Quidco.
And yes, I paid on card - you have to agree to the credit terms on registering, but just don't use it at checkout.
rmjjjt
9 Dec 16 #20
So. Erm. Quidco is a bit weird. New customers at VERY get 12% cashback. Electrical goods are only 2.2%. Just checked and Quidco has actually tracked £39 (and odd pence). SO.....that is £280 for a normally £400 Apple Watch. In stock. Next day delivery. Definitely hot!

And I would recommend the opposite: horses for courses, and all that. Of course, this is a moot point now that Pebble isn't an option.

And caught a Flamedeer whilst on the thread

Spending the day at a water park, iPhones in the locker, but connect the Apple Watch to WiFi and nothing to worry about. Jogging round the streets, phone starts ringing, fiddling to get it out my pocket, not any more, just look at my watch. Sitting on the toilet hear my phone ringing in the bedroom, no worries, just look at my watch to see who it is and tell them "I'm struggling.............to talk right now". Riding my bike, phone rings, instead of my foot slipping off the pedal hitting the front wheel while I'm trying to get my phone out my pocket and ending up in the hospital, I just look at my watch.

I go to a water park maybe once a year, when I do I am on holiday, phone is switched off and I wouldn't answer it if it wasn't.

Cycling I use Cycle Meter and Strava on my phone so it is on anyway and again, I would not interrupt my ride to take a call.

If you must answer a call while on the loo take your phone in with you.

I guess some people can't live without their phones, I can. Mine is switched off in the evening, at dinner time and while out socialising.

If he likes tech toys, then yes.
I have had my watch for less than a month & wear it everyday.
I have never worn a watch before, however I find the integration with the iPhone is brilliant.
I like how can read & reply to messages, answer my phone & talk (on loud speaker) all through my watch.
So many things you can do with the watch at ease. Even control the camera function on your phone.
flight boarding passes - all accessible through my watch.
Even the translate app allows one party to speak to your phone & the other to your watch. This then translate the language for you (obvs. need to trust the other person dont run off with your phone!)
I also have Hue light bulbs & can control the lights before & after I leave a room - anyone who lives in an old house know how inconvenient switches can be placed!)

Go for the large watch (there are 2 sizes) as it has better battery life.
I charge my watch overnight once-twice a week & put in on charge each morning while getting ready.

Im sure Dick Tracy would upgrade to one if he had the chance

Tequila

normally you can't use any other promotions/discount code with these credit back offers from Very.the problem is you will need to wait 1-2 months before the discount is applied to your account and if you use another discount code, the system might reject your £50 credit back at that time.
better read the t&c carefully.

I do like these and I think the Apple watch is a good execution of the idea, the only thing that stops me is the fact that these are headed for landfill, when the tech leaves them behind and the battery won't charge anymore.

At least with an iPhone I can swap a battery for a new one in 10 minutes for about £7. (although the 7 with its waterproofing gaskets will be a bit trickier).

Lol! You could just sell it after a couple of years. That's the thing with apple products, they hold their value quite well. You could flog this in 12 months and you wouldn't lose much. I've never heard of anyone replacing the battery in their iPhone (Unless second hand).

Sound's like you are never of your phone... is ironic that hardly anyone wears a watch now as they have their phone for telling the time, but now they are going back to watches because they are doing everything a phone does pretty much now.... I can't really make sense of it to be honest.

10 Dec 16 #77
I would agree with you, however I think activity monitors are putting devices back on peoples wrists.
Hence the reason for me getting one after wearing a fitbit for a year.
Its a great extension of the iphone to anyone who uses their phone for a lot more things that making phone calls!

Just ordered one unfortunately had to go for the more expensive Watch 2 stainless steel version, but with 20% off jewellery and the quidco 12% + an extra £10 today seemed a bargain. If I get the £50 cash back in the very account which I don't see why not then it pretty much comes down to the price of the aluminium case version. Thanks OP just must make sure I pay it off before I get robbed with the 39% APR!!

I'd say no.

My husband has one and it's brilliant for him - he does a lot with Apple IT for a living, and uses it to keep in touch with colleagues, check when emails etc rec'd, and for contactless payment. - he is super careful with tech so takes care of it. He previously had a Pebble (a watch) which he liked but I see him using the Apple watch more.
Hope that helps a little bit not make it harder to decide!

Well I think I screwed it up! I set up my Quidco account or at least I thought I had and then clicked through to Very and completed the purchase. That part worked fine and I received the 20% discount. Meanwhile the tab on the Quidco page was showing as clicking on the Very link as acknowledged. After completing the purchase I went back to look at my Quidco account only to discover that I still had steps to take to confirm what type of account I wanted with them i.e. pay £5 etc.

Now unsure if it really will track. Never mind it was still worth the 20% discount.

Just been onto eBay to order a couple of alternative straps.

UPDATE: Quidco is showing as £29.90 tracking which is nice - as others have mentioned that may yet get pulled but is definitely worth a shot

david_robinson94
11 Dec 16 #110
I suppose it all depends on why the person buying the device decides to get it.

For me the intention was never to replace a watch, although the watch function is certainly useful.

I attend lots of meetings each day, mix of phone any physical based and also travel a lot for work.

So the ability to have my meetings and urgent notifications on my wrist is actually very useful.

I also use the map functionality, Apple Pay for the Tube and much more besides.

Now I could accomplish all of that with my iPhone. But it's frequently easier when, for example, standing in a crammed train, to look at the Watch and immediately decide if the notification requires a response.

There are many different usage models that people will have, the above is just why it fits for me.
helllraiser
12 Dec 16 #111
Way too expensive for what you get, do you people want a fitness tracker or a watch? Either way for anything serious you wouldn't buy this lmao. If you want a "smart watch" to get notifications and look cool with a foxconn watch on your wrist then its still a waste of nearly £300 .

Just a heads up in case anyone else in in the same situation, if you don't get a confirmation email, don't just wait for it: call them up on 0344 811 1218 (don't bother with online chat support - they just gave me that number after quite a long time).

Rant time:
I purchased on Friday afternoon and delivery was down for tomorrow, but I just called up as I never got a confirmation and my order was showing as processing in my account. They did some security checks and said everything was sorted, but then my delivery date changed to Wednesday. I then had to call up again to ask them to deliver to work, and they couldn't change anything! So now I'm going to have to go collect it from the Royal Mail delivery office on Thursday.

Ah well, delayed gratification will likely be the most enjoyable part given that I'm not particularly excited about owning an Apple Watch and I'm still dead inside from the loss of Pebble.

Fingers crossed (hope against hope) that the £70 Quidco pays out, or this will be even more ridiculously expensive than I had prepared for.

Same for me, but an hour ago or so I had a Dispatch email with RM Special delivery tracking number.

14 Dec 16 #126
When I ordered, the product was in stock and I also got an email that it would be delivered by 13th December. When I spoke to customer service, they gave me two 'options' - either wait until14th of Jan or cancel the order.

I was given a tracking number but then the order page now says 14th January. The tracking number means nothing, it's just linked to the order and is pre-allocated. So annoyed about this. I did manage to get confirmation that if you used the 20% off they would not honour the £50 credit offer as well and they said cash back does not apply. Makes me feel a slight bit better.

They did say these come direct from Apple. This would make sense as Apple is out of stock and delivering early January. So it's either wait till early January and save 20% or cancel and take the hit.

So **** off!

Hi there

I jumped on this deal purchased an iwatch I also set up a new credit account as part of the process and paid nothing at the time. I believe I selected buy now and pay later option in the hope I get the £50 cash back, but I just checked the account now and I only get the pay in 3 amounts option not 6 months interest free. Is this correct as I am sure it said 6 months interest free option when I placed the order.

Does anyone know if you pay in 3 amounts you are still eligible for the hopeful £50 cash back in Feb or must it be the 6 months interest free option as I can't find the term and conditions anymore on their site??

Thanks

no you wont get it , ive just spent ages on the phone with them ....they can change it over bnpl but said i wouldnt get £50 as needed to be at point of order i argued that i had , and they have made a note of their error but time will tell if i get it but i doubt it.

Hi shymanuk

Following your advice I rang up and put it on BNPL as might as well have 12 months to pay it off, although I was sure I had chosen this option having set up a credit agreement. However it may of gone wrong when I phoned up after placing the order online as it was stuck on holld and they had to put the order through manually. I can only assume that when this happened it may of changed. The man from Very was quite helpful and put a note regarding the £50 cash back but like you said I think I have no chance of seeing that still they probably wouldn't of paid out either way due to the use of a code. If you look at it that if you don't get the £50 cash back from Very or Quidco cash back, 20 % off Apple products especially their new second gen iWatch is unheard of. Apple's Black Friday deal was messily iTunes vouchers which lets face it doesn't cost them the face value possibly no where near. I can only hope the gods of cash back are looking down on me favourably and it's good will to all men season and that.

Thanks for your advice

yes I had a email stating they had put mine on bnpl, but not untitled to £50 credit as not taken out on bnpl in first place, talk about going round in circles with them ....just glad I got 20% off as first order.

no option for buy now pay later, I placed the order thinking would be able to apply the offer after it - no joy.
Chat couldn't help.

On the phone they said buy now pay later isn't available to me, no reason given why. Couldn't cancel the order as it's processed at the suppliers. Demanded to refund postage - they did at least that. Now I will have to refuse the delivery of the item that I want, but will not be having because I didn't qualify for the offer with no reason given. Existing account owner, my account was never in arrears and never missed a payment.

veryannoying.co.uk will be closing my account with this joke of a place!

Same problem. We have webchat in which Very state credit will be applied automatically. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Money claim online if they don't pay up. Seriously wonder if Very are deliberately cheating customers through the way their so called customer services operate. Spent thirty minutes on phone to CS where staff put phone on desk to check things out and were laughing shouting and sounded like party going on in office. No result at end of it other than vague promise that we should check statement next month.

I had to create a new account to get the 20% off. Went through quidco when creating so that tracked at around £32. So looking at about £286 for a series 2 42mm!
