We've got one of these and its a cracking bluetooth speaker. Its got several good-sized speaker units in it including a bass woofer, so the sound quality and volume is really excellent.

We bought one on a previous deal rather than the Bose Mini.
But - make sure you realise how large it is - its about the size of a large dinner plate (10 inches).

We're still using it on the kitchen side (and out in the garden in the summer) as our main music speaker, which says a lot for its quality and flexibility, but just make sure you're aware of the size before you order so that it does't come as a surprise (like it did to us!).

well I've been looking at them for ages and then came across this deal had to pounce but I no the size its one of those for me it's never going to be a portable speaker as such it won't leave the house often so it doesn't need to be small but it's nice having the ability to move it wire free if say I wanted to go for a BBQ I'm buzzin with them.just hope they come before Xmas

Hmm, oddly if you search for Harman Kardon in the main search box, the only deal which appears is a single twin pack for £199. But if you look through goods/electronics, etc, you get the two options, 2 or 4 speakers as this deal.

Gone for the 4 pack for £199. Ta!

One question for the owners out there please. If you have a pair of these connected together, and wanted to use chromecast audio, do you only need one chromecast audio connected to one speaker? I reckon (and hope) this is the case but would appreciate if an owner can advise.
creepyg to creepyg
18 Dec 16 2 #19
Found the answer to this on the harman site, and yes, only one chromecast audio is needed for a pair. So reckon I'll connect chromecast to one speaker and maybe an echo dot to the other.

I would normally do loads of research before purchasing anything (especially speakers). But based on the reviews that I quickly scanned through and the comments on here + especially the price ... I took the plunge and ordered the 199 option. Plus, I still have an old amp made by HK (from back in the 90's), which is quality and still going strong - so gave me confidence in the brand name.

In my house, I have 3 Chromecast audio. One in the lounge connected to my av receiver, one in the dining room connected to some powered speakers and one upstairs connected to my old 90's amp. With the chromecast I can set up groups of speakers, eg downstairs only or all 3 at once and stream music simultaneously to all connected speakers. That for me is the main reason to use chromecast, but I've covered a few other reasons in an earlier post.

I'm concerned that there is an error in the groupon listing. I agree that the page states one twin pack which should be two speakers at £109 however the RRP is listed as £199 which is the RRP of one speaker. Thoughts/confirmation when delivered?
creepyg
18 Dec 16 #79
It does seem a bit too good to be true doesn't it? But then again, the listing does implicitly state a twin pack of speakers (plural), so there's little margin for interpretation there.
stevendowsett
18 Dec 16 #80
Yeh ive just received an email invoice from groupon which states 2x TWIN pack, so i dont see how they would be able to say that and them only be singles

deanwatson842
18 Dec 16 #82
I agree that the invoice leaves little room for doubt however I can't explain why the RRP price is listed as £199 for one twin pack. Either the RRP is in error or more likely the use of the word twin in my opinion.
I'll post confirmation when I receive my purchase. Confirmation welcomed from others.
creepyg
18 Dec 16 #83
Are these even sold as a twin pack ie one box with 2 speakers inside? A quick Google doesn't find anything. So the rrp would be per speaker and this is just sloppy maths on Groupon's part. Should be fun explaining the 2 large boxes which arrive....
stevendowsett
18 Dec 16 #84
Likewise ill post when i receive, bit of a bummer than you cant run two as a stereo pair with chromecast audio (also seen that you cant run seperate zones with different volume levels, boo).

Seems strange that it wouldnt do stereo when just pairing two using the bluetooth function either

I have a screen shot from Groupon web site - taken when I made purchase @ 13:48 today (should anyone need it!!). I quite often do this when making a purchase - sad, I know.

It shows very clearly:
Twin Pack for £109 [Sold Out]
2 x Twin Pack for £199 [which is what I ordered]

I think from anyone's understanding of the word "twin" - this basically equates to "2 the same".

Plus my email states...

I am expecting 4 to be delivered. Should it be different, then Groupon will be getting a call from me.

The other page, with the two for £199, was there throughout the duration of the sale of 2 for £109 or 4 for £199. It was not added after this sale ended.

As for why.. perhaps too much stock and need the space in their warehouse for a new delivery?

I just don't understand why you'd order and then suddenly decide it's a dud, raise a dispute, and now cancel your orders. Absolutely bonkers. Wait and see what arrives... I'll be enjoying my four speakers

Onyx 3 is HK latest flagship Bluetooth speaker, why would they need to offload them... as for 'taking up room in warehouse' - I don't buy that for one second. they are not big enough to trouble a warehouse, I know, I'm an accountant in logistics industry.

I just ran a huge logistics project moving an entire warehouse from one part of England to another. Trust me, given how large these boxes are (by your own admission) and the fact Groupon had somewhere between 600 and 1000 of them to shift, they are easily something that could trouble a warehouse if they are backed up with stock, and need to get room for their next season's stock. Or perhaps groupon pay someone else to store and handle their logistics (seems likely based on the order information), and it reached the point where it made more sense to shift them in a fire sale than continue to have them selling in low volumes and costing them storage charges. Either way, groupon were pretty clear in their text that you were buying either 2 of them or 4 for them.

There are many reasons why a company wants to shift goods and offer them at a great price. This, in many ways, is the point of HUKD - to point out those great deals for masses. And for the masses to benefit. And, seemingly, for you to order and then cancel. You carry on - more deals for the rest of us
zoso1313
18 Dec 16 #139
i highly doubt Groupon own the Inventory, they are middle men who make commission. Harmon Kardon still sell Onyx 2 yet alone 3, which was only launched a few months ago. They keep launching new iterations because there is demand for it.

also, I meant the boxes were large for you or I, not a warehouse....1000 of these wouldn't trouble a large warehouse.

anyway, let's see how this plays out shall we....either my gut feel is right or wrong

18 Dec 16 2 #140
Just to throw fuel on the fire, this is from the US site. Seems a pretty substantial discount, in excess of 70%. Might be nothing, might mean there's a substantial discount on this model across the board.

https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-harman-kardon-onyx-studio-3-wireless-speaker-system
zoso1313
18 Dec 16 #141
$129.99 / 1.24 = £105.....the Onyx 3 is currently £199 on the Harmon Kardon UK store.

http://www.harmankardon.co.uk/bluetooth-docks/ONYX+STUDIO+3.html?dwvar_ONYX%20STUDIO%203_color=Black-EMEA#q=Onyx&start=1

I'd say that is conclusive enough to say those folks arguing they are going to get 4 of these are in denial. Groupon don't sell these, they are selling them on behalf of HK for a commission. They have messed up their advert, which is why it's now showing £199 down to £109 as the offer... hence original RRP aligns with HK official store.

If you want a Bluetooth speaker, this is the best available for £109 / £99 (if ordered 2).

Readjust your expectations, you're not getting what you think you are.

Out of interest, I just clicked on the link again and it shows the twin pack at £199 and two of them for £398 but both now sold out. Whoever updated their prices missed that when you scroll down it still shows the earlier prices of £109 and £199. Someone's messed up there but hopefully they will honour the deal or at least refund without any hassle if not.

I don't think you could write the same mistake 4-5 times when you make a sales page. Expect four speakers. I mean, honestly, you must be a really #$#$# person to write twin pack when you're selling only a piece and you write it 6 times all over again. So I think we will see 4 speakers.

Received mine on Saturday - had ordered the twin pack at £109. Only one speaker received despite advert (which I archived) order form and delivery invoice ALL stating twin pack. Have now emailed groupon twice and am waiting for their response. Will call them today if don't hear anything by lunchtime. Appreciate this may be a genuine error on groupon part but as ALL relevant paperwork states a twin pack and I didn't receive what I ordered then don't see how they have a leg to stand on!

Ok, so ive just got off the phone (after a 30 min wait) and the guy i spoke to confirmed that i should receive 6 speakers in total. 1x twin pack, and 2x twin pack. Whether or not that's what actually gets delivered will remain to be seen.
zoso1313
19 Dec 16 #165
if people are receiving only 1 in post then highly unlikely..... ultimately Groupon are middle men. HK will ship the goods.

like I explained yesterday the speaker is £199 on HK websites so a 40% discount = £109 for one unit.

the douchebag at Groupon is talking rubbish
McMac
19 Dec 16 #166
I have just spoken to their customer services. They have confirmed that a 1 x Twin pack is actually 2 x Studio 3's. a 2 x Twin pack is 4 x Studio 3's. I confirmed this with them 3 times and have noted the time (11:20 19/11/16) and his name, if this is not the case. Time will tell.
stevendowsett
19 Dec 16 #167
Dont get me wrong id suspect you are correct, i just think its terrible how groupon can get away with doing that. Even after confirming on the phone and it advertising on their website that what you are purchasing is something different.
zoso1313
19 Dec 16 #168
i totally agree, they are clearly incompetent, they should have realised their error by now, or at very least should contact the merchant and verify what the deal actually is, so they can be honest with customers.

Just doing the basic maths, its clear they have mucked up, if it was a retailer you might take your chances and hope they honour it, but they won't because HK will only ship what they agreed with Groupon to advertise.

This is what I was trying to explain to people last night, but got told to shut up.....Groupon screwed up a Hotel voucher with my wife, it took 8 months before we got a refund, they are an absolute nightmare of a place when things go wrong. Hence I now use Paypal with them.....i was trying to say to people last night it might not be as straight forward as ship them back and get refund, hopefully it will, but my Groupon refund experience has been hell.

zoso1313
19 Dec 16 #190
ive not compared to play 1, but I thought it was better than Bose Soundlink iii. I own a Zeppelin wireless, the sound out of it is jaw dropping, but that was £499.....the HK doesn't sound £400 worse,!

I'd say the HK sounds like a £300 speaker & also it sounds far better plugged in
Tomb
19 Dec 16 #191
As above you could use a splitter that separates the left & right channels hooked up to a separate Bluetooth receiver.

It does seem a bit of a faff & not exactly "wireless" but would be OK in the right situation.

Not sure where you'd get the correct cable though.
zoso1313
19 Dec 16 #193
these speakers have a surprisingly wide soundstage, remember these speakers are not designed to be a main speaker at home. They are wireless speakers to move around - chuck in kitchen, BBQ or whatever...they are never going to sound as good as a half decent bookshelf set up, even at similar price.

Just received an email from groupon (I ordered on sunday)

Thanks for your recent attempt at purchasing the deal "2 x twin-packs of Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 3 wireless speakers"

Unfortunately the partner will be unable to process this order due to unexpected stock shortages. My apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I have now cancelled your Groupon and have refunded the amount paid back to your method of payment. Our partner business has already been informed that this Groupon is no longer valid. Please allow 5 to 7 working days for the payment to clear back to your account.

My apologies again for the inconvenience, and please do get in touch if there's anything else I can do to help.

Can someone help me I am so angry right now. I sold my speaker (Bose Soundlink) as soon as Groupon sent me an invoice AND took money out of my account for the twin pack (for £109.00). When they sent me a cancellation email mentioning stock issues the next day, I really lost my ****. I checked with Harman Kardon who have no issues with stock. I then sent Groupon an email (at the bottom of this post), to which I got no reply, so I called them today.

I first spoke with an agent called Jana (who was actually very helpful at first), and I said that if it is merely a stock issue I am willing to wait a reasonable amount of time for the supplier to re-stock. But she said this was not an option and after discussing my situation, talked with her manager (Sam) and got back to me offering me £20.00. I said very politely "that isn't really going to solve my problem is it Jana?" She then immediately said she could offer £50.00. This was very kind, but I didn't accept straight away and just said that I sold my existing speaker for £150.00 and to buy a new one it would cost me £230.00. Jana said she would see what she could do, and then left me hanging on the phone for over 1 hour. It would have been longer but my phone battery died.

I call back and this time speak to another agent, Abbey, who says she cannot transfer my call to the first agent I spoke with. So I have to explain the whole thing again and eventually Abbey says she can offer £20.00 in Groupon credit. Then I told her Jana had already offered me £50.00 in real money and while I wasn't even sure about that at the time, that I would accept that now and end this whole fiasco. But Abbey went on to say there was no record of Jana ever offering me £50.00 and that the best they could do was now £25.00 in Groupon credit. The implication that I was making stuff up and/or lying was infuriating. I told her "Well you need only to ask your colleague Jana or even check the recording to validate what was said," but she said there was no way to check. Does it not occur to these people that they can simply ask the person in question? I got nowhere with Abbey, she was incredibly unhelpful, so I asked to speak to Jana's manager if I couldn't speak with Jana directly and Abbey said Jana's manager wasn't available in the office anymore. This Abbey really got on my nerves and it blew up into a full-on row, and I eventually just told her to give me any manager or supervisor to her, to which I was passed on to manager Sam - who turned out to be Jana's manager anyway(?!).

The conversation with Sam the manager was perhaps even more futile and unhelpful. Actually it was more irritating because the same shambolic waste-of-time conversation was being had with a person only senior in title and not much else. Again, Sam was denying the £50.00 offer was ever made and that the best she could do was offer £25.00 Groupon credit. I mean, why the hell would I want £25.00 Groupon credit now? I said that I've just lost a £300 speaker because of an error your company made and ultimately Sam the manager's response was "then you need to buy another speaker from Groupon". I ended the conversation there, and I kidd you not Sam said, "Thank you for contacting Groupon customer services, I hope your call has been helpful, and we wish you a wonderful day" (or something of that nature). W. T. F.?

I'm just so angry on so many levels right now and I've wasted so much time and even made unnecessary monetary loss on this. Do I have to simply accept this?

Email to Groupon, below.

"Dear Groupon CS,

I am afraid this is unacceptable, not to mention infuriating. I have just SOLD my existing - and pricer - sound system at a discount after having made this order AND after having received an INVOICE for my purchase, AND after money had LEFT MY ACCOUNT. As you can imagine, a mere refund is not going to solve my problem now, and I am sure you can see why I sound upset - any reasonable person would be in this situation.

I will state here now that a simple refund will not suffice to remedy the predicament I am placed in, and that this kind of response is completely unacceptable for a company of your size and scale. Please advise your business partner that they will fulfill my order or I will demand additional compensation for the otherwise ridiculous situation I face. Meanwhile, I have checked with the manufacturer and they have no issues with stock of this model.

This was my very first Groupon purchase made with a leap of faith, so please do make this an experience I can share with others in a positive manner."

you don't have a leg to stand on. From a legal contractual perspective Groupon are within their rights to cancel the sale, and your money is only consideration for an offer to purchase the speakers. Of course Harmon have stock, that's completely irrelevant, it doesn't mean that stock is allocated to Groupon, even if it was it is still irrelevant. Websites often make mistakes listing products, meanwhile customer service advisors have to pick up the trail.

They have refunded you, I would suggest you just move on & put it down to bad experience......Groupon are a***, I pointed that out to several people on here when the deal went up, and just got told to shut up.

Yeah I just read the whole thread. I think your were doing the right thing expressing your concerns. I am the prime example of someone who has actually made a loss because of this. I fu**ing hate Groupon right now. I sold a perfectly good Bose Soundlink for 150 quid because I wanted the 2 HK's.. and now I have no speakers at all. I'd never used Groupon before because something about them just made me wary right from their conception. I see now my instincts were spot on. Never again.

obviously I would have liked nothing more than to have been proved wrong.....sorry you lost out on cash, dude. Same as you, i'll never use Groupon again, they are an utter shambles

Meanwhile I've started tweeting #GrouponNeverAgain as therapy for my rage. I never really used Twitter before because I didn't know what to say on it, but now I have something to say!

Also in other Groupon news...

I'd still like to know did anyone receive this order, or is a way to boost money in times of need etc.

Then pay it back 5 working days later (approx 2 weeks after everyone paying in the company a large amount)

shambles. anyway got money back now and learned a lesson ... do not use Groupon.

An aside... Costco are doing one for just under £135 at the mo. At least this will turn up.
