£10 Quidco bonus when you spend £25.00 (excluding delivery) at Book People, The Book Depository, AbeBooks, WHSmith, Wordery or Waterstones.
A qualifying purchase requires the member to opt in and make a cashback earning purchase through the Quidco site, via the specified retailer pages, by 23:59pm on 12 December 2016.
edit: no VAT on books, so £25 is what you need to spend excluding delivery, thanks calmacuk
edit: according to t&cs £10 bonus will appear within 3 days of normal cashback being confirmed (initially it will just appear as tracked)
The £10 bonus will be automatically added to users' accounts 3 days after the purchase has been confirmed by the retailer.

Just to make this clear from the outset, I'm nothing more than a customer of Wordery with no other connection to them in any other way - but I think they're blimmin' brilliant to buy books from. I've been very, very happy each time and like to know that I'm giving money to someone other than mega-giant Amazon.

Hi everyone,
This promotion is open to existing members of Quidco. You need only opt in for the bonus and make your purchase by midnight on the 12th December. Your purchase must be of £25 or more excluding delivery.
Please clear your cookies before clicking through to the retailer as this will help ensure the successful tracking of your purchase. Within 24 hours your purchase will track into your Activity page (unless otherwise stated on the retailer's Quidco page). Your bonus is then paid once we have received the smaller amount of cashback tracking in your account and your transaction has updated to a 'confirmed' status. It's paid within 72 hours as a separate transaction within your Activity page, so don't worry if you can't see it till this time.
Should your purchase fail to track within 24 hours, you can raise a claim here https://www.quidco.com/new-enquiry/ to have the purchase manually tracking instead of automatically. Your bonus is then paid once the claimed amount of cashback has become available for payment, at the end of the claim processing period.
If after either of these periods your bonus hasn't appeared, get in touch with the support team either via the contact form or over Facebook/ Twitter and they'll be able to assist from here.
Kind Regards,
Jack

I couldn't see any mention of VAT in the small print for this, so I'm assuming that £25 is the amount for whatever I buy. Out of interest, does anyone know if Audiobooks (on CD) attract VAT? I'm guessing they do, maybe someone here knows for sure?

went Whsmith but gift voucher tracked at 23.60...cancelled order and redo with a clearance book 8-)
I know it doesn't breach the terms of quidco, as it says nothing of VAT - but they are not the easiest cashback site to deal with! Better to add an extra gift for the family then deal with chasing up.
Great deal thanks, still to do the big book order. Remember the £10 won't credit until the purchase cashback is confirmed

On another note does anyone know where Quidco customer service is based? Half the time they respond with answers which do not address the question asked, but rather related issues that other people might have had. I cannot tell if this is simply an automated system which picks out key words, or whether the customer service has been outsourced to a far flung support centre where English is not the first language...

I didn't say I wasn't 'happy' to buy from Amazon either (although I avoid them whenever possible). I was pointing out the fact that Amazon is a tax-dodger. All tax avoidance is wrong, whether it's Amazon, Quidco, HUKD or whoever. But Amazon, with about £6bn of sales in the UK alone, is one of the biggest in history and they deserve to be shamed for it.

Amazon pay a small fortune in VAT, wages, employers NI as well as giving work to folks in areas where work is needed which overall helps the economy.

Tracking with the £10 showing? It will track at the normal 5% or whatever but that doesnt mean you qualify for the extra if its the case that you needed to receive the email specifically to qualify. They may pay a 'small fortune'. But they should be paying a large fortune, rather than hiving money off through Luxembourg and the like (although they seem to be making small steps to change this). Paying a lot doesn't excuse them for not paying what they should be paying. People and companies who dodge tax often point to the amount they pay, as if they get to choose the amount. And yes, I know that what they do is within the law etc etc, but that doesn't make it right. And you could argue that criminals provide jobs for police 'in areas where work is needed'. Is that a good thing?
Frankly i'm quite surprised by how many people on here seem to be supporting Amazon's dodgy tax structure. Since when did not paying your fair share into society become acceptable?
deany76
9 Dec 16#99
If you are comparing amazon UK to criminals then you should report them to the police and or HMRC.
If they are breaking the law they should be prosecuted.
I estimate amazon pay approx £500M to £1B in tax and employ over 10,000 staff in the UK.

I doubt that. They would need a kick up the **** to start paying their delivery drivers a fair wage, as was the case with Uber.
Was your order for printed books only, or did it include audio books? Cos audio books have VAT added and according to Quidco's Wordery page "Cashback may not be paid on VAT, delivery, card payment fees, taxes or any other additional charges".

Sh#t my order was 2 audio books.
I missed out on nearly £9 because my order was 68p under
So anyone reading this if you get audio books its £25 plus VAT so £30 (my order was £29.32).
I'm not too upset as wordery was a lot less than amazon - the order would have been £37.29 with amazon prime.
Plus just got my £5.00 for the TCB Radio Times offer where the was a clear profit for £1.00 outlay

It isn't Amazon's tax structure. Amazon pay the tax that HMRC bills them for. If our government have set up dodgy holes to encourage big businesses to be successful here, at a cost to the average Joe, then you should be mad at the government, not the businesses.
But that isn't trendy, is it?
QuidcoCompanyRep
9 Dec 161#106
Hi @backinstock
You will need to make a purchase eligible for cashback, you can find cashback rates on a retailer's Quidco page and you'll need to make a purchase which would fall under one of these rates so that your purchase tracks into your account. As stated on the majority of retailer's Quidco page terms and conditions (which can be found towards the bottom of each page) cashback isn't paid on vouchers and gift cards.
Also you cannot make a purchase using gift cards and voucher codes. You may only use voucher codes listed on a retailer's Quidco page.
I hope this helps clarify.
Kind Regards,
Jack

Similar issue to me. I bought just over £25 worth of books from abebooks and made sure all books had free delivery and were all books but tracked just below £25 so Quidco could avoid paying the £10. Although the standard cashback is based on the order total excluding VAT, it doesn't say anything about VAT if you look at the terms & conditions for the £10 bonus offer so I think they should really give you the bonus. Is this open to everyone who opts in? I didn't get an email or a banner on my account about this but it let me opt in on the page that this thread links to. It says on that page
"Great news! You've qualified for your £10 cashback bonus
Offer activated! Nice work, you're part of an exclusive group."
but I didn't receive an email or an invite to it so does that mean, according to your terms, i am not eligible?
Terms say:

Quidco tracked ~ 30mins later at £2.77
Waiting now for the £10.00 bonus
Frankly I'm not bothered what you say or when you said it.
But for you information I would guess amazon paid 10%+ VAT on those £5B sales re the Summer '15 link you posted (which is probably more £6B and £600M VAT now in 2016) making £500M / £600M PAID, plus all the other taxes previously mentioned but I think I'm wasting my time on you.

13 Dec 16#151
What do you mean by Amazon "paid" VAT?
Surely you're not referring to the VAT they collect from customers and pass on? That money is paid by the customer.
• Also Jeff Bezos despite being the 3rd most wealthy person in the world INVESTS ALMOST ALL PROFITS back into the company ie Corporation tax that they are said to avoid would be on the low side anyway.
cheers

13 Dec 16#153
That doesn't help I'm afraid.
1) When you refer to VAT Amazon "pay" are you referring to the VAT they collect from customers and pass on,
or
2) are you referring to some other VAT that they pay as an end customer - in which case what is that charged on given that they are a business.

Hi
Advice please
I placed two orders
One over £25.00 books zero VAT
One over £25.00 audio books, order was under £30.00
No mention of VAT as an exclusion - delivery was mentioned.
Both orders tracked for under £2.00!
So I'm at least £16 out of pocket.
Putting in a claim but only give a % option not £10.00 claim option.
What do folks advise.

no meantion of VAT being an excusion - delivery was mentioned- therefore I assume the £29 order inc VAT @wordery for audiobooks should track at £10.00

• book depository no mention 'not to worry if lower' (this was over £25 and for hard back books)

I advise that you just wait. The bonus doesn't show in the tracking. It is not supposed to. Only when it turns from "tracked" to "payable" will the bonus be applied (actually it's 3 days after this event). That can take weeks (in the case of Wordery, 13 of them on average!). You will only have a reason to submit a claim when the two cashback amounts become payable and the £10 bonus doesn't show.

Sounds like its not tracked unfortunately - I got a sub £2.00 track quite soon after purchase.
Its very frustrating when this happens, the could be a number of reasons why it didn't track.
I prefer TCB but both are far from perfect.
I made two purchases but one with VAT and no mention of VAT being not included so I'm hoping both pay out.
I doubt whether I'll use Quidco again if both dont pay the £10

I purchased some books on 8 December from Wordery via Quidco for £41.88 ie. within the £10 promotional Quidco bonus offer which ended 12 December. Wordery were one of several book companies specifically mentioned where a £10 Quidco bonus would be paid for purchases over £25 and before the 12 December deadline. Shortly afterwards I received an email confirming my claim had been tracked but only at £1.21. I queried why with Quidco who gave me the same blurb as others have received i.e.. not to worry if cash back has tracked lower than actual purchase price etc etc. I've just checked my account to find Wordery has even denied the incorrect lower tracked claim of £1.21! I'm totally fed up with Quidco and have told them so. Either Wordery are not playing fair or Quidco, or probably both! If the £10 Quidco bonus isn't paid (and I doubt that it will be) I intend to cancel my account and I suggest others do likewise. Only then will Quidco perhaps start taking notice. It will interesting to hear from others if they have had similar experiences with the other recent bonus offers that have been bounded about lately. Has ANYONE actually received the amount promised?

Declined, thats appauling after being tracked. I'm in the same boat sub £2.00 tracked and told 'its normal'
There doesn't seem to be a way of querying properly like TCB unless we have 'plus' membership.
So far not impressed at all with Quidco who own the hotukdeals site.

Yup done that just there now with Quidco and Wordery via their contact links . Don't hold out too much hope though with either.
Thanks for the heads up re Quidco owning this site. Wasn't aware of that. Dare say both will blame the other and I'll get nowhere but I WILL cancel my Quidco account after this and stick with TCB from now on. Incidentally I had a similar problem with Quidco a year ago with a £450 purchase which never materialised either.
PS: In my haste the actual track was for £1.09 (not £1.21 as I indicated earlier) for a £21.87 purchase even though I actually spent £41.88. So if the (declined) track is is not resurrected I won't be receiving the £10 bonus offer from Quidco either! Ever felt you've been stitched up (especially after what you said above)?
Hope you have better luck than me.

Only remembered to check today, and no, £10 bonus not paid either, just cashback amount of £1 for a transaction of over £30. I'm not even sure who to raise a claim against, wasn't it Quidco who promised the £10 bonus as opposed to The Bookpeople?

Finally got paid paid out by Wordery AND also received £10 QUIDCO bonus but it took a few emails to both to do so. For those still waiting for theirs I suggest you take it up with both Quidco and the seller (as I did) and perhaps then you'll also receive what you're entitled to. Good luck.
Opening post

If after either of these periods your bonus hasn't appeared, get in touch with the support team either via the contact form or over Facebook/ Twitter and they'll be able to assist from here.

asking u to opt in
P.S. Can this be used ONCE only at one of the retailers, or could you use it at all of them?

I know it doesn't breach the terms of quidco, as it says nothing of VAT - but they are not the easiest cashback site to deal with! Better to add an extra gift for the family then deal with chasing up.
I bought something using 1 of the previous cashback deals but no cashback has arrived yet.
Theatre gift vouchers may be an option for Xmas presents?
Bought £30's worth, but only multiples of £10 and £20 anyway.
Out of stock for ages and more expensive on amazon even without the discount - perfect.
Heat added, thanks!
What happens if my purchase doesn't track?
https://www.quidco.com/activity
so 24 hours need to pass
I'm assuming here that Quidco pay out.
However, whether theater counts as activity or gift voucher is anyone's guess.
Quidco holds a list of account holders eligible for this promotion. Ineligible account holders will not receive communications regarding the promotion from Quidco and will not be entitled to receive the £10 bonus.
Participation is by eligible account holders making a cashback qualifying purchase at either Book People, The Book Depository, AbeBooks, WHSmith, Wordery or Waterstones, and opting in via email link or link on homepage
So as it says you can go through link on homepage too i think if you are able to opt in you are eligible
"eligible" refers to the list of the people they have emailed.. those people can either click on the link in their email or on the website..
So Quidco cashback didn t worked for me so it s the last time i am using it. One by one....this is how a business loses trust...one by one ....
I found WHSmith to be the cheapest for all the books I wanted and for people asking, it wont pay out till your tracked cashback reaches confirmed which can take months on Quidco.
Its 99p over but this may help:

What you have said sounds like what happened to me and mine is tracking.
Agreed they need to look after staff as does sports direct.
I'm sure amazon are working hard to create a happier workforce.
My £29.00 order with Wordery resulted in this e-mail from quidco this afternoon:
which makes no sense at all, but I'm not worried at this stage as at least its tracked, I'm sure I will get the tenner in the end.
Hope this helps
Frankly i'm quite surprised by how many people on here seem to be supporting Amazon's dodgy tax structure. Since when did not paying your fair share into society become acceptable?
If they are breaking the law they should be prosecuted.
I estimate amazon pay approx £500M to £1B in tax and employ over 10,000 staff in the UK.
Was your order for printed books only, or did it include audio books? Cos audio books have VAT added and according to Quidco's Wordery page "Cashback may not be paid on VAT, delivery, card payment fees, taxes or any other additional charges".

How do you claim the £10 for a £30 purchase? I believe I've met the terms and conditions by making a £30 spend at WH Smith.
No mention that you can't buy anything, or have I missed something?
I missed out on nearly £9 because my order was 68p under
So anyone reading this if you get audio books its £25 plus VAT so £30 (my order was £29.32).
I'm not too upset as wordery was a lot less than amazon - the order would have been £37.29 with amazon prime.
Plus just got my £5.00 for the TCB Radio Times offer where the was a clear profit for £1.00 outlay
But that isn't trendy, is it?
You will need to make a purchase eligible for cashback, you can find cashback rates on a retailer's Quidco page and you'll need to make a purchase which would fall under one of these rates so that your purchase tracks into your account. As stated on the majority of retailer's Quidco page terms and conditions (which can be found towards the bottom of each page) cashback isn't paid on vouchers and gift cards.
Also you cannot make a purchase using gift cards and voucher codes. You may only use voucher codes listed on a retailer's Quidco page.
I hope this helps clarify.

My order was for audio books I paid £29.32 fogetting the £25 rule
hey ho!
Thanks so much for replying to my post. That has cheered me up a bit I do hope it tracks for the £10.00 will follow your advice and quote the T&C not mentioning VAT
thanks again
"Great news! You've qualified for your £10 cashback bonus
Offer activated! Nice work, you're part of an exclusive group."
but I didn't receive an email or an invite to it so does that mean, according to your terms, i am not eligible?
Terms say:
"Quidco holds a list of account holders eligible for this promotion. Ineligible account holders will not receive communications regarding the promotion from Quidco and will not be entitled to receive the £10 bonus."
So can you confirm this is open to everyone who opts in via the link in this deal and not just those that got an invite/email?
thanks
She clicked on this deal "Not eligible"
shame.
I have ordered with Wordery and its tracked.
Can I put another order in with Book Depository?
ie 2 x £10 bonus but different retailers
or is this a one off.
It just that I click "Get" and it keeps saying I'm opt in
Thanks in advance.
Looks like i left it too late :disappointed:
Quidco tracked ~ 30mins later at £2.77
Waiting now for the £10.00 bonus
But for you information I would guess amazon paid 10%+ VAT on those £5B sales re the Summer '15 link you posted (which is probably more £6B and £600M VAT now in 2016) making £500M / £600M PAID, plus all the other taxes previously mentioned but I think I'm wasting my time on you.
Good night and bye.
>A qualifying purchase requires the member to opt in and make a cashback earning purchase through the Quidco site, via the specified retailer pages, by 23:59pm on 12 December 2016.
I simply don't see the "Opt In" offer anywhere on the page when I search for Book Depository on Quidco!
Once you've opted in you're good as long as you make a qualifying purchase before the end of the 12th
I wasn't expecting both cashback and the £10 offer, but thought the £10 would kick in for making the purchase.
I'll see if I can get a refund, but more clarity please for similar offers would be helpful. Seems like this offer was rushed?

Surely you're not referring to the VAT they collect from customers and pass on? That money is paid by the customer.
• approx 10% will go to HMRC
• Also amazon have created over 12,000 jobs in the UK https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/technology/2016/jan/22/amazon-creating-more-than-2500-new-uk-jobs-2016?client=safari many in 'depressed' areas.
