Seems like a great price for this phone. Its camera is better than the oneplus 3 and in day light just as good as the s7.

I'm looking to upgrade from my LG G2 16gb. Is this worth looking at? Is 32gb sufficient for general use?

I've been suggesting this phone to you in at least 5 other threads in the last 1-2 months.
But what is the warranty like & does this come with a Global / International rom?
brooky_agn
9 Nov 16#6
Surely worth paying extra for the international edition so it can be used when you go on your holibobs or if you change network??!! Also talk of UK cross network roaming in the future.
lidds to brooky_agn

No point, as far as I'm aware the international version doesn't have any additional bands. The phones unlocked anyway so won't make a blind but of difference to network access if you are on holiday.
Only difference will be the ROM itself . In which case I would always advise flashing a clean ROM anyway

Be aware import and duties would be very expensive if you get hit with them.
I've always used the cheap, slower delivery options and never had a problem over the years. Anecdotally, paying for faster delivery method means you're far more likely to get stung.
Thanks - stuck between the Max and the Mi5 - Whats the difference between the normal ones and the international edition?
dt_matthews
9 Nov 16#10
International version has google play store installed and should also be free of chinese bloat/spy-ware.
On some phones they also mean additional bands (e.g. Band 20 on 4g so O2 compatible) - I dont know if thats the case on the MI5.
There could possibly be a cheaper deal for mi5 on 11/11 [some national singles holiday in China at that day] at the likes of aliexpress etc. So may be worthwhile waiting a few days before buying

About specifically wanting the black version, I see where you're coming from & this video review (though in Chinese) will alert other buyers about the 'black border' issue (which I'm assuming puts you off) - this can be seen from 1:10 - 1:30:
Don't know about being deceitful, but definitely spoils the look.

I've heard people being charged £30 on a £100 handset.
From looking online it says just 20% VAT plus a handling fee to DHL/Royal Mail.
This phone would be around £50 I'd guess depending on which courier is used. Royal Mail is cheaper at £8.

The Mi5 has a Snapdragon 820 processor - same as most of the flagship phones, so is in a completely different performance class to the Mi Max.
That said, I don't believe that you can actually get a Mi5 with support for LTE band 20 so you'll be out of luck if you are hoping to use 4G on O2. Also, don't try and bend it - the chassis fails catastrophically with too much twisting unlike most phones which will flex a bit. Shouldn't be an issue as long as you're not putting it in the pocket of your skinny jeans...
Otherwise, an excellent value phone. Go to notebookcheck for a really in-depth review.
The Zuk Z2 is probably a better phone overall (with 4GB/64GB) which can be found cheaper, but the Mi5 has a better camera. Also ROM support for the Z2 isn't as good.
happenstance to Throbbo
12 Nov 16#38
Do yu mean the max doesn't bend well? I've heard of that but the mi5 generally people say it is solid, unlike the max.

100% incorrect, this will NOT work on o2 4g. It only has full 4g compatibility with EE and their partner networks.

Yep that's what all the reviews say.
The s7 kills it in low light levels, but in day light there really isn't much in it.

kashhassan94
13 Nov 16#42
You are right. I'm sure I saw somewhere where it said it was but I guess I was wrong, thanks for correction!
The Le Max 2 is the little better specced of the two for a lower price, but physically larger + heavier & most likely with inferior battery life compared to the Mi5.
...can someone confirm the Mi5 works with 3g/4g o2...im rather confused by the bandwith stuff?
MrAndMrsA
17 Nov 161#48
Very confused myself. Went on this site to check like someone suggested, and it seems to say it'll definitely work on 3g and "may work" on 1800mhz 4g. Take from that what you will

Im lost with this bandwith stuff - can someone categorically state that this phone will work with 02 3 AND 4g... Ive had differing opinions and dont understand the tech stuff ...
dreadzone101
18 Nov 16#55
3G will definitely work. 4G most likely won't but there's a small chance it might. 800mhz 4G is used by O2, which isn't covered by this phone. Most places will say it's O2's only 4G frequency, which would mean it won't work at all. However they apparently started rolling out 1800mhz 4G but it's very few areas with no clear way of determining which. Differing opinion is due to this being the case. For people in the few areas covered by 1800mhz frequency, 4G will work. For others, it won't.
Pixl8
18 Nov 16#56
Thanks very much indeed...So is there any way i can check if im in a 1800 area?
dreadzone101
18 Nov 16#57
I don't think so, hence why had said "no clear way of determining which". Apparently they begun rolling it out to boost the speed for urban areas. '4G+' as people call it. Article from summer 2015 says "O2 will start rolling out the 1800MHz band in London before expanding to other cities later this year". There has been very little info since then, but it has appears in a few other places.

There is an app on the play store that tells you which band you are using. Maybe you could use that to find the band your phone uses for 4G. Not sure what it's called though.
