I think you and the minority that also think that are wrong. Great game for the price. Metacritic gives it 7.2 from user reviews which is pretty high for internet scores.

This game went under most people's radar, worth £7.99 of anybody's money. Don't play it when the kids are around though. I dropped my ass on the first level :stuck_out_tongue:

did you actually play the game from start to finish?

Not at all. It's the first game that I've actually finished then immediately started and played through again. Each to their own though and I can see why some people may not enjoy it.

Personally completed the game 4 times and clocked over 100 hours going for all the achievements, I loved it. It's the spiritual successor to Resident Evil 4 and contains all the same pros and cons as a result.

Having played through both the main game and the DLC chapters with Kidman I'd say its a really solid title. You can tell that Shinji Mikami and his team were allowed creative freedom with some of the f***** up creatures and environments you are thrown up against in the game.
Although I don't mind the borders too much there is an option to turn them off in the settings with one of the recent updates for the game. Therefore the potential major niggle has been eliminated.
Give it a go and at £7.99 its not burning a hole in the wallet.

Bought it last xmas for £9.99 from Game. I'm determined to finish it, but other games keep getting in the way. Its been so long now though that I have no clue where I am and will probably have to start over.

Yeah. Shinji Mikami. The grandad of Resi. He hasn't touched the series since Resi 4 which is most likely why 5 and 6 were gash. I have high hopes for 7 though!

Now that I'm classed as a geriatric gamer (mid forties). I can say that of the games on my shelf of shame, I did actually finish this, even though some of the levels were damn infuriating lol.

He and people who share his dislike for the game are wrong because you like it? Really? How does that work? Are you going to teach him how to have the same opinion as you?
I think the game is average, I might just be 'wrong' though. I'd better ask some other people what my opinion should be.

There's a difference between not liking something and it being bad. Not liking something is an opinion (we're all entitled to them; there is no right or wrong), while suggesting that something is objectively bad would imply its quality is somehow measurable. The closest we can get to that is an aggregator like Metacritic, where the game ranks quite highly. So yes, it's right to say that this guy's in the minority and dismiss his claim that the game is simply "really bad".

19 Nov 16#37
But as far as he's concerned the game is bad and he's entitled to say so. The majority of people liking it doesn't make it any less bad to him. I thought Dying Light was a really bad game. Most people really liked it. To me it had endless design faults and was just plain boring and yes to me boring is REALLY BAD.
Evil Within I don't think is bad but I don't like the level design, the way the levels are structured to lead you to certain actions, the graphics were really dated and the controls were antiquated but I still got something out of it. I can absolutely see why some people would write it off as plain bad.
You can point at Metacritic and say he's in the minority and disagree with him but you flat out can't say he is wrong and dismiss his claim because of how many other people rated it highly. You're basically telling him look how many people like it you can't say it's bad take that back. It's quite ridiculous.

He's perfectly entitled to say why he thinks it's a bad game; I wouldn't have a problem with that. But to simply dismiss it as a "really bad game" - categorically being the only inference I can make from such a sweeping statement - without offering anything further?
Just to be clear: he didn't say he didn't like it; he said it was "really bad". The Evil Within is not, objectively speaking (as much as we can about videogame quality), a "really bad game".
And if he had simply come on and said, "I didn't enjoy this," it wouldn't have invoked the same reaction. No one would start quoting Metacritic scores to try and convince him otherwise; they were only wheeled out because he suggested the game was simply "really bad". End of story.
Likewise, if I don't like a TV show or a painting or a book, that doesn't make it "really bad".
Really bad? Really bad.

I read a lot of negativity about this on certain forums, and I genuinely don't get it. I lose patience with games easily but played this all the way through including its DLC - it's that good. It's a rather long campaign, some of the set pieces are incredible, the combat and stealth works terrifically well and it's extraordinary messed up and creepy at times - pretty much everything I like in a game.
Anyway, my two cents worth. I'd say it's a bargain.
