You need an old (fat) Xbox One serial number to get the free adapter, otherwise it will cost. Pop into your local supermarket and see if you can take a pic of a display models serial

Depends how high you place it and how big your room is
The next version of console, Xbox S, doesn't even have kinect port. To me - this is a shame, because I see how much enjoyment it brings, especially to little ones (not the fitness app, but Dance Something)

Just out of interest, how many games actually supported the Kinect on the xbox one and are there any backward compatible games for it from the 360????

Off the top of my head, Kinect Sport Rivals, Dance Central and Skype.

There's a fair number of your typical sports/dance games like you would get on the Wii, though inevitably the hardware here is much more advanced. The only game I have is FRU which I highly recommend!
As far as I know 360 kinect games aren't compatible.
Not true. FRU is great, and I'm sure the dance games are good for kids or parties.
Depends what you're likely to use it for. Here's what I find most useful, in descending order of usefulness:
. Voice commands to turn the console on/off, switch apps, pause/play TV and Netflix (incredibly convenient)
. IR receiver/blaster, allows you to control your TV and Sky box using voice, Xbox remote or controller (this is built into the newer One S)
. Playing games
. Video calling on Skype
You can turn off Cortana and just use "Xbox". Although I believe the latest update has fixed Cortana so it won't go to the internet for your local commands. "Xbox" is quicker to say so I'm sticking with that anyway.

there are a fair few but nothing that's any good tbh. if you search 'kinect' thru xb itself on the store it'll show a list. no there's no 360 games compatible with it though

Yeah if u can give a serial number from your old xbox and one from an Xbox S (not sure about pc?) then they will send u òne for free
johnwillowlfc
18 Nov 16#13
Thats correct, you need serial number for original xbox, xbox one s and kinect, I can confirm this as I got one for free, but only free if you own both consoles and have them registered to your account on xbox.com

I use it to sign in to my console, navigating to games/apps, controlling playing media and recording snapshots of gameplay.
Typically when I turn on my console, I'll use my voice to sign in and then go to Battlefield 4 whilst I'm walking towards the drawer that I store my controller in. So once Battlefield 4 has loaded I have controller in hand and turned on.
When I'm watching All4 or something from my HDD, I'll use my voice to navigate the menus and then use the play and pause commands so I don't even need to turn the controller on!
I really can't understand why MS ever thought people wanted more games using motion controls when launching the Xbox One when people hated them in the previous gen. The only saving grace might be the voice controls....if they work.

Bought one for £22 just a week ago. Ah well!
I bought it primarily for just dance when we have kids parties. Been using it on the ps4 but tbh smartphone as motion controller seems reliable for some phones but not others (iPhones are esp unreliable for some reason, another reason to only go android) & things like message notifications stop it connecting often too.
Being able to just let people play without faffing is ace.
I'm a sucker for wii tennis too, loved it, so hoping sports rivals tennis is a good successor.
Then there's dance central for my little girl. She LOVES practice dance moves & just dance isn't great for that.

Have Microsoft definitely dropped all support on this?
nige182 to Zuulan
18 Nov 162#24
Given that they took the port out of the Xbox One S, I think we can safely say they are not pushing it or investing substantially in it any more, we may as well say they have dropped support. I would guess if it hasn't already, it will also be going out of production shortly, but there is probably still plenty of new stock somewhere so prices are unlikely to suddenly go up any time soon, but they could still go up a bit to £25-£30 easily.

Anyone know where to get cheap adapters for these? I don't have the old XB1 and would likely need to buy the adapter. Last I checked, they were £30+ which is pants!
The concept is really good, being able to instruct teams and interact in games without the pad etc. This is why MS bundled the Kinect at first, to try to make it integral to the system and let devs use it.... it failed.

I have kinect but its unplugged.. Its real purpose is to identify and monitor people... When i plug in a mic into the controller cortana pops up and im not interested in talking to it. When i turn controller off and plug in headset i can hear it power up. I am sure it does this as i do this with battery removed it makes no noise...

Does Kinect allow 2 brother playing split screen minecraft online with friends to BOTH hear and speak with the online friends through the Kinect sensor bar? At present, they are logged in with one Xbox live account and as a guest, only one of them can hear and contribute through a headset, the other is cut out of the conversation :-(
