ASDA finally playing catch up and reducing the price. Good if you don't need a bundle and want an Xbox for a pretty cheap price. Also great for colleagues with double discount!
Should be national as price change came down from head office.

Xbox one and xbox one s are there main variants. Xbox one will play all the same games as xbox except it can't output at 4k. If you've got a 4k TV and some 4k material that you can watch then the XBox one s would be the better choice. It can upscale games to 4k also which the older xbox one cannot do.
That's the main difference, the one s is a very cheap UHD Blu-ray player essentially with gaming capability to boot. It's also significantly smaller, like 40% smaller but looks tiny compared to the old console!
The old xbox comes in 500gb, and 1tb variants but if you need more storage you can just attach a portable hard drive.
There is also the elite which is the old model, it has a 1tb hybrid drive which gives a mild speed improvement with booting times.

It wouldn't surprise me if a retailer went really low just to raise the headcount in the store...and hope they sell a more expensive package when stock is depleted. But at a £100...nah, £150 is the lowest it will ever go with some awful game.

A bit expensive then. Add a decent game for circa £42 and you are then close to the new console model bundles. Good del for Asda staff if they can get it on diiscount.

Add gears of war for £29.99 and you're at £179.
Chanchi posted a deal for 4 games for £179 this week so if you were planning on getting any games with this console it would work out cheaper doing the bundle. Even if you plan on selling the games!

I suspect that we are moving to an era with new consoles coming out every year from MS and Sony.
They are looking to milk people with minor incremental upgrades every year IMPO - marketed as if they are must have features. Some will figure this is about to happen. Others will never figure it out.
mudstuff
15 Nov 161#12
Every year? It's been nearly 3 years for the One S and PS4 Pro and they are both playing all the same games so there's no NEED to upgrade, only want. Scorpio will also be backwards compatible (and Sony would be stupid not to follow suit with the PS5). Every year

Which model is the slim version? And is there a PS5 available? Also looking for which to buy for my 7 year old (wants for minecraft to play with his friends but believe this won't be available until mid 2017?(across platforms??) Which is the best and why? (bear in mind for a 7yr old to last a few years hopefully). Thanks in advance for your help.

The Xbox one S (Slim) is the newer model. Both the Xbox One, Xbox One S (and the future Xbox Scorpio) will all play the same Xbox One games.
There is no PS5 yet. The current Sony console is the PS4, which also has a newer Slim version and PS4 Pro version, which again play all the same PS4 games (the differences are mainly in console size and resolution).
If your kid doesn't play on a 4K TV and you don't mind the larger model, go for the original Xbox One or PS4.
Minecraft Realms is apparently going to be cross-platform from what I've heard.
There are some differences between the two platforms, but nothing major (PS4 has the PS Virtual Reality headset, and Microsoft are expected to have an equivalent for when they release the Scorpio).

The current Xbox one S comes with blue ray uhd player built in and can play all 4k movie apps like Netflix 4k with hdmi 2.0, hevc and Hdr. Why would want to waste money buying this old model which is old obsolete stock they are trying hard to get rid of by giving discount . You are getting a free uhd blue ray player and the difference is only £50 which is compatible with existing games.

just wondering about S or plain XBOX One. Know size and power difference but is there a difference on menu screens etc. I dont have a 4K T.V maybe in future but not sure. XBox one prices seem to be crashing so am I not being sensible wanting the XBOX one S over XBOX one or........
