Tough question as they both have benefits. If you are on a 1080P TV and plan to be keeping it for the foreseeable future I think the elite might just have it when you consider the current pricing, excellent controller and 1TB SSHD.
As I have a 4K TV I went for the One S and would say it's definitely a better fit for a 4K set, I don't regret getting it one bit, though I am still kind of tempted to buy one of these packs just for that elite controller though I think I'll wait and see if black friday brings any even better deals as I really don't have any issue with the standard Xbox One pads, in fact I find them very comfortable and I think I'd find the paddles a pain to use so I'm undecided...

9 Nov 16#31
The only way to get true native 4K is from UHD Blurays or by watching 4K material on Netflix, Youtube and Amazon Video (though I'm not 100% sure if they have updated Amazon Video for 4K yet).
Games will be upscaled, which will not look as good as native 4K, but are said to look anywhere from a tiny bit to significantly better depending how good or bad the scaler in your TV is. I only have a very cheap 4K set (Digihome), which one would expect to have a pretty lousy scaler in it, though to be honest I don't find that games look massively better upscaled on the Xbox One S. I think there is perhaps a modest improvement, perhaps a little tiny bit less alisasing on sharp lines, if you really, really look for it.
Quite a cool feature is that the Xbox One S will also upscale anything you connect to the HDMI input. I have been trying it on a standard PS4 after seeing someone called MrUpscaler on Youtube raving about it. Again any improvement I find to be very slight IME but some people might notice it more than others….

Anyone want an Argos click and collect code for an Elite console £199 (but no extra game) from Middlebrook Bolton? expires the end of today.
Decided against swapping my 6 month old Xbox One, after selling the console and controller to CEX I'd still be parting with £100 for an Elite controller and extra 500gb disk space (I know its a hybridSSD but not really bothered) but losing a controller in the sale so don't really think its worth it as an impulse buy. Going to spend the money on an external USB drive instead for my existing One.

Just got one of these ordered. My thinking is sell the pad (bought one on the BF1 deal 2 weeks ago) for around £90. Just provisionally sold my day one xbox one for £120. The division is going to my nephew for xmas, and the £10 voucher has bought one of the kids xmas presents. I thought the S handled the upscaling, therefore pumping 4k def (granted from a 1080 source) down the HDMI cable to the TV, therefore the TV scaler doesn't come in to it. The standard xbox and elite will just send 1080 down the cable, which will need to be dealt with by the built in scaler and will therefore greatly in quality.
I could be completely wrong, thats just what I was lead to believe.
FREEZIN WOLF
10 Nov 16#77
Is the controller range on the S that much better than the Elite?

ST3123
10 Nov 16#78
Perhaps i could have been clearer. You are right, using the xbox one s everything fed to the tv will be 4k regardless of source resolution. I meant the level of improvement you can see from the one s over a standard xbox one or other 1080p source like ps4 will depend on how well your tv upscaled your standard xbox one, hence how well your tv scaler upscaled your xbox one will determine how much improvement you see from the one s.

Stelph
11 Nov 161#81
The Xbox one S has slightly better specs but its only slighlty faster than the standard xbox, on the other hand remember that the Elite actually has a hybrid SSD/HDD drive where as the Xbox S has a standard SATA III drive so the elite is a lot faster at booting/loading games etc
If you don't have a 4K telly I would say the elite is the best of the bunch to be honest due to the hybrid drive making it run that bit faster

I'm afraid, the Xbox One S is still using a Sata 2 interface, not 3. The drive is a Sata 3, but the motherboard is still 2. Go figure. Also, apart from boot-up times, games rarely load much faster than the non-SSHD equivalent. That's probably due to the system using the 8GB SSD part for itself.

Interesting - the review eurogamer did with external drives showed that even with the small SSD in the hybrid it was still faster than a standard HDD in loading games and nearly as fast as a full SSD - certainly not worth paying for a similar size SSD - I had assumed the internal hybrid would have similar results
got my one, but its making a small clicking noise, which is annoying, also I had to take the extra buttons off the controller,
still its a new 1T Xbox with a very nice controller.
MysticalUndies
14 Nov 16#104
That is a really poor SSD drive used for comparison. Incredibly slow, in fact most reviews state it's the slowest modern TLC based SSD available. No wonder the sshd could almost perform the same. A decent SSD is actually a big improvement over a standard and hybrid drive and there are many reviews to prove so.

Solution 5: Remove objects that are between the wireless controller and the console
The wireless controller works within 19 feet (6 m) of your console. However, objects placed between the wireless controller and the console might reduce this range. In addition, objects that use wireless technology (for example, cell phones) can interfere with your wireless controller. Remove or relocate the following objects or wireless devices that might interfere with the wireless controller or console:
